POL 51 Congressional Simulation Assignment The government had a long way to develop what we all known as today, which is divided by three branches, the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. The legislative branch is the Congress of the United States, which creates the laws for United States. The Congress was created for two reasons, one of the reason is the bicameral legislative; this was created during the Connecticut Compromise in 1787, where there is two house divided. One of them is the house of the representative, which is based on population on the state that they live in and the house of senate, which there is two senates per state. I represent as a senate from Alaska, her name is Lisa Murkowski. She is a representative of the Republican Party. She have been in congress from the year of 2002 until now, which is a good twelve year in congress, and she is up for reelection in the year 2016. Senator Murkowski is the fifth highest party leadership position, the vice chair of senator of the republican conference. There are many committee memberships that Lisa Murkowski is in; she is a Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Which she protect the natural resource such as forest and promotes energy saving programs. Lisa Murkowski is also a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, also known as the senate financial committee which control the federal money being spends and must be approved by a legislator. Senator Murkowski is also a Ranking Member of Interior-Environment Subcommittee, similar to the senate appropriation committee. She is also a Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee, and Member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, which is a Senator, charged with oversight in matters related to the American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native …show more content…
One of the important things that senator Murkowski said was “The first step in any meaningful relationship – political, cultural, professional or otherwise – is communication.” And I agree with this because her decisions in the senator’s house have direct or indirect impact on the Alaska Native people. In Alaska, one of the major problems is domestic violence, Alaska is one of the top five in domestic violence, and the senator of Alaska is trying to decrease the rate of domestic violence. The rate of violence is high, for example more than 3 out of every 4 American Indian and Alaska Native women will be physically assaulted in her lifetime. This is the bill I will propose, this is called the ADVA, the Anti-Domestic Violence Act. One of the reasons why domestic violence is high because there is no enforcement against this, the village is too far away from a city to make a case. This act is creating a building near the villagers and be able to assist the victims before the violence gets out of hand and hopefully before the violence starts.
