Evaluation Data Tables
Data Table analysis is essential to the success of Kudler, the information provided in these tables is available for the end user to determine inventory levels and when ordering is needed. The design of data tables organizes the financial data into department, financial codes, items and then sums of total amount of transaction. Data tables maximize the visual and informational presentation for the financial data. The user can easily identify information about each item as belonging to certain department, and how many items were received at the given cost for a certain period. It allows finding total amount and quantity on hand for an item and calculating average price for an item. Entity relationship diagram illustrates the hierarchy of how information reviewed by end users. The data represented in entity relation diagrams (E-R) includes the business entities and the relationship among them. E-R diagrams use four symbols: rectangles to represent entities, diamonds to describe relationship, ovals describe the entity, characteristics, and connecting lines depicts relationships.
Recommendation for improvements to the Data Tables The Pivot Table is two-dimensional statistical summay of database information and can be improved by arranging the codes chronologically and sorting the data by compiling the list of product inventory levels. This will facilitate monitoring items for a department that has different items to sell. Data sorting will allow visualizing faster and finding the data they need to make effective decisions (Birnbaum, 2003).
Kudler can improve decision making through Pivot Tables. Kudler’s information is overloaded with vast amount of detailed data being generated as standard operations. Data tables visualize the information and make important decision making processes effective and efficient. Pivot tables keep...

...Spreadsheet Sensitivity Analysis Introduction Spreadsheets and the Case Projects The Dynamic Strategic Planning workbook is accompanied by a number of spreadsheet-based tools for data analysis. We have supplied these tools so that the users of this workbook can concentrate upon the use and implementation of decision analysis and strategic planning, rather than focusing upon the mechanics of the mathematics underlying their use. The current form of the spreadsheets is a consequence of a combination of factors: academic research, pedagogical design, and in-class experiences. Based upon new developments, they are being routinely improved. However, no amount of care in tool design can substitute for expertise on the part of the user. The case projects have been designed assuming that these tools will be used effectively. The purpose of this document is to assure that you, the user of these tools, are prepared to exploit them to their fullest - specifically, that you are able to make use of spreadsheet sensitivity analysis tools. Spreadsheet Basics Electronic spreadsheets (as opposed to the paper kind!) have revolutionized business analysis. This should be no surprise, given that one of the developers of the original tool, Visicalc, was a Harvard Business School dropout who recognized that a computer-based tool to facilitate business analysis would have made his life a little simpler at the HBS, and might even help managers when they got out into the real world....

...Sensitivity Analysis Using Data Tables In Excel A data table in Excel is a kind of What-If scenario. The table allows you to create instant results based on two variables which change along the rows and columns of the table. Let’s say we’re trying to predict the number of periods until a currently unprofitable company becomes profitable. We have a goal for managing expense growth rates and a goal for increasing sales growth rates but of course, we don’t know whether or not we’ll hit our targets! A data table can show us at a glance the effects of missing and/or exceeding our target numbers. In a new Excel spreadsheet create an area to hold our assumptions. You can create this region yourself, or download the sample spreadsheet. We need figures in year ‘0’ (the current year) for Revenues, Expenses, Revenue Growth, and Expense Growth. We include the year of interest at the bottom so that we can quickly change the year of interest to see how the company would be doing for a particular year given a variety of revenue and expense estimates. Amount Growth Rate Revenues $1,000,000 15.0% Expenses $1,700,000 3.0% Year 0 Be sure to name your ranges; we’ll be using the names to create a cumulative profit formula. We then ‘surround’ our growth targets with higher and lower estimates as shown below....

Dimensional Model Hands-on-Project

...However, the data needed is in several different databases, paper files and microfiche. A data warehouse would solve the issue of having the information disbursed in many locations and allow the company to quickly analyze the information for better decision making. To pull the information needed for proper analysis a few things must take place. The first item to tackle would be to complete a enterprise wide analysis of the data requirements. This would include having the data that are in paper files and microfiche integrated into the current operational source systems. Once completed a data warehouse will need to be constructed to that will extract data from the existing databases and consolidate the data in one location. The data warehouse architecture that should be used in situation would be the hub and spoke. The hub and spoke architecture is a design were a main data mart is created to house all the clean data. The operational sources are connected to the main data mart and provide all the data regarding the company's operations. This new data is stored by subject matter in an atomic level with a minimum of third normal form (3NF). The data from the operational sources are...
