Computer Information Paper

...Computer Information Paper Computer information can be input in several different manners. Data may be input through a keyboard which is a device that allows the user to type the information directly into the computer. The keyboard is the most common and most utilized input device. An example of when the keyboard would be the best input device is printed questionnaires. Answering a questionnaire or conducting a telephone survey could be accomplished quickly and easily by simply typing the necessary information into the computer. Bank Checks are best entered by utilizing scanning technology similar to barcode scanners which are used on retail tags. A scanner reads the bar code and enters the information which the bar code represents. This method eliminates human error and insures the information is entered correctly. If it is necessary to input a long document, an optical scanner is the best choice. The optical scanner scans the entire document, page by page, and sends the document to a file folder for storage on a computer or storage device or to a printer if a printed copy is necessary. This method is fast so it only takes a few seconds to scan a long document into a computer file. Convenience and ease of use is important in for output devices. Hand held computers output information through visual output to video monitor or screen. Photographs are best input utilizing files such as JPEG and a scanner. Resumes and memorandums may best be output to a printer of......

...Computer Information Paper Accuracy of data input is important. What method of data input would be best for each of the following situations and explain why: •Printed Questionnaires – The mode of data input will be decided on the basis of model of printed questionnaire. If the questionnaire consists of multiple choices, optical scanner is the best choice. The keyboard typing or uploading the scanned version of written paper is suitable for theoretical a paper which requires description about the topic. •Telephone survey – Automated computer system to capture the details of survey is best option as it reduces the margin of human error related to typo, grammatical mistake etc. if the instructions are clearly explained to participants. Otherwise, if it is abstruse paper which needs the presence of subject matter expert, human interaction is essential where responses can be recorded into the system. •Bank checks – Automated scanners of bank checks provide the optimal choice of getting the information in efficient manner to reduce the human errors. Still manual check is required to verify the correctness of details whether system has uploaded the exact description mentioned in checks without losing some details due to customer’s error or misinformation. •Retail tags – RFID for International bar code is best method of input in the case of identifying the information embedded in retail tags. Term Paper About Computer History

...History of Computers Computer history can be traced back since the 1880s from the advent typewriting and mechanical counting prototype and also companies such as the National Cash Register which made the atm machines we use today to withdraw cash. John Vincent Atanasoff was a physicist who invented the electronic digital computer. The first electronic digital computer was an idea whose time had come; several groups working more or less independently arrived at almost the same place at the same time. Atanasoff was simply a bit ahead of the pack and for him being ahead had a cost. Atanasoff was required to work alone in a place far removed from the mainstream of computer development. He had trouble finding anyone who recognized the significance of his work. Iowa State supported Atanasoff's work, but none of the university officials fully appreciated what he was up to. Computers have been around since World War II used by the military against the enemy. The Germans used the enigma code machine during the war to secretly send code messages. The enigma code machine was one of their secret weapons they used against the allies. The Enigma offered 150 quintillion possible combinations. Computers have changed since then and now have better versions. Then came the Xerox Parc Alto personal computer developed in 1973, which was a breakthrough then with its built-in mouse and the use of windows. The CHM described it as the Macintosh 10 years before it hit the market. In 1976 apple......

...Asphalt concrete is a composite material commonly used in construction projects such as road surfaces, parking lots, and airports. Asphalt concrete consists of asphalt (used as a binder) mixed with mineral aggregate and then laid down in layers and compacted. Asphalt concrete was refined and enhanced to its current state by Belgian inventor and U.S. immigrant Edward de Smedt.[2] It is increasingly being used as the core of embankment dams.[3] It is commonly called simply asphalt,[4] blacktop, or paving (particularly in North America). The terms "asphalt (or asphaltic) concrete", "bituminous asphalt concrete", and "bituminous mixture" are typically used only in engineering and construction documents and literature. The abbreviation "AC" is sometimes used for "asphalt concrete" but can also denote "asphalt content" or "asphalt cement", referring to the liquid asphalt portion of a bituminous mixture. Asphalt concrete pavements are often called just "asphalt" by laypersons who tend to associate the term "concrete" with Portland cement concrete only. The engineering definition of concrete is any composite material composed of mineral aggregate glued together with a binder, whether that binder is Portland cement, asphalt or even epoxy. A tablet computer may be connected to a keyboard with a wireless link or a USB port. Convertible notebook computers have an integrated keyboard that can be hidden by a swivel joint or slide joint, exposing only the screen for touch operation. Hybrids have a detachable keyboard so that the touch screen can be used as a stand-alone tablet. Booklets include dual-touchscreens, and can be used as a notebook by displaying a virtual keyboard in one of them. An early information tablet concept, named the Dynabook, was described by a Xerox scientist Alan C Kay, in his Aug 1972 paper: A Personal Computer for children of all Ages, the paper proposes a touch screen as a possible alternative means of input for the device. The first commercial portable electronic tablets appeared at the end of the 20th century. Writing Is Hard

...thoughts. I dont know if this happens to lots of people, but this is one problem that I have trouble the most in. Maybe this is why I'm a slow writer and don't like to write. When I write, I'm usually in my house sitting right where my computer is. One thing about me is that I hate writing anything with a pen and a paper. Most of the time when writing an essay, report, or anything else, I type it on my computer. I can probably type 50 times faster than writing by hand. I guess it's just something that I'm better at. I can type about 80-85 words per minute. If that isn't fast, then I dont know what is. When writing, I can write when it's quiet, loud, during the day, during the night, and during whatever atmosphere I'm in. Even if the whole house is quiet, I usually listen to music while typing an essay. However, the best time and the best atmosphere for me to write anything would be during late at night when everything seems pretty quiet around me. Another important thing to me when writing, is that I can not have any distractions near me or around me. Even the internet on my computer has to be disabled or else I would be tempted to surf online. • Writing is like expressing my feelings onto paper. I can write songs, poems, quotes, stories, letters, and just...

Survival Guide

...Survival Guide Let’s Get Started On the first day of classes with Axia College, it is important to login and download the course materials and syllabus. I have found that by making folders under My Documents labeled first with the course name, and then inside have folders labeled each week 1-9 where I save the relevant materials for the weeks work. After downloading the files to the appropriate files, it is best to break up the syllabus. I like to copy and paste each week of the syllabus to a word document filed again under the corresponding week. This makes it easy to access what is needed for the week. It is also important to download the course calendar to keep a closer watch on when assignments are due. By looking at the course calendar at the beginning of each week you will be able to manage your assignments accordingly. After reading through the course syllabus and downloading course materials the next step is to check the main forum. The main forum is where your instructor posts information about what changes may be made for the week and also posts the weekly discussion questions for you to answer. In the main forum only the instructor will post topics. This is the area in which we as students post replies to the teacher and also our classmates. These posts are the only ones that apply to your weekly participation grade. It is very......

Is Google Making Us Stupid?

...In a world filled with so many new technologies that try to make an average humans life easier, there are bound to be downfalls. Nicholas Carr, was a writer who always loved getting caught up in books and researching information. Things have changed though. He has noticed that he loses concentration while reading and finds himself forcing his attention back to the book just after three pages. Carr believes there is one thing to blame, the internet. People are just looking for at most three paragraphs to answer their questions. That’s why the world of web research has taken off. People are now getting lazier and only want their questions answered and that’s it. So what are these positive and negative consequences of exclusive reliance on electronics, specifically the internets information in general. I. Critical Thinking One consequence that we see of digital text rather than printed text is in the way it effects our critical thinking. The ways we use technologies develop habits of mind. Now days we seem to skim to quickly to find the information we need. While before we used to be able to read deep, intellectual books without any problem. While reading the text we multitask while on a screen. We are bombarded by colorful and exciting ads on every website makes it hard to concentrate. Our concentration starts to drift while reading books after two or three pages. “My mind isn’t going—so far as I can tell—but it’s changing. I’m not thinking the way I used to think. I can......
