V: Results and Discussions: After doing research and sifting through all information pertaining to the goals set forth in this paper, the results and discussions explain fully just how the information was received and used to comply with all the goals and reasons for the research paper. The main goal was to explain fully what activated carbon is and that is charcoal that has been heated or otherwise treated to increase its adsorptive power. In the course text, Controlling Environmental Pollution: An Introduction to the Technologies, History, and Ethics: authors P. Aarne Vesilind and Thomas D. DiStefano describe activated carbon adsorption as a method of BOD removal (2006). The authors also go on to describing the process as an added advantage …show more content…
The carbon is then either cleaned or regenerated and this removal of carbon and addition of new carbon must be continuously done as long as the contaminated water continues to pump through the line. The authors of the book state that the cleaning or regeneration of the carbon is usually done by heating the carbon in the absence of oxygen, driving of the organic matter (2006). There is a slight loss of efficiency when regeneration occurs as the new carbon is added to ensure effective performance, but nonetheless, this process is simple and mostly effective for the catching a filtration of contaminants. When dealing with water treatment, activated carbon is not the only product used in the process. As one could imagine, with any process there are multiple steps and other areas that water travels to before it is deemed safe for consumption, but the focus of this research is to explain the area of the adsorption process when using activated carbon filtration. Activated carbon does have limits to what it can filter out of the contaminated water and those limits are organic and few inorganic micropollutants such as chlorine, fluorine, and radon. For my goals, I used web sources, and company website that were companies that used activated carbon adsorption in their water treatment processes. The supporting evidence is therefore viable and accurate in its use to further help in the development of the research. This paper is informative to its readers and writer alike because of the exemplary explanations given by the references and the class in which this paper was constructed for. All the goals of this paper have been conveyed and accounted for, and therefore are supported by all sources throughout this paper. This project was a beneficial one, because it allowed for a deeper understanding of statistics of where there is contaminated water globally and it informed to an archetypal extent, of processes that can be used and are being used to control and decontaminate waters to make them safe for human

This is due to the fact that there are only a few basic shapes and physical features commonly seen in the prokaryotic world. These schemes are based on creating and matching biochemical profiles of the production of enzymes, acids and gases by isolated pure cultures of a given microorganism.
