In our world today a whole lot of are inventions were inspired by the ancient river valley civilizations. Although they ancient civilizations did not inspire like the iphone or ipad. They inspired a lot of better things such as, the sailboat and even mail( OI ). This was around 3500 B.C.Two contributions from the mesopotamian civilization were the invention of cuneiform and hammurabi’s code. To begin, the ancient Sumerians invented cuneiform, which paved the way for written language in the future (OI). Cuneiform was the very first written language, invented over 5000 years ago (Doc. 1). Cuneiform could only be written by scribes in the ziggurat (OI).Sumerians used cuneiform for keeping track of business dealings, keeping records and more (Doc. 1). 2). Hammurabi’s greatest achievement was his code of laws (Doc. 2). Although Hammurabi’s was not the first set of laws it was the most complete set of laws that survived (Doc. 2). In the code, punishments often fit the crime by demanding and “eye for an eye” or a “tooth for a tooth”(Doc. 2). Hammurabi’s code was important because it created a set of rules that helped to govern a civilization while trying to protect people even if they had little political power (Doc. 2). Hammurabi’s code may not have been fair, but they were fair back then (OI).
Both of these ancient civilization inventions were amazing to the Mesopotamians. Cuneiform added a whole new part to the society by giving people the ability to sort things out by writing. Hammurabi's Code was also a great deal because it put order in Mesopotamia. Because of Hammurabi's Code people didn't have to worry about people breaking in and stealing or hurting you. These contributions influenced our world
