CORPORATE HAZING
Erik Bekke
Corporations that use backhanded insults to their employees for customers benefit lowers employee morale. Corporations that use media to insult their employees in an attempt to win over their customers is degrading and wrong to the employees that represent the company for many reasons; It causes double-standards within the company, lessens employee morale, and creates a biased and stereotyped point of view from the customers that isn’t accurate or fair to the employees. The corporation I’m mainly talking about is Domino’s Pizza. Their recent ad campaign shows a less than adequate employee talking on the phone and making inexcusable mistakes. The goal is to try to encourage customers to order online; however it shows to be having opposite effects.
Domino’s trains employees to be professional and clear when speaking on the phone with customers, however, the ad shows incompetence with communicating clearly over the telephone and misuse of the phone device by showing the employees inability to put a customer on hold while he looks something up. some employee’s, new, or untrained do behave the way depicted in the media ad, but it is not the majority and it is not how domino’s expects its employees to act on the phone or in person (marketmenot.com, 2014).
Knowing that a corporation thinks little of its employees makes them less likely to show up on time for work or take their job seriously. As a Domino’s employee myself, I am less inclined to show up to work on time after seeing what corporate thinks of their employees than if I had never seen that video before. According to user reviews on the T-mobile website, many customers agree that it would lessen employee morale and it discourages customers from even ordering from dominos. Even though some people state that they do have a hard time on the phone, the domino’s store that I work at
