Introduction
Crystal Meadows of Tahoe (CMOT) is a holding company for two different ski resorts. The majority of revenues from this company come from the sale of lift tickets, ski rentals, skiing lessons, and food and beverage sales; revenues are also primarily generated during the winter months. CMOT has recently partnered with Toiyabe Resort Company for the development of a year-round ski resort in the Tahoe area, and have invested $5,300,000 in the venture. CMOT and Toiyabe plan to begin construction of the resort in 1992. CMOT also plans to invest $8,200,000 in their two ski resorts (Lake Ridge and Crystal Meadows) in 1992.

During 1991, CMOT saw very positive increases to net income and shareholder’s equity. This year was exceptional in terms of operations, bringing CMOT the most skier days in the company’s history.
CMOT is planning some significant capital investments in 1992. An analysis of their income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow are helpful in guiding the company’s proposed investments.

What does the analysis of cash flows reveal about CMOT that was not evident from analysis of the income statements and balance sheets?
The income statement for CMOT for 1991 has the company showing a net income of $1,418,000. This figure is $747,000 higher than the previous year at $671,000 and more than doubles CMOT’s net income from 1990 to 1991. CMOT’s balance sheet for 1991 indicates that the company had $7,585,000 in retained earnings, which is $1,306,000 higher than 1990’s $6,279,000. Both provide bottom lines that make the CMOT appear to be profitable and in a growth cycle. ...Analysis Crystal is the main character in my book, she is somewhat shy but when she gets in front of the camera she turns into a different person, she says her modeling career is just something she does to bring extra money into her household but her mother wants her to model so she can relive her childhood dreams through Crystal. Rhombus Is cooling liquid salol a 100% effective way to cause solidification? No, it is not. Procedure: 1) Obtain a slide of solid salol, two magnifying glasses, and a match book. 2) Use a magnifying glass to look at the crystal and describe what you see. 3) Scratch off some of the crystal from the smaller side and save it on your desk. 4) Light a match and heat the bigger crystal side and time how many seconds it takes for the crystal to reach its melting point. 5) Let the melted crystal cool to room temperature and see if it has solidified. 6) Add a small piece of the crystal you previously scratch off onto the desk, and put it into the cooled crystal. 7) After you watch the crystal solidify again, heat the crystal up again. 8) This time, add a piece of lead, paper, or a piece of the match, and see if the solution solidifies. Observation: The crystal is flaky, shiny, and white. It is lumpy in some parts and flat in others. The crystals are in a shape of a rhombus. It took about 7 seconds for the crystal to melt. Equipment: Hot plates, glass plates, beakers, glass rods, scale to weigh out the salt, graduated flask for water, furnace, crucibles, sand, tongs, safety glasses and gloves. Starting materials: Epsom salts, water, 50% Aluminum - 50% Copper alloy (previously alloyed). Safety: Whenever you are dealing with hot liquids, there is the potential for burns and spills. Protect yourself from the possible risks, especially around the hot metal. Make sure you know where any potential spillage will go and place something in the way to protect yourself. In part ‘B’ be especially careful of the hot metal. Remember, it will still be very hot, even when it has changed back into a solid. Procedure: Part A: A supersaturated solution of salt will separate out into crystals on cooling. The size of the crystals is a function of the rate of cooling, the amount of impurities present and the degree of supersaturation (concentration of salt present in the solution). 1. Dissolve 25 grams of Epsom salts in 25 ml of water. Heat the water until all the salt dissolves, but keep the water below the boiling point. I found out that crystals are solids that form by a regular repeated pattern of molecules connecting together. The salt in the kitchen, the snow, and the diamond in a ring are all crystals. The word crystal comes from a Greek word”krysos” which means “ice cold”. It was believed that crystals were a type of ice that was so cold it never melts. Crystals can form in a lot of different shapes. The shapes range from cubes, hexagons, double pyramids to name a few. The shape of the crystal is determined by the chemical components inside the crystal and the chemical bonds between the atoms and molecules. The atoms in smallest building block of a crystal are called a “Unit Cell” The atoms in each unit cell are held together by electrical forces or bonds. When a lot of unit cells are near each other they arrange themselves in different patterns. They attract one another in some directions more than others. This pattern gives the crystal their shape with symmetrical surfaces called facets.
