September 20, 2014 Isn’t it sad that we have to use technology to communicate with people? Yesterday when I was hanging out with my friend Maddi we sat next to each other texting the whole time instead of actually talking to each other. But I guess that’s just how people talk in today’s society... If you think about it almost every conversation a person has is through the phone or computer. I am pretty sure we spent the whole day on our phones. When we were texting she told me how she has been talking to this guy for a few weeks but they have never actually talked in person. She continued on to tell me that she really liked the guy though. Communication is basically only through technology now. A person can text someone and think that they are the nicest person ever but in reality they could be super rude and this would go unnoticed because nobody has face to face conversations anymore.

September 21, 2014 Today while texting my mom I realized that I have never actually heard her say “I love you” to me. Emotions are vocalized as much anymore since phones and email have come out. Everything that everyone wants to say is always vocalized through text and the emotions lack. You never really know if someone is sad or mad because it’s hard to see these emotions in text. Since emotions are lacking it causes a type of emotional isolation in people and can cause loneliness. For example my mom saying she loves me through the phone only. I am not getting the real emotional effect of it so it doesn’t feel real.

September 22, 2014 I never knew that being lonely and feeling lonely were actually similar things. Whenever I am with my friends I still feel lonely. For example we could be having the best time ever and I will still feel like I have nobody. This kind of resembles the book “Of Mice and Men” I say this because George always felt really lonely even though he constantly had Lennie by his side and he was always in a community. Technology has caused a type of loneliness in a community because nowadays everybody is always on their phone. So when people say they are paying attention the chances that they really are aren’t very high because their phone is in their face.

...Then the Long Walk is retold in a first-person narration that seamlessly includes the voices of a great-grandmother who experienced the exile, an aunt, and the frame speaker, who introduces and concludes the poem. It is a story that has been told many times, one that this family recognizes as an intimate part of their existence: “My aunt always started the story saying, ‘You are here/because of what happened to your great-grandmother long ago’” (8). In words that are at once the great-grandmother’s and the aunt’s, and that become the frame speaker’s as she repeats them to us, we learn of Kit Carson’s campaign (“they killed our sheep right in front of us. . . . It was then I knew our lives were in great danger” [8]), the family’s decision to surrender, and some of the horrors of the journey— the murders of pregnant women, the drownings...

Anthony Russel Research Paper

...This past evening, I was fortunate enough to see a concert unlike any other I have ever attended (granted I have not been to too many concerts and most were bands like 5SOS and the 1975…). Anthony Russel is a California native now traveling the world to perform his special project of combining traditional Yiddish music and old African American folk songs. Although he originally trained as an opera singer, he found his calling to the Jewish faith and began to perform in synagogues. This project of combining two very different styles of music was not a study of the similarities between the two, but rather a method to help him discover himself and his identity. He expressed how much he loves the distinct differences between the two styles of music...

Contemporary Organized Crime Article

...Contemporary Organized Crime Article Names CJA January Instructor Contemporary Organized Crime Article When we think of human trafficking, we often think about third world countries, never here domestically. But the horrific reality is that human trafficking is alive and well in the United States. The article states that there are more people in the world today taken against his or her own will then ever before. 30 million people worldwide are enslaved today, putting it in the top three crimes worldwide next to illegal drugs and arm trafficking, that generates billions of dollars. Criminal organizations have capitalized on the exploitation of women and minors that have infested US soil. They are often sold as laborers or sex objects, referred to as prostitutes. The organizations find it easy to manipulate the minors making it easier when the minor gets order to have them more dependent on their “owner” with increased fear of running away or turning to law enforcement for help. The United States has established a Trafficking Victims Protection Act that deals from children being sold as sex slaves, child soldiers, forced child labor and others. The CNN Freedom Project has being raising awareness of human trafficking. The secretary of State Hillary Clinton even spoke on the issue of slavery. ...Prize in 2001. This installation was a reworking of the renaissance choral music "Spem in Alium" by the English composer Thomas Tallis (1514 - 1585) the 40-part choir was designed to mark the 40th birthday of Queen Elizabeth I. The forty voices are grouped into eight choirs of five voices. Each voice was recorded separately and is played back through 40 separate single loudspeakers. This brilliant sound sculpture was positioned specifically throughout the space. . Janet Cardiff is one of Canada's most important artists. Her sound installations have been shown across Canadian places such as in the NGC’s Rideau Chapel, it’s originally showing at Newcastle and also in a large gymnasium at the Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre and around the world. Janet Cardiff said "Most people experience this piece now in their living rooms in front of only two speakers, even in a live concert the audience is separated from the individual voices. Only the performers are able to hear the person standing next to them singing a different harmony. I wanted to be able to climb inside the music." The work allows the audience to get inside the music and experience it almost tangibly as the voices weave in and out of each other. The visitors could listen to each of the voices one by one walking closer to the individual ‘people’- the speakers or to all of them together from the middle of the room. The 14 minutes piece was said to be very deeply moving to visitors, which earned a popularity that usually isn’t...

The research uses empirical methods in solving hypothetical questions with the use of extensive and relatively unstructured interviews. It examines the interviews of twenty five people independently, these people include: University lecturers, students, administrative and technical staff. ...Lederrick Wesley December 11, 2008 Special Projects Dr. Karin Sehmann The History and Evolution of Gospel Music The culture of African Americans dates back to the beginning of times in Africa. So many things were carried across the world such as culture, art, music, and different cultural practices. The music of African Americans has transcended across different cultures. Gospel music is one of the sacred forms of music for African Americans. This is one of the hottest music genres currently out, and it is not only meant to relay a message to people but change their hearts in the process and help people endure positive out takes on life. Gospel music has a long rich tradition with great contributors such as Thomas Dorsey, Mahalia Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Kirk Franklin. Things such as gospel music workshops and conventions exist today to educate individuals on this peculiar style of music. Recently, I held a gospel music workshop and many things were involved in putting it together. The following paper will discuss my research on the evolution of gospel music and elaborate more on why I decided to do a gospel music workshop. African American gospel music has been implemented with secular and non-African American elements. This has caused many individuals to wonder “what is gospel music?” This musical phenomenon has moved beyond the walls of the “black church” and includes many aspects (Wise 1). Gospel music can be defined from a cultural, spiritual, or...

Minimalist Connotations in 'Fight Club'

...Minimalist contentions: Fight Club Introduction Chuck Palahniuk is one of the most influential American fiction writers who emerged in the 1990s. His debut novel, Fight Club (hereafter: FC) reached cult status after the film adaptation by David Fincher was released in 1999, and widespread and divided critical reception was soon to follow. Much of the current debate about Fight Club focuses on the political implications of the text, but most often recourse to it by way of referencing the film. These arguments usually question or celebrate the transgressive potentials of the book (Giroux; Mendieta), or address issues of masculinity brought into the fore by their literary and cinematic representations emergent in the same decade (Tuss; Friday). However, few, if any, have addressed the literary aspirations of the text and its author. Although none of the approaches to the thematic concerns of Fight Club are unjustified, in the argument that follows I will suggest that conclusions drawn and critical judgments passed have been hasty, and not only failed to take into account the formal aspects of story-telling, but that the narrative features of Palahniuk’s text have largely went unexplored, and constitute a blind spot of the reception. Critics condemning or acclaiming the novel, and, indeed, many a cultic reader of Palahniuk ignored Fight Club as a literary narrative, and have inadvertently been repeating the catchphrases of the text, either reinforcing or trying to undermine what...

The one common objective that exists between the two is to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of the public and their healthcare needs. Through researching both entities, a Professional Nursing Mission Statement outlines the valuable characteristics of both establishments with specific roles that are entailed in each one and how they interpret the meaning of quality of care. A: Functional Differences A regulatory agency such as the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services assists with the regulation and upholding of licensure requirements for delivery of competent care within the nursing profession. Laws that are written and monitored evolve from actions within the legislative and executive branches to safeguard the public (NCSBN, 2015). Regulatory agencies also enforce the state nurse practice act along with overlooking exams that grant licenses and disciplining the license of those that engage in unsafe practice. Nurse education programs require approval from a regulatory agency and need to show that collaboration between students and the facility exist (Nursing World, 2012). A professional nursing organization...
