How to Teach Children to Conserve Energy

...How to Teach Children to Conserve Energy It is important that we teach our children ways to practice energy conservation. Instructions 1 Explain to your children just how important conserving energy is. They may have heard you talk about it or mention it, but do they really understand what it means. Try giving them examples of why it is so important. There are many books that can help you explain the importance of energy conversation to your child and also give some tips on how to do it. 2 Make sure you practice what you preach. If you aren't being a good example, then your children will have no one to follow. Don't just tell them to turn off the lights when they leave the room, show them by always turning off the lights yourself. 3 Rent or find a video online about energy conversation techniques. Fun cartoon characters like the electricity lightening bug can help make learning fun and also make children take an active part in what they see. 4 If your children are older and they are not very good at conserving energy, try a one month energy experiment. While you may have to demand or bribe your children to participate, it will be well worth the effort. Show your children an electric bill and how many watts of energy your family uses in a month. Then go over ways to cut down your energy costs. For one month, make it a conscious effort to make sure that everyone does things like turning off lights when leaving a room, doesn't leave the television on constantly...

What Does Conservatism Seek to Conserve and Why?

...What does Conservatism seek to conserve and why? The nature of Conservatism as an ideology is most clearly illuminated when one examines its origins. Conservatism was galvanised as a movement as a result of its rejection of the liberal ideas of the enlightenment on the basis of a negative view of human nature Conservatism at least in terms of its roots is thus, fundamentally reactive – indeed this can even be seen in the title of Burke’s work – Reflections on the Revolution in France This reactive nature can be seen to be reflected in Conservatism’s Summum Bonum – it is pragmatic as opposed to ideological – the preservation of order. As a movement it thus seeks to conserve the societal status quo in the face of changes or the threat of changes – thus it is evident that what conservatives wish to conserve is in fact dictated by the nature of society at the time as opposed to ideological attachments to certain elements within society… However, in the fact that Conservatives view their efforts to conserve as a means to the pragmatic end of social order – the ideas and institutions that Conservatives attempt to safeguard can be grouped together regardless of their contrasting context within societies, due to their shared end This conservation of similar elements within different societies can be seen in the case of moral values – a concept that has been defended by both Traditional and New Right Conservatives… For Early Conservative’s the issue of morality was one principally...

Critically Review the Contention That the Science of Ecosystem Service Has Transformed the Way Which We Value Nature and Conserve It.

...1 Critically Review the Contention that the Science of Ecosystem Service Has Transformed the Way which we Value Nature and Conserve It. The way we value and conserve nature has dramatically changed over the course of time and the concept of preserving the natural environment which surrounds us is and old one while also still a relatively new one. During the time of pre-industrial evolution the benefits that were received by humans from natural ecosystems were often regarded as sacred and were entrenched into the way society lived (Costanza, 1987). After the industrial revolution much of western society adopted the ideology that nature was just something to be enjoyed if you could afford the time and cost to do so, all else was focused on the growth of the economy. Conservation came at a cost and the subject of environment vs economy was often used to describe the argument (Costanza, 2011). Today the science of ecosystem service is being developed, is rapidly becoming more widely accepted and is helping shape the way we think about nature today. With many global initiatives being ran such as the United Nations Environment Program: Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity the science of ecosystem service is rapidly gaining mass media coverage (Sukhdev, P, 2011). This is important because whoever we are and where ever we are our lives are influenced by the ecosystems that surround us. The benefits they provide to humans can be loosely defined as ecosystem services, they can be...

To What Extent the Role of the People's Mediation Committees in China Now Is Still Significant When Some Cities Tend to Modernize and Others Tend to Conserve Traditionalism?

...Introduction It can happen that sometimes you have a personal dispute with a family member, friend or neighbour, or a legal dispute involving business. There are three main ways as alternatives to going to court to resolve a dispute in China: negotiation, mediation and arbitration, they are ADR. ADR means “Alternative Dispute Resolution” and it refers to various processes, commonly used in civil law tradition, which have in common the aim of a better communication between the parties during a dispute and the saving in managerial and legal time, expense and worry (Bevan, 1992). We can clearly distinguish the advantages of the ADR, comparing to the formal dispute settlement at court. ADR processes are quicker, as they can be arranged within days or weeks rather than months or years (example of one case in litigation). They are also less expensive, as earlier settlements save managerial time and they are confidential. They are voluntary, which means that the parties are free to walk out every time without interfering the legal procedures and their rights (Bevan, 1992). Mediation, one of the most used ADR, involves a neutral third party, called a mediator, to help the disputing parties to reach an agreement. Mediation in China has been existed in China for more than 2,000 years. It was used in the Western Zhou Dynasty (1146 BC-771 BC) and then used during the Qin Dynasty (221 BC-207 BC). There was always a preference for mediation throughout all the history of Imperial China...

Biodiversity

...Using Figure 2, explain why a spectrum of strategies is used to help conserve biodiversity Biodiversity is a key resource, which provides a range of valuable goods and critical services to human populations. Biodiversity results from natural physical processes, and as such has distinct geographical patterns. Biodiversity is under threat in several ways; habitat destruction, over-exploitation of natural resources, pollution, introduction of alien species, climate change and increasing demands on nature from rising human populations Sustainable management with use of ecosystem resources is used in-order to help conserve biodiversity because it is trying to allow people to get what they need out of an area but also try and conserve it. A way in which this is usually managed is by zoning, which is where they create and area where humans are not allowed to touch, the area is usually one which has high biodiversity. The reason as to why people tend to damage areas is for agricultural reasons and also logging. This will reduce the threat on habitat destruction and exploitation of natural resources. Protected areas with managed access, e.g. national parks in Kenya is used to help conserve biodiversity because these area tend to be under threat from humans. This is because of the landscape and the wildlife which are in the area and also due to the increasing demand from humans. If the area is protected and managed it means that people are able to still visit the wildlife but in a controllable...

It is every one duty to protect the water because everyone uses this water and we the people are making water polluted. Now we may get the doubt how to conserve the water. A few simple changes in home about the water consumption make a vast contribution to water conservation. The basic changes we have to do is stop leaking of water. We have to see whether there is a leakage in our taps. Because of the water leakage taps we can’t protect the water. We can also protect the water by Installing Low-Flow Showerheads. With these we can protect the water because it flows lower. And we won’t use much water with these Low-Flow Showerheads. When we are brushing our teeth or when we are shaving we have to turn off faucets. After completing the work we have to use the water. By this change also we can preserve the water. ...What is biodiversity? Why does it change? Why is it important to conserve it? INTRODUCTION Presently these days, lots of people live in urban areas. In this case they are separated from the environment. But another important reason why humans will always depend on the environment is because our lives depend on biodiversity. Meaning that we get clothing, medicines, food and furniture from other species. Just because that people rely on biodiversity they have to conserve biodiversity and can save it for future generations (www.scienceclarified.com). But before knowing all the damage this can cause to us, firstly we should know what biodiversity is. Why does it change? Why we have to conserve biodiversity? The aim of this essay is to answer these three questions, so in this paper I will try analyze most important things about biodiversity. MAIN ARGUMENTS The definition of biodiversity has many different connotations, description of species composition interactions between organisms and their environment (Orians, G. H. 1996, p.49). But the major definition of biodiversity is: the variety of life in all its manifestations (Lecture notes). This modern definition can sound like the variety of life on earth, variety of species, and the communities in which they occur. The major elements of diversity are: genetic, taxonomic, and ecological. The first one is Genetic (populations, individuals) – individuals of the same species. How Does Symbolic Skill Impact The Child's Development?

...Children start to develop symbolic skill and thought around the age of two. Positives that result from this significant step include the ability to learn a language (or more than one) and the start of pretend play or make believe. On the other hand, symbolic skill doesn’t do much to help a child get over egocentrism or the frailer to conserve. Egocentrism describes the time when child cannot perceive a perspective other than his own, while failure to conserve is the antithesis of logical thinking. The question here is: how does symbolic thought or symbolic skill lead to these points within the child's development? What is the connection? The key here is understanding what symbolic skill is (which, truthfully, took me some time). Symbolic skill...

From all the reading and my own research, I decided to do my final project on energy conservation because this is something we are dealing with on a daily base and we need to know how to make things better not only for the environment but for ourselves as humans. My plan within this paper is to educate people on ways to conserve energy. Some atmospheric issues when dealing with energy are things like driving, heating and cooling your home, What is Energy Conservation Energy conservation is something very important and the issues we are having with it should not be taking likely. Let us define energy conservation. Energy conservation (According to “Energy Conservation" (n.d.)) “Energy conservation refers to reducing energy through using less of an energy service. Energy conservation differs from efficient energy use, which refers to using less energy for a constant service.” energy needs to be conserve so that we can protect our environment from certain changes, and to save what resources we have now for our upcoming generations. I feel that this is when our renewable sources kick in, like the sun, wind, rain, and tides. These sources will be repeated when needed or required. These are the cleanest sources that are available on this planet right now. Nonliving and Living Factors of energy conservation (According to "Mitigation Strategies and Solutions-Energy...
