"Should Cyberbullying be Punishable By Schools?
Lots of people ask this question but do not pursue an answer. For me I think it's a smart thing to have schools be able to punish this sort of bullying. I have experienced cyberbullying, but in a way that I feel is not as common. In my situation there was a girl in my grade; and my neighborhood; that was getting mean messages by someone. When she asked who they were, they gave a vague answer as to seating in a class we had together and when she gave my name they approved. The following days to this I was getting comments from people that she was friends with, asking if I wanted to fight her, and why i would say these things. This is something I feel happens a lot but no one brings up. Why they dont, I don´t understand. Cyberbullying is becoming more and more common with the growth of social media. Many towns and cities are having this debate about proposing this as a law for the schools to take action to these incidents. “Creating a caring environment at school is important for every student’s well-being,” explained Iowa Governor’s Bullying Prevention Summit website. “It affects how successfully youngsters can focus on learning as well as the other skills they need to develop to make the most of their potential and to be good citizens.” Weather it be on campus or off, schools should be able to take action to the torment of students. If it is a student making a comment or receiving one schools should be able to investigate. Although I do feel they need explicit evidence to point fingers at a specific individual, they should be punished either way. Contacting the victims guardians first, then the bully directly. Contacting the bullies guardians making them aware of the situation how it is being handled and how the punishments will be distributed. It doesn't matter the students age, if they have access to
