Influence of Reference Groups

...STRAYER UNIVERSITY Running Head: Consumer Behavior WEEK 3: ASSESSMENT # 1 Influence of Reference Groups SUBMITTED TO Kelly Bruning BY AMBER MARSHALL MKT 510 Consumer Behavior January 21, 2011 Abstract In each society there is a breakdown of different groups or what today’s youth would call “clicks” each group can be broken down by culture, race, age or geographic location but if you dig deeper you will see that even those groups can be broken down even more. Let’s explore of reference groups and how each reference groups has a major impact on each other, how society views each groups and how the internet may attract certain groups. Different websites attract reference groups depending on what is being offered on that site, throughout the duration of this paper I will breakdown two different websites both different but both geared toward the same type of reference group. Online Community Online community is a community that is able to interact with each other over a vast period of time about a specific topic (Hawkins & Mothersbaugh, 2010 pg 231).Message boards, blogs and discussion groups make the internet a more interesting place for those of us that like to stay in the know of it all. The online Social Network sites make it even easier for people today to stay in touch, reconnect or just know what our favorite celebrities are up to these days. Social networking sites range from many different things like friendship ( facebook and myspace)...

Case 2-1 “Starbucks Keeps It Brewing in Asia”

...Assignment #1: Case 2-1 “Starbucks Keeps it Brewing in Asia” N’kengie Best Dr. Karen Mountain Consumer Behavior-MKT 510 October 16th, 2011 1. Determine and discuss the barriers facing Starbucks as they try to teach people to change their consumption habits from tea and instant coffee. China is well known for its love of tea, therefore, it is amazing how excited Starbucks is about entering the Chinese market. One executive of Starbucks stated “China is clearly a tea-drinking society-unlike Japan, which we think of as a tea-drinking society but they also drink a lot of coffee. In China, that really isn’t true (Hawkins,Del I & Mothersbaugh,David L, 2010).” There is reason for the excitement about adding Starbucks to the Chinese market. China is known for its consumer market with a population of approximately 1.3 billion, rising incomes, and increase in the outlook of global attitudes; many companies are looking to tap into the China gold mine. However, in actuality China’s coffee market is still far behind other countries in regards to coffee consumption. There was a 90 percent growth in coffee sales in China in recent years; however, the per capita consumption is still less than one kilogram per person. In the United States the per capita consumption rate of coffee is four kilograms. Tea is clearly still the number one beverage in China (Hawkins,Del I & Mothersbaugh,David L, 2010). Tea is part of China’s national heritage and is strongly rooted...

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Since words cannot fully describe the atmosphere at Sullivan University, please accept my personal invitation to visit and experience...

...MKT 533 Branding Strategy Cases Dr. Diane Badame Fall 2015 The price of this reader reflects a 20% discount on production costs, due to the early submittal of material by the instructor. Dear Student: Reproduction of copyrighted material, without prior permission of the copyright owner, particularly in an educational setting, is an issue of concern for the academic community. Unfortunately, the impropriety of much unauthorized copying is all too often overlooked by users in an educational setting. Although copying all or part of a work without obtaining permission may appear to be an easy and convenient solution to an immediate problem, such unauthorized copying can frequently violate the rights of the author or publisher of the copyrighted work, and be directly contrary to the academic mission to teach respect for ideas and the intellectual property that expresses those ideas. With that in mind, the University Bookstore has sought permission and paid royalties for all materials enclosed. The price of your reader reflects those necessary costs. Impact of Financial Education on High School

...Institute Presented at the American Economic Association Meetings San Francisco, CA January 4, 2009 The Impact of Financial Education in High School and College On Financial Literacy and Subsequent Financial Decision Making Abstract: Many consumers appear to lack the financial literacy needed to make financial decisions in their self-interest. A growing number of analysts and politicians are blaming the intersection of low levels of financial literacy with complex, financially-engineered products for the current economic meltdown and have proposed a number of solutions to this problem. These solutions range from mandatory education in personal finance to required simplification of financial products and greatly increased regulation. This paper examines evidence on the effectiveness of personal finance education on both financial literacy and financial behavior. If the problem can be solved through education, it is likely to reduce the perceived need to limit choice in the marketplace for retail financial products. If education is shown to be ineffective, the future of financial product innovation and financial engineering may be greatly limited. Supporting the effectiveness of education in promoting self-beneficial financial behavior is a well-known paper by Bernheim, Garrett and Maki (2001) which linked required high school education in personal finance to higher levels of saving, decades later, in middle age. On the other hand, five national surveys of high school seniors...
