My generation operates and communicates through technology as if it helps us breathe because most of us rely on it the same way. Technology has evolved the way one connects and relates to other humans. Most connections are not made in person anymore. Dating apps, making friends apps, and social media causes people to network on a whole new level making interactions more complicated. Erica Buddington evokes how there are more negatives than positives with technology in F Boy Literature as it impacts my generation through our relationships and how we view one another.
The positives of technology in regard to relationships is the initial reason Buddington uses dating apps, as do most of our generation because it is easier. Some people struggle with confrontation or conflict partially because they never had to face it in person. Technology makes it easier to say what you feel or think without facing the wrath of the receiving ends reaction. Buddington receives flowers from a man earlier in the day as her friends all come over to watch their all-time favorite romance movie. The man texts her saying “You’re incredible, inspiring, and so different, but you’re just not for me.” This infuriating message was probably 100 times easier to say through text because the man clearly was too coward to face her and tell her it was over. A phrase of words can mean many different things depending on the way it is said. Many people text different ways just as there are different accents and slangs when speaking.
