A Critique Essay on “The Myth of the Millennials”
The journal The Myth of Millennials written by Edward Koc (March, 2008) do not make the readers clear about the facts of millennial generation because the general analysis made by Koc are based by observing the attitudes and behaviour patterns developed at the time of childhood of this generation. In contrast Elam et al 2007 conducted a survey to understand the generational differences by learning online systems. The results showed that millennial generation believe in group activity are very close to their parents, techno-crate and believes in cool is smart. Whereas the findings of the study shows that Millennial generation are not interested in online courses and are more interested in connecting with people and becoming more social. The Critiques developed after reading this article are that Koc should have provided more real facts and statistics to the readers so that they can easily understand the fact of the article. Koc states that the millennial generation constitutes the new college students, who will play the critical role in shaping the US economy as this generation has a unique set of characteristics required in today’s job market.
The evidences Koc has used to convince the readers about the Myth of Millennials are the surveys and isolated and uncommon cases which have failed in defining the characteristics of these generations. Koc has argued that previous generations were also passionate towards the work and looked for work life balance which the millennial generation also strive for, but he has failed in drawing a line of difference between the two generations. (p.17, 2008)

...ENCOUNTERING SOCIAL CLASS DIFFERENCES AT WORK: HOW “CLASS WORK” PERPETUATES INEQUALITY Using a microsociological lens, we develop a theoretical framework that explains how social class distinctions are sustained within organizations. In particular, we intro- duce the concept of “class work” and explicate the cognitions and practices that members of different classes engage in when they come in contact with each other in cross-class encounters. We also elucidate how class work perpetuates inequality, as well as the consequences of class work on organizations and those at the lower end of the organizational hierarchy. By examining microlevel interactions and how they become institutionalized within organizations as prevailing rules and practices, we contribute to both institutional theory and the sociology of social class differences. We encourage future research on social class and discuss some of the challenges inher- ent in conducting it. Several contemporary developments—includ- ing the financial crisis of 2008 (Rajan, 2010), the shrinking of the middle class (Leicht & Fitzger- ald, 2007), and the rise of the “new poor” in America (Cohen, 2010)— have reinjected the is- sue of social class differences and inequality (Stiglitz, 2012) into contemporary discourse. Hetzel’s he Monetary Policy of the Federal Reserve (Cambridge University Press, 2008), the intellectual consensus that had characterized macroeconomics has disappeared. hat consensus emphasized eicient markets, rational expectations, and the eicacy of the price system in assuring macroeconomic stability. he 2008–2009 recession not only destroyed the professional consensus about the kinds of models required to understand cyclical luctuations but also revived the credit-cycle or asset-bubble explanations of recession that dominated thinking in the nineteenth century and irst half of the twentieth century. hese “market-disorder” views emphasize excessive risk taking in inancial markets and the need for government regulation. he present book argues for the alternative “monetary-disorder” view of recessions. A review of cyclical instability over the last two centuries places the 2008–2009 recession in the monetary-disorder tradition, which focuses on the monetary instability created by central banks rather than on a boom-bust cycle in inancial markets. Robert L.
