PURPOSES

GUIDELINES FOR WRITING A RESEARCH CRITIQUE

This study quantifies and illustrates the discrepancies and inconsistencies in reporting methods and measurement of research use by nurses and in the validation of research use and patient outcomes. The authors highlight the need for standard methods of measuring research use and it’s correlation to patient outcomes, and a clearer understanding of the concept of research utilization in clinical practice. They also note the need of clearer understanding of the concept of research use and the use of a research based practice. Method The authors used a systematic review of published and grey literature, utilizing online......

...Research Critique of Adherence to Walking or Stretching, and Risk of Preeclampsia in Sedentary Pregnant Women Grand Canyon University: NRS-433V 1/12/14 Research Critique of “Adherence to Walking or Stretching, and Risk of Preeclampsia in Sedentary Pregnant Women” Introduction This paper is to critique a study of adherence to walking or stretching during pregnancy in high risk women who were sedentary and had previously experienced preeclampsia. The introduction of this article does give a sense of the importance of the problem area. This four-year study investigates the effects of walking or stretching on the incidence of preeclampsia and reports on adherence to the intervention and on the secondary outcomes of changes in resting heart rate (HR), resting blood pressure and weight gain. Problem Statement The purpose of the study was to compare a walking exercise to a stretching exercise program during pregnancy in high-risk women who were sedentary and had previous history of preeclampsia. The problem was clearly stated and was a feasible researchable problem. The problem had significance for nursing and for the medical profession and might improve practice and education. While the researcher does a good job of stating why the problem is important, it could have been helpful for him to list numbers of people who are affected by preeclampsia and complications of the disease itself. Mindwriter Corporation Critique

...Running head: MINDWRITER CORPORATION CRITIQUE Mindwriter Corporation Critique (Week 3) Norman E. Telles University of Phoenix Business Research Applications MGT480 Dr. Martha Stillman January 04, 2009 Mindwriter Corporation Critique A critique of Mindwriter’s Corporation research proposal will be reviewed for its effectiveness. The research method that was chosen for the proposal and how well it worked will also be discussed. In the preceding paragraphs the proposal will tell what, why, how, where and to whom the research will be done as well as show the benefit of the research itself. Before a research study takes place it is always a good idea to do a development chart which clearly describes how the problem is taken in steps and the research questions and objectives are used to arrive at a proposal to be approved before the study takes place. This will definitely be a useful guide to go by and can always be altered to meet needs. (Cooper & Schindler, 2003, chap. 4) Problem Statement Looking at the statement it says that some customers are unhappy with Mindwriter’s service problems. There is a program called CompleteCare which promises to provide service related issues on portable laptop and notebook computers. Apparently there is a shortage of trained personnel in the call center and Mindwriter wants to find out whether it’s the result of this or its products. Management is requiring information on the effectiveness of this program and whether......

...How to Write a Book Critique PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: The idea behind this assignment is to give you the opportunity to read a detailed historical account on a particular subject and to analyze the book critically. The paper you will be writing should be a book critique, rather than a book report. In a book report, you simply summarize the book. In a book critique, you go much further - you analyze and evaluate the book. WHAT A BOOK CRITIQUE SHOULD INCLUDE: There are many things you should do in a good book critique. How much attention you give to these different components of the critique may vary depending on the book you are analyzing. 1. Summarize the book. Yes, despite what I said above about the difference between a book report and a critique, you nonetheless need to do some summarizing in your critique. You need to describe what the book is about in enough detail that someone who hasn’t read the book has a clear idea of the topic the author is addressing, the parameters of the book, and how the book is organized. If you don’t give your reader some idea what the book is about, then you may lose your reader when you start analyzing the book. Note that a chapter-by-chapter summary of the book is not needed. A general summary of the main points will be sufficient. 2. Identify the author’s purpose. What does your author want to accomplish with this book? What audience is the book intended for? Your author may want to fill a gap in historical......

...issues. This is terribly misguided, and a lot of men experience erectile dysfunction at least once in their life. As researched erectile dysfunction can be caused by other health conditions, medication, or even psychological problems. The purpose of this paper is to critique the research on erectile dysfunction mentioned below. Critique of Research The National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NKUDIC) were the first pieces of literature researched on Erectile Dysfunction (ED). Stating that ED is usually associated with medical conditions physical and or psychological. The report gives information regarding what is ED and how ED occurs and how is it diagnosed, and treated. The information presented was consistent with other research on ED. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined when a man has trouble getting or keeping an erection. This definition is also consistent throughout the research reviewed. ED is said to be more common as men get older. But male sexual dysfunction is not a natural part of aging. This finding was not mentioned in any of the other literature reviewed. Some people have trouble speaking with their doctors about sex. This report did encourage all who had ED to report their symptoms to their doctor because ED can be a sign of health problems. It may mean the blood vessels are clogged. It may mean the nerves are damaged from diabetes. If you don't see your doctor, these problems will go untreated and get worse. The......

Qualitative Nursing Research Critique

...Qualitative Nursing Research Critique Cherie L. Ben Melanie McKnight, Annie Williams NUR 515 Nursing Research August 15, 2015 Professor Susan Steele- Moses Qualitative Nursing Research Critique Qualitative nursing research, has been building momentum in the health care arena for some time now. Qualitative nursing research is valuable to knowledge related to evidenced based practice. For instance, human responses are studied and questions related to potential or actual health problems or diseases are answered. Concepts and Phenomenon are studied and the results are interpretive. Qualitative nursing research is valuable but because outcomes and data aren’t precisely measured, as in quantitative research, critiques are more frequent. “There is a growing body of research to support the view that health care providers are biased in their approach to caring for obese patients” (Creel, 2012). I am providing a qualitative nursing research critique on the article, “Stigmatization of Overweight Patients by Nurses”. Purpose and Problem Identification The focus and purpose of this qualitative nursing research study is to investigate and explore the phenomenon of the stigmatization of overweight patients by their nurses or the nursing staff. The purpose of this qualitative nursing research study is clearly stated in the abstract and under the purpose subheading within the article. The problems that lead to the production of this article was that the increasing......
