Proposition: Driving under the influence is never something you should consider due to the physical dangers and the legal consequences the drunk driver and others along with the driver may face.
INTRO: Imagine being the reason for someone’s death. A brother, a sister, a newlywed couple. How would you feel? Coming from a family in which DUI cases have greatly altered our lives, I myself am a witness to the devastation it brings. According to the article Drinking and Driving from the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence website, An estimated 32% of fatal car crashes involve an intoxicated driver or pedestrian. Although the society and younger generation may disregard this issue, many pedestrians and families have been affected both physically and emotionally. It is also mentioned on the website that the annual cost of alcohol related crashes totals to approximately 59 Billion dollars. Driving under the influence is never something one should consider because of the physical and emotional distress and legal consequences the drunk driver and others may face.
BODY:
There are many affects of drunk driving, but I would like for you all to picture your life without a significant other or loved one. Driving intoxicated does not only put your life at risk but even others lives. When you drink, your judgment and vision gets impaired. Now, if you do it once, and you don’t get caught, your mind automatically starts to be less worried about doing it again and not getting caught. However if you do get caught, you run the risk of causing a fatal accident, ending up in the hospital or even losing a loved one. 1. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, everyday almost 30 people in the United States die of vehicle crashes that involve a drunk driver while hundreds and thousands are injured annually. Also stated on the website, about one in three traffic deaths in the United States involve a driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher. These numbers show that drunk driving is a very common issue that may lead to injuries or in the worst case scenario, even death. 2. Emotional distress from drunk driving can remain with the offender, families and victims for months or maybe even years following an incident that may have lasted only a couple of minutes or seconds. Families of even the offenders are drastically affected.
Along with physical and emotional distress, legal consequences are also a huge factor in drunk driving. Such consequences include, jail time, fines, driver’s license suspension or alternative forms of punishment depending on what state the DUI took place.
Jail Time for a first time DUI can result in 4 days
On a second DUI, the law requires that you go to jail for a minimum of 96 hours.
On a third DUI within 10 years, the law requires that you go jail for a minimum of 120 days.
If you get a fourth DUI within 10 years, you face possiblefelony DUI charges and you can possibly be sentenced to state prison for a minimum of 16 months.

1. Fines also play a big role in legal consequences for drunk driving. from the DUI Driving Laws website, a website that has every states DUI fines, laws, and penalties listed, first time offenders can pay no less than 390 dollars and no more than 1000 dollars. This fine however changes for second, third or fourth time offenders. 2. As a result for drunk driving, your license also gets suspended which may affect school or work. Although you may get a temporary license by confirming with the judge, certain jobs may require you to have a valid license. As stated on the California DMV website First time offenders can expect to have their license suspended for up to 6 months whereas for second time offenders it may be up to a year. At the third offense you will be looking up to 2 years of license suspension and 3 years for the 4th offense.
Along with jail time and fines, as a way to prevent drunk driving from reoccurring, Ignition Interlock Devices may be installed to your vehicle. This device is wired to your vehicle's ignition and requires your breath sample for the engine to start. If the IID detects alcohol on your breath, the engine will not start. As you drive, you are periodically required to provide breath samples to ensure the continued absence of alcohol in your system. The national DMV website states that IID’s have to lead to a 45-90% reduction in the repeat of drunk driving offenses when the device remains installed.

We can all prevent others from drinking and driving but at the end of the day it is up to us to make the right decision. Driving under the influence is not a good idea as it can result in harm to others or even the driver itself. Not only is it harmful physically, but also emotionally as the offender, family and or pedestrians may be affected. I encourage everybody to stop and think before stepping into the driver side of the vehicle while intoxicated. Life is precious and it can be crushed or snatched within seconds.

...Game Journal 6 The school of criticism that made the most sense to me was by far the biographical critique. In my opinion the vast majority of the other critiques read as though the author was simply trying to find examples for that particular type of critique where there was probably very little intentioned meaning behind it. Some of the meaning behind the game that was analyzed seemed as though it was forced. The biographical critique, however, analyzes the author’s intent behind the game using quotes from the author himself. This lends more authority to the critique and prevented it from feeling as though meaningless aspects of the game were being critiqued. In the biographical critique for Katamari Damacy the critic uses the author’s own words to describe how the author intended the game to affect his audience. This is information straight from the source and thus allows for the game to be looked at in a new light. The author intended the game’s peaceful, fun, game that is almost devoid of conflict to brighten the lives of everyone that played it and thus make the world better. The critic in a more thorough analysis could then have described whether the game is successful in doing that, and if so by how much. The biographical critique provided the author’s motivations behind making the game. This is a strong basis on which to critique the game. Analyze the author’s intent behind making the game along with how well the game imparts the author’s message. By doing this...

Models Not Critics

...be wrong but my opinion on “Young people need models not critics” still holds. I do however slightly understand when adults want us to know right from wrong, and know to do the right thing. My problem with this is after or in some occasions before they preach to us about being the best we can be, they demonstrate the total opposite. Being part of the younger generation I’m not sure if I’m speaking for myself when I say we don’t need a how to. What we need are people who understand us and who demonstrate the things that they speak upon, rather than pointing fingers and demonstrating the opposite of which they speak. Adults aren’t perfect but if they’re able to critique the actions of the younger generation, they should be able to perform those same things they advised us to do better. Maybe its even better to not critique us, and once we...

...Critique of Research Article Name Instructor Unit Date Medical articles can be well analyzed based on the content, the reputation of the authors among other useful information. However, it is paramount that evidence based practice (EBP) be adopted when analyzing an article. According to Sackett et al (1996, pg 71-72) “Evidence based medicine is the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients”. The best available and current research is utilized in making a judgment about the article in question (Drisko and Grady2012). The research article, Healthcare Providers’ Intentions to Engage in an Interprofessional Approach to Shared Decision-Making in Home Care Programs: A Mixed Methods Study by Legare et al., presents views of the healthcare providers in the implementation of the interprofessional approach to shared decision-making (IP-SDM). In addition, it evaluates their intention for engaging in the program. The IP-SDM program has been gaining popularity in Canada but it is yet to be incorporated into the healthcare system (Reeves et al., 2008) Interprofessional approach entails the engagement of different professionals within the healthcare system, where all contribute towards the achievement of a common method of patient care. In addition, the aspect of shared decision-making entails the development of a system that involves the patients in determining the type of treatment that is given...

...Mobile health or mHealth is a technology that concerns about health objective. It is a health service delivery in mobile phone. Most people usually have their own phone. They use their phone to play game, send message, call someone or use their phone for their health. This essay is a critique to “Mobile technology is changing healthcare in developing nations” by Puddak Thomas published in Berkeley Science Digest on December 23, 2012. This paper criticize the weakness of the essay, which is the usage of SANA, and the two fallacies, which are appeal to the crowd in paragraph two and non-sequitur in paragraph five.         Firstly, the omission of this article is the writer did not show a method of SANA. It is a tool that uses video, image and text for helping people, and people are able to download it for their health. Sana is a cell phone facilitated clinical information system that connects community health workers and medical specialists (Behar, 2012). Author wants to demonstrate that SANA helps people, but he did not tell the readers how SANA saves people life. One study shows that SANA collects data and interviews the patient through the clinical protocol by healthcare workers. When the data is collected and uploaded, the partner hospital’s doctors will read the information about the patients and make an effective diagnosis recommendation for the patients. ...CRITIQUE The following is a critique of the Joomla! User Manual 1.0. The URL of the page is as follows http://help.joomla.org/images/User_manual/user_manual_v1%200%201_10%2021%2006.pdf. This a critique of the installation portion. It also covers some features of the Joomla! Installer that is based on browser and the Manual Installation. The links for these are http://help.joomla.org/content/view/39/165/ and http://help.joomla.org/content/view/40/132/ respectively. Only recently, I installed the software Joomla!. At first I tried the “easy browser install”. But I couldn’t do it and I failed. I then tried using the manual for instructions to help me to install the software. But, the installation procedure through the user manual took me over 15 hours. I later realized, it was not entirely the mistakes of the install process of the software due to which I consumed so much time, but rather the user manual was fairly out-of-date, deceptive and deficient. Overview: • The first and major fault with the document was that it was a “fair weather friend”. If everything operates smoothly, then you rarely need to consult the installation portion. But if some trouble arises, the user manual is ill-equipped to handle it. A quick scan of the Installation part of this manual gives the idea of many users who are having trouble installing the software because they have broken and incomplete installs. • The attempt of the manual to make itself user friendly is actually a drawback for it. It...

...Below is a free essay on "Website Critique" from Anti Essays, your source for free research papers, essays, and term paper examples. The website I decided to critique is the Wal-mart.com. Wal-Mart was founded in 1962, with the opening of the first Wal-Mart discount store in Rogers, Ark. The company incorporated as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., on Oct. 31, 1969. The company's shares began trading on OTC markets in 1970 and were listed on the New York Stock Exchange two years later. The company grew to 276 stores in 11 states by the end of the decade. In 1983, the company opened its first Sam’s Club membership warehouse and in 1988 opened the first supercenter -- now the company’s dominant format -- featuring a complete grocery in addition to general merchandise. Wal-Mart became an international company in 1991 when it opened its first Sam's Club near Mexico City. The Wal-Mart incorporators then made a website called Walmart.com where they sell products online to people that prefers to shop that way. Walmart.com feature selections of high-quality merchandise like clothing for children, teens, women and men, electronics, jewelry, shoes, household products, and much more. They also sell class rings via internet to those that want to buy it online. They have ways to ship their products but they first have customers choose a payment method. Their first option is by using a credit card. They have their customers put all their information at first and verify if they accept their card or...

The Critique

...Final Paper Today I will discuss my final peer critique of Aaron, as written and evaluated by me,. As I set and prepared for Aaron’s speech, I notice his dress and demeanor. He appeared well to do with his jacket and slacks. As I further examined him I couldn’t help but notice that he was wearing a pair of work boots. I took this as to be the way Aaron is and nothing else. For if you know Aaron, you know he has a casual attitude and always ready with a smile. Before the class started that day we talked about our speeches and if we could convince ourselves of the topics we had decided on. He seemed a little nervous about his topic because he did not fully agree or disagree with the appearance of tattoos. We talked about both pros and cons of this idea but could not agree on one side. He told me that he had chosen the topic and was going to do what he could to convince us, though you could tell he was nervous. As Aaron stepped up to do his speech, that’s when I noticed his nerves set in on him. He didn’t seem as if he could loosen up and I believe the main reason why was because he wasn’t too sure of his topic. I do believe if he was convinced about it himself, he would have delivered a much better speech. His speech was well organized and prepared and followed the main ideas of what a speech should be, yet he was allowing his nerves to make him loose eye contact. As his speech proceeded Aaron settled down enough to allow his words to flow better. Here is where...

...Article Critique: Stress and Coping Responses to Proficiency Testing in School-Age Children Brea Brewer Indiana University Since the inception of the “No Child Left Behind” Act, proficiency testing of school children has increased greatly. This type of testing helps determine educational outcomes in students, evaluate teachers’ performance, as well as rate schools’ performance. Due to an increased pressure to achieve a certain academic level, students often exhibit stress-related biophysical symptoms especially when their coping strategies are inadequate. The article, Stress and Coping Responses to Proficiency Testing in School-Age Children by Theresa Skybo and Jacalyn Buck, assesses 53 forth grade students’ appraisals of their specific proficiency tests and concurrent stressors, as well as their stress symptoms and coping strategies used. Nurses frequently encounter school-age children both in the school setting as well as the clinical setting. Therefore, knowledge obtained from this study, could be used to help nurses educate parents and teachers how to identify students with test anxiety, and how to help them improve their coping strategies. The purpose of this study was very well defined, easily identifiable, and also met. When trying to decide the type of research leveling, I first looked for the type of design. This study falls within the quasi-experimental design description, and more specifically the time-series design. Since this study was conducted...

...Critique writing - The Visitor This essay will provide a critical view of Patricia Cresswell’s “The Visitor”. It will look at the use of language, point of view, use of imagery, characterisation and setting to name but a few. I will provide my opinions on the piece of writing and explain my reasoning behind this. Cresswell’s use of language in The Visitor strongly suggests to me that McGill is isolated and lonely. The use of the word “frosted” when describing the outside of McGill’s home could be seen as a metaphor for his personality. The writer also states that the “frosted grass” could be “anticipating the approach of an intruder”. The word intruder is a strong choice of word, as opposed to guest or visitor, suggesting that the idea of a visitor is baffling. Another example is shown on line four where the text states McGill’s home is “the only sign of civilization for miles around” and “it occurred to him someone might be outside”. This immediately confirms to the reader that McGill has been alone for quite some time and would not usually expect any visitors. I also feel that the writer’s use of the words “ice cold lips” and “cold as marble” when describing the young girl connects her to McGill as this suggests that she may be lonely too. Cresswell is careful when characterising McGill, I believe he is shown to be a simple man with the best intentions but lacking in social skills due to his environment. This is backed up within the text “she was small and frail… he was...

Start with the play: Define the basic theme or idea. (e.g. “This play is about [greed, romance, politics, etc.]) If the play is a well-known classic, what new insight does this production present? If it is a new play, what, if anything makes it unique? 2.
