Cyber Bullying Bullying has been an issue that has lingering schools for decades and still doesn’t seem to have an end in sight. Bullying had mostly been something kids only faced at school but with this new age of technology they face it outside of school as well. Thanks to things like facebook, twitter, and online games children now face a new form of bullying know as cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is the bullying that takes place using electronic technology (stopbullying). This proves to be a problem because kids are now being followed home and tortured by their bullies without them even being there. Cyberbullying can be broken into three major ways the bullying occurs, through social media, texting and online gaming. Through these types of cyberbullying can cause issue that can great affect a child’s life both mentally and physically. However, there are ways to try and prevent it from happening. With today’s social media it is extremely easy for bullies to have access to other kid’s online profiles. This gives bullies another way to make the child they are bullying lives even worse because now they can get to them at home and at school. Cyberbullying with social media can happen by the bullying posting rumors or embarrassing photo of their victim all over their profiles (stopbulling). This is hard for the child to over because even if they delete the comment or picture, if they don’t know the source of them it can always reoccur. With texting it is similar to how it happens like with social media. A child gets home from being bullied at school, try’s to stay away from social networking but still fall prey to bullying through rude texts and hurtful phone calls from their prosecutor. Social media and texting cyberbullying are the most common because over 80% of kids use a cell phone regularly making them always open for cyberbullying (dosomething). Another type of cyberbullying that most wouldn’t consider to be one happens in online gaming. According to beat bullying, “21% of kids 8 to 11 have experienced cyberbullying and 27% of them have faced it while playing games online.” Kids aren’t just bullied through games on their computer but also though gaming console like xbox, playstation, and wii u, these create more opportunities for kids to be bullied through games (nobullying). Just like with bullying cyberbullying can lead to many outcomes and effects that could write out how the kids live the rest of their lives. Stop bullying say “kids who are cyberbullied are more likely to use drugs, skip school or be unwilling to attend school. They could receive poor grades, have low self-esteem or have other health issues.” It has also been reports by stop bullying that youth who are bullied have a higher risk of depression and anxiety. Girls turn out to be twice as likely as boys to become a victim and perpetrator of cyberbullying (dosomething). Cyberbullying and bullying in general can lead to horrible things too. Do something reported “bullying victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to consider committing suicide.” Commiting suicide can happen to any recipients of bullying however, you who are bullied may retaliate with violent measures, in 12 of the 15 school shootings, and the shooters had history of being bullied (fundforcivility). With cyberbullying such an issue with young people today and having these bad effects in their lives it is important for parents and guardians to know how to try and prevent it from happening. Stop bullying gives some way to help prevent cyberbullying, “one being beware of what your kids are doing online, know the sites they visit and the online actives they do. Establish rules on the internet, have sense in which website you allow your children to use and encourage them to speak up if something comes up or they are indeed being cyberbullied.” a basic rule would be to have you kid think about what they post, would it be something that they would want their parents to see or a family member? In the answer is no then they probably shouldn’t be posting that on theirs or someone else wall, timeline, or social media page. Cyberbullying, along with bullying, is still such a big issue with kids today it is important for parents, teachers and even other students to know when they see it and the effects in can have. Bullying could be a lot closer to being stop if everyone simply just stopped and took a minute to think before saying or doing something that could negatively affect someone. In bible, Matthew chapter 7 verse 12 says “so in everything, do to other what you would have them do to you…” if this was followed throughout world many issues, including cyberbullying, would be nothing but a thing of the past.

...October 2015 Article Summary 1: Cyberbullying In the article “An Overview of Cyberbullying in Higher Education,” written by Edwina Thomas Washington in 2014, she explains and deals with the issue of cyberbullying not just in K-12 years, but in college years as well. Throughout the article she explains cyberbullying as it “involves using communications technology to send or post harmful, cruel, or false text messages or images using the internet to harm a victim,” versus traditional bullying which she describes as "face-to-face, physical, and verbal.” The article begins by discussing and explaining exactly what cyberbullying is and what affect it has on the victims involved. She states that one in four American adults fall victim to cyberbullying and it can led to many tragic outcomes, such as depression, anxiety, suicide, and quitting their jobs. Washington then goes into great detail about three tragic incidences that have occurred in connection to cyberbullying involving college students. The first incident led to the male victims being embarrassed by one girl’s fake thesis involving them, the second incident led to a male student committing suicide from being spied on with another male, and the third incident forced a popular male victim to make a statement about his experience dating a “girl” online for three years to find out it had been a male all along. She then begins to form a relationship between traditional bullying and cyberbullying, in which she says “traditional...

Cyberbullying is specifically focusing on the legal and psychological ramifications of the action. Cyberbullying involves the transmission of harmful or cruel text or images using the Internet or other digital communication devices, such as cell phones. It often involves stalking, threats, harassment, impersonation, and humiliation. The author reveals that cyber bullies and their victims are just as likely to be female as male, though they are often older adolescents. Cyberbullying is a reality of the digital age. The specific elements of repetition, power imbalance, intention, and aggression, regarded as essential criteria of traditional face-to-face bullying, are considered in the cyber context. It is posited that the core bullying elements retain their importance and applicability in relation to cyberbullying. ...Cyberbullying Is NOT a Joke Cyberbullying Is NOT a Joke Have you ever been made fun of or made fun of someone else? For most of us we have. But with today’s technology it’s so much easier. With technology something that might have started as a joke can quickly turn into something mean. Cyberbullying is defined as bullying that takes place using technology. This includes phones, computers as well as social media and messages. Technology, especially the internet has made a big difference to how we live our daily lives for example, shopping. However, it has made it so much easier to exploit others. The charity ChildLine saw 4,507 cases of cyberbullying in 2012-2013, up from 2,410 in 2011-2012. I think cyberbullying is worse than bullying because it can happen for longer. It can happen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it could happen at absolutely anytime. Whereas, bullying can only happen face-to-face. At least with bullying you can have some sort of escape when you’re at home but with cyberbullying you can’t because pictures and messages can be spread quickly and easily. According to the Journal more than ¼ of victims didn’t know who their bullies were. Just imagine, someone bullying you for maybe weeks but not being able to do very much to stop them because you don’t know who it is. Cyberbullying can happen for many reasons, some do it because it can be done anonymously. Stopbullying.gov says there are usually two kinds of people who are...
