In my kitchen there is an orange accent wall. My husband and I spent several hours deciding what type of picture to hang on the wall. It had to be something meaningful that also had coordinating colors. We settled on a painting of Bourbon Street. My husband was born and raised in New Orleans and we spent about 9 months there before we got married so it seemed perfect. The painting is in hues of orange and yellow which remind me of the many sunsets we saw when we lived there, and it’s a corner that we spent many an afternoon drinking daiquiris and listening to the different types of street music that is always is abundance there. When I look at this picture I see the first time my husband brought me to New Orleans, 3 months into our relationship. It was a true test considering we drove from Texas to Louisiana, which is an 8 hour drive. We also stayed with his cousin in her home, which is nerve racking in itself, because as I said, we had only been dating for 3 months at this point. Much to our surprise, the drive went so smoothly. We laughed and joked the entire way, we never ran out of things to talk about and more importantly, we never got on each other’s nerves. When we arrived at his cousin’s home, I was greeted with the warmest welcome full of hugs and kisses; did I mention we had never met? For a first family introduction, it could not have gone any better. My husband spent the entire weekend showing me where he grew up, went to school, lost his childhood home to Katrina, and spent his youth getting into trouble. We spent our mornings at Café Du Monde drinking coffee and eating beignets and walking around the open air market down by the river. Every time I look at this picture, I can smell the coffee, I can hear the stories again, I can feel the sun on my face, and I feel the very moment I fell in love with my husband. The picture also reminds me of that moment just before sunset because of the colors that were used. Evenings and especially sunsets are so lovely down in the French Quarter. The Mississippi River runs right by the Quarter and there is an aquarium, benches, musicians, and restaurants lining it. This photo reminds me of the quiet roar of the city that happens just around this time. There is an energy that seems to flow throughout the entire city, but for me, the evenings are best. Restaurants start to dim the lighting making it more romantic, the lights of the city begin to twinkle creating a warm and romantic ambiance that completely engulfs all that are lucky enough to witness it. The city was built on romance in my opinion because everything about it, from the food to the music, has a sexy vibe to it. I think that was probably the whole point of the painting. I think that the artist must have been a native of the city because they completely capture the essence of the city in such a simple painting of a street corner. It’s simply a corner with a street light and the awning of a club in the distance. Who knew something so basic could bring up so much emotion, but I also think that was the goal of the piece. Sometimes I think that maybe the artist was leaving the bar that is in the picture one night and happened to look around and caught this moment and was just so inspired that they had to commit it to canvas. I also think that the artist could have easily been a musician as well. This vision is the stuff that songs are based on. A night like this one could have been the setting of a great first date or a proposal. A setting like this could have been the making of the moment when someone fell in love or expressed it for the first time. You can almost hear the soft jazzy melody playing on a saxophone. Which brings to life another vision when looking at this picture. A single sax player under the street lamp playing a love song for a lost love or for an unrequited love. The best thing about this picture for me is the memories. I am reminded of the fact that I loved a man so much to leave my life in Texas and everything I had created here, on a leap of faith. I trusted him and believed in him enough to go with him so that he could fulfil a dream that he had. Unfortunately things in Louisiana did not work out as we had planned and we ended up moving back to Texas just 9 months later. But for me, being the alpha-female and type A personality that I am, the act of moving was a huge deal. I left and went to a state away from everything and everyone I knew and tried to make it home. I found a job, though not one that I felt I should have been doing, and I made some great friends there. This painting reminds me of the nights on Lake Pontchartrain with my husband drinking wine and planning our future. It reminds me of my new family and how welcoming and loving hey were to me from the very start. It reminds me of working at the neighborhood gym and meeting the hilarious older clientele that would come in the early mornings, never once actually exercising, just there to drink coffee and shoot the breeze. I called them the Coffee Crew. I am reminded of the staff of the gym who, once they realized I was a definite fish out of water, took me under their wings and introduced me to people my age, took me to dinners, and really worked to make me feel like a part of their team. I am reminded of my husband’s friends, now my friends too, that would call and check in on me whenever my husband was working out of town to make sure I was safe and felt comfortable. Memories both wonderful and sad always flood my mind when I look at this picture and I believe that perhaps subconsciously, that it is the real reason I was drawn to it, besides the perfect color match with my accent kitchen wall.

...Sharon Grisham GE 217 Creative Writing I chose this picture taken by the ASPCA organization because it really captured my heart when I saw it. The target audience is all people who love animals and care about them. The claims in this picture are animals are senselessly hurt. It also shows the depravity in some people’s nature by hurting defenseless animals for no reason other than just for the fun of it. ASPCA is trying to get people’s attention and appeal to their sense of right and wrong and be horrified by this picture. They want you to be upset enough to want to find out more about it and to help stop these acts or at least help the abused animals. The supporting evidence is where the dog had been partially skinned. That is also the part that caught my attention. This graphic picture of this great big place on the dog where .it has no skin is quite compelling. If you have any compassion at all this picture will upset you. Since this is a color picture it is more effective than if it had been in black and white. Black and white doesn’t show the details like color does. Therefore it wouldn’t have had the same reaction of disgust or horror. I am always very upset when I see those pictures on TV about all those poor abused animals, shown by the ASPCA organization. So I went looking on the Internet for pictures like those on TV. This picture is one of those I found. My son and I are both very caring animal lovers. We sometimes are so upset by......

...Creative Writing Unsent Letter from Beatrice to Benedick after Act 1 Scene 1 Benedick, You say that you are loved of all ladies, only me excepted, that’s where you are wrong. You say that you’ll die a bachelor, as if any woman in her right mind will wish to marry you. You delude yourself and your self-importance. You shall die a bachelor simply because no one will accept you; you should feel lucky that I even deem to speak with you. Although I spurn marriage and all it stands for, as you do, I at least have the respect of men, whilst you lack even the appreciation of any woman who possesses even a shred of intelligence, for you only know how to buy and manipulate those into loving you. You state that I’m “Lady Disdain” and that am I yet living, I tell you: the only disdain currently present within the vicinity of Messina is that of all woman towards you, you are just too blind to see the truth. For I live my life as I wish (the only thing of worth that you ever taught me) for which is the only reason I personal can suffer to be in your presence. Beatrice Unsent Letter from Beatrice to Benedick, end of Act 3 Scene 1 Dear Benedick, When I first heard I thought this must be some jade trick, for you it has always been some jade trick. But upon thinking I realised that it couldn’t possibly be that, upon finally realising that it must be true (of that there was no doubt). From the......

What Is Creative Writing

...As for me, creative writing is a piece of art expression, very subjective, which is not dull and normal literature like news article or academic essay. If you ask how to write creatively, I would say inspiration can basis from anywhere, anything and anyone. Yet, it is not purely about thinking ‘outside of the box’ and writing something exciting. Creative writing is a style of writing mostly appears in feature stories, both fiction and non-fiction work. Writers need to generate their expression, maybe a viewpoint, an analysis and a story, from their inner-person meaning by their self of feelings, emotion, thoughts, opinion, imagination and even life experiences. It is a freedom writing, however, all should be a very original composition. Take an instance of our British leading fantasy novelist J.K.Rowling and her creativity of ‘Harry Potter’ series. The character Harry Potter is her sudden inspiration in 1990, when she was on the train to London, suddenly came up an idea to write a story of a little boy gets into a wizard school for study. It looks seems a children’s novel, while behind the wizards and magic adventures, there is deep moral fable, full of struggling between good and evil, life and death, right and wrong, love and hate, and that’s reflects Rowling’s life spiritual pathway and even her ideal of heroic characters. Other than fiction story, creative writing includes variety of its genres. It broadly uses in creative industry in order to express in kinds of......

'Hamlet' Creative Writing

...'Hamlet' Creative Writing I need air. I ran as fast as I could, to the beautiful garden. Nobody knows that I always go to the garden when I need time to think. I guess it’s my hiding place. Everything about this garden calms me, all the pretty flowers, the sound of the trickling streams, and the singing birds. I’ve always believed that the singing birds were trying to tell a story. I tried my best to listen to the birds, to understand them – but I never did. I know that feeling, it’s as if I can relate to it. There are so many things on my mind, so many feelings, so many emotions. When I speak up no one understands what it’s like to be Ophelia. People say I’m going mad, and I’m starting to believe them. It makes me nervous. I need to get away; I need to have some time on my own to just clear my head. It’s hard to feel like this, so alone. I don’t have a mother and my father is gone forever now. And what’s even worse is that the one man I loved dearly is also the man who killed my father. I don’t even know whom to talk too. I can hear the streams, I can smell all my favorite flowers, and it makes me calm. Suddenly, I slipped, but I wasn't scared. I fell into the streams, but I didn’t panic. I was calm. It felt as if the water was hugging me, and slowly dragging me further and further down into the water. And when I closed my eyes, I caught a glimpse of my beloved father. He held out his arm towards me, and I handed mine out after his. ...

Othello Creative Writing Essay

...Paloma Baker World Lit. Period 2 January 31, 2016 Othello Creative Writing Assignment If forced to change the ending of Othello, act 5 would be a happy ending. Initially, I had written a tragic story with most of the main characters dying in the end; however, my producer suggested a more appealing ending where the good characters, like Othello and Desdemona, live happily ever after. Therefore, act five of the play would be changed to a complete different story. In the opening of act 5, Rodrigo and Iago would still attempt to kill Cassio. This part of the play where Rodrigo ends up dying would stay the same because there has to be at least one death in the story. Iago would have still murdered him and wounded Iago in the leg without anyone knowing. Once Othello has heard the cries of Cassio screaming “murder, murder,” he then goes off to find his faithful wife, Desdemona, whom he plans to kill. On his way there Othello bumps into Emilia who sees the “green-eyed monster” with in. She then again tries to tell Othello that Desdemona is faithful and the affair between her and Cassio never existed. Othello finally mentions to Emilia about the handkerchief he say in the hands of Cassio. Emilia, shocked, tells Othello that she stole Desdemona’s beloved handkerchief and gave it to her husband, Iago. Furious and confused, Othello screams loud enough to wake the whole town, and storms into the bedroom where Desdemona sleeps. Othello screaming at Desdemona, acts her about......

Personal Statement - English Literature and Creative Writing

...to study English Literature and Creative writing because I am passionate about and committed to reading and writing. I feel that a structured programme of study is imperative for me to achieve my long-term goal of establishing a successful and varied career as a writer. I know that the path I have chosen will often be difficult to walk but I have already taken a step toward its end by starting an Access course. Throughout my short time on the Access course I have gained confidence in my speaking skills. For example, during a recent discussion on gender and relationships in a graded English discussion I raised a point that the teacher had not thought of and was praised for doing so - this taught me that by pushing myself beyond my comfort zone by sharing my ideas and opinions I will be able to achieve my goals. I know that with the skills taught on the Access course I will be able to achieve my goal of studying and completing a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. The Access course has taught me the importance of self-reflection and criticism through keeping a reflective log which documents my progress, obstacles and goals. I have learnt that I am able to be objective when analysing my own work and performance; this skill has helped me to realise that in order to improve my work I have to be critical of myself and be able to accept criticism from others, I feel that this skill will prepare me for the competitive world of writing. Another skill I have learnt......

Creative Writing Response “Encountering Conflict Changes One’s Values.”

...Creative Writing Response “Encountering conflict changes one’s values.” Friday afternoon, finally. Barely 4pm and she’d already snuggled down into the warmth of her bed, exhausted, miserable. Relieved that she didn’t have to face school again for a couple of days, the stares, the giggles, the shoves in the corridor. The relentless whispering and snide remarks. Pathetic bullies, she thought bitterly. That’s all they are. But despite her brave words, her eyes still smarted and she ached with the knowledge that there was nothing she could do. She hated it, the injustice of the way those girls treated her, treated others too, and she wanted to be brave. But she could never stand up to them. They could exile her completely, spread more rumours about her. What if she ended up with no friends, a social disaster, a freak? Her eyes stung as she struggled within herself. Better to stay quiet. Better to keep her head down, ignore them, wait for it to end. The injustice of the situation bruised her to her core, but she could never face losing the little popularity she had. She sunk down into her pillow and blissful sleep washed over her, easing her aching heart. A playful breeze danced around her and Gran as they walked together down by the pond. Gran was small and impossibly old, but she was sturdy, with a thick French accent and a thousand wrinkles. She was currently recounting her recent trip to the hospital, dismissing her heart palpitations as nothing serious, nothing......

He came to America for better job opportunities. In the interview, we discussed his beliefs, traditions, and mainly his story of how he began a life for his family in America. In Meigs County, Ohio, the produce fields hired Mexican laborers on worker permits. Hector started out working in produce fields then he became the boss about five years ago and received his green card. He moved to America over 10 years ago. Now he is an American and can speak very good English Hector believes in the Christianity faith. He beliefs that all people should be treated the same regardless of race and ethnicity. Hector said he came to realize that America wasn’t a place of equal opportunity. In Mexico, people are more willing to help each other out in difficult situation. Hector went on to explain in Mexico men were paid pretty much the same pay, which was very low. Hector explains that Mexicans will live in packs because it was easier and much affordable, but America was much different people didn’t look out for one another like they do in Mexico. “Americans are very selfish”, said Hector. During the Interview, he explained to me that in Mexico there is no age requirement for males to start working, so there are young boys working at six to ten years old to help support their family He also stated that......

...The Man: Crackling leaves carpeted the forest floor, tall pine trees whistled and swayed as a heavy gust of wind blew through them. She followed the path she had followed so many times before, although this time it would unfortunately be her last. A slow but unnervingly loud crack sounded behind her. Slowly she turned her head. A tall, lanky man stood behind her, his head tilted down slightly as a devilish grin appeared on his grubby unshaven face. His 3 quarter pants were ripped, tattered and caked with mud his black and his white striped t-shirt was not much of a sight either; holes were showing all over, and like his pants an excessive amount of mud was covering them. The girl wondered what he had been doing for his clothes to be in such a state. His black, greasy hair was long and shaggy and looked like it hadn’t been washed or cut in a very long time. The girl felt uneasy being so close to this disturbing man, who she had never seen before. Slowly the man took a few careful steps closer towards her, he was no more than three feet from her now and his menacing grin had become even wider. There was a suspicious glint in his dark eyes that made him look even creepier. As he slowly approached her she began to feel more and more afraid with every slight movement he made. She tried to scream but she was frozen, trapped in a nightmare that yelling could not save her from. She was alone, no one could hear her out in the forest, let alone see her. Her body urged her to move....

...The earthen walls shake. My feathers rattle against the cage as another blast startles me. The inevitable screams follow; the wretched sound of men killing men. All that keeps this pigeon sane in this fetid cesspit of death is the inextinguishable thought of home. Home. A dovecot high above the city, surrounded by the bountiful streets of urban London. A loft, filled with the warm, earthy aroma of oats and the soft, inviting coos of my brethren. A place of safety, comfort and companionship, broken only by the occasional excursion with one of the humans that frequented the loft. We had a unique connection with home. No matter where we were in the world, no matter how far or how foreign the lands were, we could always find our way back. Its call, a physical manifestation of our attachment to the place, was a quality the humans found useful. Every once in a while we were coerced into temporary captivity, taken on a weeklong journey, only to be sent home upon arrival with a missive attached to one leg. But this journey has lasted much longer than a week. I was taken first across the Channel, then to hell. For the past two months I have looked on as humans spit fire and death at one another, listened as the incessant explosions tore limbs from bodies and stained the air with shrieks of pain, and now, finally, watched as the humans who accompany me are gradually whittled down, besieged as I am, by bars and bullets of cold iron and hard steel. But most of all I have endured the......
