" The rise of social media and the internet has provided the people of today with an amazing resource of information and entertainment, but this does not mean that there are not issues that come along with it. The internet is a place where names can remain anonymous and people can communicate with almost anyone they want. This ability that the internet gives people has caused the debate over regulation of the internet to rise. Some demand for regulate due to reasons such as bullies using the internet as a platform to make fun of others. Bullying is an issue that is not taken lightly in today’s society, and the rise of cyber bullying has caused controversy on how to deal with it. Another issue that recently has contributed to this debate …show more content…
But the debate over how to deal with it has become very prominent. One proposed idea is to have schools monitor and regulate social media sources to make sure that there is no cyber bullying amongst their students. In order to do this, school districts would need access to every students account on every social media platform. Many people have an issue with this, because it is a fairly large invasion of privacy. Many students today have plenty of conversations and posts on social media that do not involve any cyber bullying, but this does not mean that these students would love to have their teachers and administrators reading through them. And while regulation of social media sites could effectively stop bullying happening on mainstream social media sources, the internet is endless and kids would begin to explore new social media sources to avoid the school regulations. This also is not the only way that we can make efforts to slow down the problem of cyber bullying. We need schools to educate children on the huge impacts that posts on the internet can have, and give students an easy and anonymous way to report incidents of cyber bullying. This way schools can have access to hurtful posts while avoiding invading the privacy of students who have done nothing

Multiple girls started threatening and bullying her in school which forced her mother, Tricia Norman, to take her out of school and be home-schooled instead. Little did she knew, the bullying carried over online. Rebecca was being cyberbullied with hate messages such as “Go kill yourself” and “Why are you still alive?” It affected Rebecca psychologically and emotionally to the point where she started searching questions online related to suicide such as “How many over-the-counter drugs do you take to die?” and “How many Advil do you have to take to die?” Eventually, Rebecca could not take it anymore and jumped to her death at an abandoned Cemex plant site on North Eastside Drive in Lakeland, Florida (Allen, 2013).
