...Feelings about the concert We have just finished attending our third concert in Fenway Center last Thursday. It’s an amazing concert, and all of us should give a performance in this concert. Since I came to America, I have attended three concerts, and I feel that this is the best concert I have attended. Comparing with those two concerts I have attended before, I have more feelings about this concert; and I want to share my feelings with you. In this concert, each of us gave our performances as a unit of class, and our class was the first performer in this concert. We gave four shows: two chorus and two team-sings. The names of our songs were: “We Are the World”, “We are Young”, “Mama Tried”, and “21 Guns”. “We are the World” and “21 Guns” were song by our whole class, “We are Young” and “Mama Tried” were song by Nigerians. In this concert, we used many things that we learned in the class, such as for the song, “We are the World”, we used “call and response” at the end of the song. Actually, when we were practicing these songs, the effect wasn’t very good; we even couldn’t decide what songs to perform. However, when we sang in the concert, the effect was excellent, everyone sang well, and the react of the audiences was good, too. ...attended the Season Finale of the Faculty Artist Concert Series, held in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center here at the University of Indianapolis. Lasting a little less than two hours, this particular concert took the audience on a tour through the eighteenth to twenty-first centuries of music, featuring artists all the way from the classical era to the modern jazz era. Because of the variety that was showcased in the music, this performance was definitely my favorite of the events I have watched thus far. A very unique part of this concert in particular was its performers. Unlike the other shows I have gone to on campus, this performance consisted of faculty players rather than students, most of which I recognized from simply walking through the halls of Christel DeHaan during my school weeks. ...Last Tuesday I attended the Big Band Concert in the Marshall Arts Center. Both the Weber Music Hall and the Marshal Arts Center have very different atmospheres. Unlike the small band, the big band songs seemed to be a lot shorter and were instructed by a conductor. When I arrived there, I saw that most of the audiences are SJSU students, and a few of them are professors. ...I attended the Rome River Jam with my family while we had some time in the fall. I really enjoyed the whole experience. I was going to see an assortment of people like Tracey Lawrence. My mother thought the whole show was extremely enjoyable, I only thought a couple of bands were great. ...Driving to west from my address to Swallow Hill Music Center for 40 minutes one way at the evening was my first-time experience to the music concert in my life. ...Allec Music 116, Pridmore Concert Report #1 April 03, 2013 Concert Report #1 This past Friday I played in the VVC music concert that consisted of four groups: The VVC college band, the flute choir, the brass choir, and the Symphonic band. I played in two of these groups, which were the brass choir and the symphonic band. The brass choir played three numbers and the last one was the most significant to the crowd. We played the theme song from Looney Tunes, which almost the entire crowd recognized. It was interesting to see the crowd reactions after the piece. Not only was there applause but laughter as well due to the enjoyment of hearing this very old theme song. The VVC Symphonic Band performed last and played six different numbers. We opened with a face pace song known as Magnificent Seven. It was a good opener and a fast tempo to set the mood for the rest of the performance. But out of all the pieces the most interesting and difficult one was Festive Overture that was written by Shostakovich. Festive Overture is a mixture of a fast and slow piece together, and it is one of the most difficult songs we have played. However, the crowd seemed to like this one the most, as it was the fastest paced piece. After the piece was over, the crowd gave a standing ovation to the Shostakovich piece and were applauding wildly. They had very much enjoyed the concert and Festive Overture in particular. ...Concert Report: 1 I attended the College Campus Community Band in the Picotte Recital Hall at the Massery Center for the Arts at the College of Saint Rose on December 7, 2010 at 7:30 P.M. The concert hall was just about filled up with a rather enthusiastic crowd on hand. The audience consisted of older people ranging from the ages of 30 to around 70. Everyone who was in attendance was casually dressed in nicer street clothes. The overall feel was really relaxed and everyone seemed like they were enjoying themselves as the night was beginning. The performers were all dressed in black shirts and pants and were very relaxed despite having a performance. The performers were on stage practicing before the performance began and when they were finished they came down to see everyone in the crowd mostly parents and relatives. The concert hadn’t even began yet but you could tell it was going to be a fun night overall for everyone in attendance. The music I enjoyed the most was a piece by Antonin Dvorak called Largo from the fifth new world symphony. This was a classical piece because it was created around the late 1800’s. I really enjoyed this piece of music because it was one of four movements and it was really relaxing to me. ...Concert Report #2 My second concert I attended was located at the Fowler Center Thursday, November 4, 2010. The Arkansas State University Wind Ensemble played several works, which gave to the title “Folksongs and War Songs”. Timothy Oliver was the main conductor and there was a guest conductor also, Dan Patterson. A classmate and I arrived to the Fowler Center on time and got settled, but neither one of knew what to expect really since we didn’t have a very sturdy musical background. Everyone on stage were playing their instruments all the same time and didn’t sound very graceful, but we came to the conclusion all the performers were practicing before show time. The lights began to dim and show began. The first piece was Divertimento for Band by Vincent Persichetti. It was composed of several different movements including the prologue, song, dance, burlesque, soliloquy, and finally march. The song and dance movements I recognized from class and put two and two together and learned that the soliloquy began the soloist concert. I enjoyed the performance, but was probably not my favorite. Heroes, Lost and Fallen by David R. Gillingham was the second piece and the one I enjoyed the most. ...Brittany Arthur 12/16/2010 MUS 555 Symphonic Lit Concert Report: Arthur Senior Tuba Recital The works on this program fit Goehr's open model more so than the closed model. The program featured works by Beeler, Vaughan Williams, Penderecki, Koetsier, Arban. Three of these pieces were tonal, centered on the keys of F minor, E flat major and B flat major. With the exception of Penderecki, each of these pieces included a solo tuba with accompanying piano. The soloist used a larger orchestral tuba centered on the key of C, and a smaller tuba made for solo and chamber music centered on the key of F. With the exception of the Arban, all of these pieces were originally written in the 20th century for the tuba. The use of these pieces fits the open model because they are modern compositions that do not get heavily played rather than the older classical compositions that are often seen on concert programs. The use of both unaccompanied works and atonal/pantonal works fit the open model as well, since most organizations do not play these types of pieces. The overall structure of the recital itself seemed somewhat relaxed. Everything was played in a specific strict order, but the pieces were not announced and the audience was dressed casually. The audience was also small in number, as if to suggest a small casual event rather than a big performance. The Octatonic Tuba is a four movement work that is based upon an octatonic scale with the bottom and top notes being C. The first...
