In the realm of healthcare in the United States, cultural competency has become a major factor in determining the success and effectiveness of healthcare providers. Cultural competency is being able to communicate with various groups of people from different backgrounds, regardless of their ethnicity. Ignorance about differences in culture, that would lead to confusion in the doctor-patient-relationship, shouldn’t exist in the modern United States of America. Referring the on-point analogy Carol Brannon used in her article, the current state of the United States is more similar to a salad bowl than a melting pot.
