Dear Pen Pal, How are you doing today? My name is Cole Faierstain and I am here to tell you about the reasons behind my interest in dance appreciation. At first when it was time to pick all of my classes I was looking for a class that fit my schedule and was flexible. One of my good friends told me there was this class that was interesting and a good class for what I was looking for. She said that Dance Appreciation was a class that was flexible enough and interesting enough for me to take along with my heavy course load. Therefore I decided that this class was going to be very important for my studies this year. Some of my friends decided to take the class as well this semester so it makes this class interesting because I have a lot of people to talk about the information about. My mother and my sister are avid dancers and they have been dancing for their whole lives. When I was younger I always had gone to all of their dancing comeptitions and performances and I loved the way everyone competed, looked, and acted out on the dancing floor. My sister was very good at ballet which got me very curious when learning about ballet in this class. In middle school I had a dance unit in physical education which broadened my horizon of the dance world. We learned all these types of dancing such as the two step, ballet, hip-hop, and some barn dances. All of these dances were really great to learn about and interesting to actually do with other people. I also participated in a group called “Social Dance” in which every Saturday we went into this large auditorium and viewed other people dancing and tried to mimic their dances with a partner. I was always very nervous to go on stage and dance in front of the whole group. I remember that there was a lot of ballet involved and the costumes were much like the ones we have learned in this class. We got to try on the ballet

Orb Spider Summary

...“Orb Spider” shows a garden spider and a microcosmically ordered and perfectly structured spider’s web that the spider created. The natural ability of the spider to create such a faultless design in its web is used as a symbol for the innate order existing in the universe. A small detail in nature is chosen, which shows readers an overwhelming truth. It is that despite how small the spider’s world actually is (relating the spider with the galaxy) and it shows that even the smallest of worlds are beautiful too. The poem can be read with a tranquil emotion. There are no harsh-sounding words to ruin the calming atmosphere presented in the poem. The gentleness throughout the descriptions of the poem also help accentuate the tenderness and appreciation spoken from the poem. There is a sense of harmony and beauty within the...

Why Value Life

...Why value life? Life is full of happiness, joy, peace, glory and love. It is the greatest gift one can receive from God. We live not only for ourselves but also for others, specially our families and loved ones. Life is full of happiness as well as sorrow, problems as well as solutions, kindness as well as selfishness, but that’s what makes life challenging. As the quotation says, “Live life to the fullest.” We must enjoy every day, every minute and every second of our existence. We cannot bring back the time that has been gone, but we can enjoy what we have now. Valuing life is like valuing yourself. If you value yourself you also value others. We didn’t beg nor ask for it, but God gave it to us, our life, our family, and our friends. And one way of saying thanks to Him is by loving, protecting and most of all, the contentment that we know someone loves us. In that way, we appreciate and love what God has created and given us. No one has the right to neither take away someone’s life nor kill themselves. It is not right to kill people, for everyone has their freedom to live and enjoy life, and no one must commit suicide just because of problems they cannot handle. It only depends on us, on how we look into things and find the solutions ourselves. Valuing our life and other’s life is the only thing we can present to God when we reach the altar of heaven; it is a proof that we appreciated and love the life, the experience and joy that has been lent to us while we are...

Social Exchange Theory/Friendship

...Unfaithfulness “Every person, all the events of your life are there because you have drawn them there. What you choose to do with them is up to you.”-Richard Bach. We meet many people and start different kinds of relationships during our lives. What is the reason not all of them last? All relationships have give and take although the balance of this exchange is not always equal. When we feel that we give more than we receive that is when we decide to end it. My friendly relationships had a nice start and lasted for a few years but had to end eventually because undesirable and negative aspects outweighed positive ones. I knew this girl for quite some time but we were never friends. It was our mutual friend ‘s party when we were officially introduced to each other. I felt connected to her from the very beginning. Since that day we started spending a lot of time together. We were on the same page almost about any discussion and if we would disagree on a subject one of us always knew when to step back so it doesn’t lead into a fight. I shared all my secrets with her. I felt emotional disclosure with her. Any time of the day I could call her and she was always ready to listen and give her advice of her thoughts. I was very happy to have a friend like that, because it is hard to find one that you feel comfortable telling everything about yourself including secrets. I felt like I was lucky to have a friend that understood me and was always there for me. One of the costs...

Thomas Paine

...Prompt: According to Thomas Paine, “That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly. It is dearness only which gives everything its value.” Early in my life, I was taught to work for what I have and to have what I work for. I was taught if I did not earn what I have that it would be less appreciated in the end. My grandfather taught me early that a chore completed would be worth its weight in wages beyond a monetary value. I learned early that I should appreciate what God blesses me with and that I should earn those blessings. If I should sit by and the blessings keep mounting up without any effort on my behalf would I appreciate them at their worth? This was one of my most valuable learning’s in life. There are several television shows I sometimes stop to watch when I am scanning the channels for something of interest. These shows paint the pictures of what I consider to be wealth that was obtained easily and esteemed too lightly. We see in some of these episodes where individuals and couples squander through millions of dollars in short periods of times. They find themselves bankrupt and in more turmoil than when they did not have the extravagant means upon winning a lottery. If these individuals had worked hard for their money it would have meant more to them. Earning their means could have prevented them from squandering through millions of dollars. I know a young man who lost his parent tragically when he was ten years old. He inherited a very large...

He taught our class a lot about gangs from their symbols, inductions, tattoos, rules and ect.. He had a lot of knowledge about these gangs. I find him brave for dealing with such things as gangs because they are so dangerous. I also appreciate him sharing his knowledge about gangs with us so I know what signs to look for so I can steer clear of any gangs. Marty Monahan was a very good guest speaker. He taught us about Arson. Marty Monahan is a Arson investigator. I found his presentation interesting because he went over all of the steps that he uses to investigate arson. I was not well educated at all about arson before I met Marty. He taught us a lot and I appreciated it. Kevin Hogan was a guest speaker on probation. I found his presentation interesting because he told us all about probation. I myself have Kovaleski 2 known people on probation and they usually say it sucks. I never really knew what the rules and regulations of probation were though. Probation seems like a rough thing to deal with. I would not want to ever put myself in the position where I would need to be put on probation. He made it clear how much it does “suck”. He also had some really funny stories about people on probation as well that I enjoyed hearing. Sgt. Ferranti and his dog were one of my favorites...

How to Create Strong Relationships?

...How to Create Strong Relationships? By: Serene Halawani People are social beings that have a thirst and strong desire to feel important and liked, but the question is how are we able to accomplish this. The answer to this complex question is simple; creating strong relationships with your day-to-day social contact, to do this you must learn the fundamental techniques to lead a successful and happy life. You must learn how to handle people the right way and to be open to changing yourself and the people around you that is the secret to getting people to like you. Criticizing, condemning, and complaining is one of the worst ways of handling people, it will just arouse hate and scar the others persons pride and feeling of importance. How did Abraham Lincoln come to be one of the most beloved people of his and our time? Why did he make millions of people fall in love with him? The secret to his success was that he was great at handling people, he never criticized or complained; instead he tried to put himself in the others persons position and try to look at things from the others persons perspective. Remember the next time you want to criticize a person that it’s futile. Think of Abraham Lincoln and his wise way of acting and try to understand the other person, because one of the keys to be able to create a strong and thriving relationship is to be able to see things from the others persons perspective as well as your own. One of the strongest desires in human nature is the...

Contribution of Western Education to Development in Nigeria

...The contributions of western education to development in Nigeria. If a man is born blind, he may not appreciate what it means to see the light, but ones his sight is recovered he would definitely not want to be thrown back into perpetual darkness. Darkness, blindness or ignorance are terms that could be interchangeably used to describe the state of Nigeria before the advent of western education. No matter how beautiful or promising an environment may be, it would neither be seen nor appreciated in darkness. Light is needed to appreciate anything good, amend anything that is not good enough or throw away anything that is bad outright. Western education came with light appreciating treasures we had with us all the time but never discovered right under the ground. At a time, it was called the ‘black gold’. The discovery of crude oil in Nigeria would not have been possible without our embracing western education. The proceeds from crude oil have in no little way contributed to the development of Nigeria today. With western education came literacy, the ability to read and write which has immensely helped in the acquisition of knowledge and set the foundation for our educational system today. Western education brought with it other dividends of westernization like electricity, pipe-borne water, improved healthcare system, mechanized agriculture with improved yields, the internet making us a part of the global village, GSM technology making communication easier and faster...
