Assignment: Analyzing Credibility
Lance L Boyd
May 30, 2010

After viewing the “Giuliani Remembers 9/11” news clip I watched two videos from the first link http://www.jnj.com/connect/. The first video was “Taking Skin Care Personally” and the second was “Preparing Nurses for the Future.” Johnson and Johnson own the copy write and sponsored both videos. The video “Taking Skin Care Personally” featured actress Cherie Price explaining how the “Skin Id” system help resolve her acne problem. The skin care video is toward Johnson and Johnson Neutrogena products because it did not reference any other company’s products. Even the title “Taking Skin Care Personally” implies Johnson and Johnson takes skin care personally. The second video “Preparing Nurses for the Future” is promoting a program called “Your Future in Nursing” that prepares new nurses for the workplace reducing the high attrition rates that result from the pressures and responsibilities of being a nurse fresh out of school. The issues associated with starting a new job affects society because there difficulties making this transition for all professions. Therefore, this video relates to society as the whole.

Johnson and Johnson is a very large well respected company. Although the videos were supporting Johnson and Johnson products which could be interpreted as bias, the information is credible base to the companies experience and reputation.

The videos did not make a direct claim but states or implies the Johnson and Johnson company has a personal interest in the well being of the nursing profession and that their skin care products in the best interest of the consumer. The videos give the viewers the impression that Johnson and Johnson places the individuals needs first leaving the viewer comfortable with their products.

Information and Survey Analysis

...1. An IS auditor is reviewing access to an application to determine whether the 10 most recent "new user" forms were correctly authorized. This is an example of: A. variable sampling. B. substantive testing. C. compliance testing. D. stop-or-go sampling. The correct answer is: C. compliance testing. Explanation: Compliance testing determines whether controls are being applied in compliance with policy. This includes tests to determine whether new accounts were appropriately authorized. Variable sampling is used to estimate numerical values, such as dollar values. Substantive testing substantiates the integrity of actual processing, such as balances on financial statements. The development of substantive tests is often dependent on the outcome of compliance tests. If compliance tests indicate that there are adequate internal controls, then substantive tests can be minimized. Stop-or-go sampling allows a test to be stopped as early as possible and is not appropriate for checking whether procedures have been followed. 2. The decisions and actions of an IS auditor are MOST likely to affect which of the following risks? A. Inherent B. Detection C. Control D. Business The correct answer is: B. Detection Explanation: Detection risks are directly affected by the auditor's selection of audit procedures and techniques. Inherent risks usually are not affected by the IS auditor. Control risks are controlled by the actions of the company's management. Business...
