Dead on Target (Hardy Boys Casefiles, Case 1) by Franklin W. Dixon

Edge Of Your Seat Suspence!

The Hardy Boys tangle with an international terrorist killer and a secret government agency called the Network.

Personal Review: Dead on Target (Hardy Boys Casefiles, Case 1) by Franklin W. Dixon
"Dead on Target" was the beginning of a new era for the Hardy Boys. This is the first volume of the new (in 1991) series "The Hardy Boys Casefiles", and it is a more adult and action packed series than the original series. This is never more evident than the first two pages of the book. Whereas the original series (started in 1927 and it is still running today) would have various plots by criminals, nobody ever seemed to get killed or nothing too serious would ever happen, but "Dead on Target" opens with the killing of Joe Hardy's girlfriend (and sister of good friend Chet) Iola Morton. For a series that has been known for its lack of actual murders of any on screen

character, this was a shocking and explosive (no pun intended as it was by a bomb that killed Iola) moment. It marked the different direction that the Casefiles would take the reader, as well as the Hardys, on. A car bomb was the cause of death for Iola Morton. Frank and Joe, as well as Iola and Frank's girlfriend Callie Shaw, were at the mall preparing for a political rally. Iola ends up returning to the Hardys' car to pick up more campaign materials when it explodes, killing her. Joe blames himself because his flirting with another girl made Iola mad and this is what led her to be at the car by herself. At the funeral, "Dead on Target" takes another twist by introducing the character of The Grey Man. The Gr ey Man is a member of a secret government organization called "The Network". "The Network" believes that an international group of terrorists, "The Assassins", were responsible for Iola's death and are planning something big for the political rally the following week. The rest of the novel finds Frank and Joe traveling to London, fighting several members of the Assassins, being in the midst of gun battles and defusing a bomb. "Dead on Target" is fast paced with a tighter story than what is found through most of the original series. For fans of the Hardy Boys, "Dead on Target" is likely to be a favorite. It is not for the purists of the series, though. This book takes the brothers down a different timeline than we find in the main series. Since the main series continued to be published at the same time as the Casefiles, these books (Casefiles) are either set at a later date than the continuing series or is part of some alternative timeline since Iola is still alive in the main series. "Dead on Target" has more violence than the "classic" Hardy Boys, but this is a very interesting story, even if it is a bit far fetched. For the first time, terrorism and murder have been introduced to Bayport and the Casefiles bring the reader a new style of story wi th the Hardys. As an introduction to the Casefiles as well as a new episode in the lives of the Hardys, this is a good place to start. Fifteen years after first reading this book it remains a fun read. -Joe Sherry

Is Mass Marketing Dead

...IS MASS MARKETING DEAD? 2 Abstract Some claim that mass marketing is becoming less significant; others claim that it is not and that there will always be room for large brands that employ marketing programs that target the mass market. The paper compares mass marketing and its ability to reach today’s consumers. This examination of mass marketing shows its weakness in the market and its approach to becoming nonexistent. IS MASS MARKETING DEAD? 3 Is "Mass Marketing" Dead? The best approach todetermine the future of mass marketing is to take a look at its conception. The industrial revolution paved the way for the concept of mass marketing. Railroads were being built from coast to coast; providing transportation of both people and product. The telegraph was there to satisfy the need for faster communication.A country that relied on local markets was rapidly growing; cities were being populated and the demand to supply basic needs was greater than any time prior.Savvy entrepreneurs were able to seize this opportunity to make their brand known by mass producing their product and advertising.Mass marketing is a single market plan with the same mix of product, price, andpromotion strategies for the entire market. Those that adapted to this strategy were untouchable in the market place....

Trap Ease

...The positioning of TrapEase is centered around dead mice and the product. They really value their product and want to show its usefulness. The group’s mission statement would be similar to their slogan “Easily trapping mice without a mess.” If the main target is people who stay home, then my mission statement’s point would not be about dead mice but about the peace of an environment that is rodentfree. The mission statement would read like this: “Ensuring a clean and safe environment for our customers through innovation.” 2. Martha has identified that the best target for the TrapEase is women since they do not enjoy the cleanup that happens with the original mousetrap and stay at home. It seems like Martha has used a fast train of thought to come up with this conclusion and not statistics. This is not the best market target. The number of women who study and have a professional life is growing. Martha would have to market the product even more heavily since the number of stayathome women is a smaller one than she believes. The next market segments they should target are restaurants, businesses, and especially environmentalists. This product is easy, clean, and safe and this will help make many targets happy. It is safe to use in a house with small children since it has no springtrap, it is easy to...

Mass Marketing

...The Death of Mass Marketing Mass marketing is dead, or so the heads of social media companies would like companies to believe. Social media has transformed the foundation of marketing, introducing new protocols, paradigms, and procedures for targeting consumers. Indeed, consumers are using social media to communicate directly with companies whose brands they support, offering invaluable feedback in a nearly continual discursive loop on Twitter and other apps. Yet “personal marketing,” as Spellings (2009) puts it, is not necessarily the most effective means for all companies to manage their marketing strategy. Some companies still need to, and do, rely on mass marketing to get across their message to a broad consumer base. Take a company like McDonald’s, which has a target market too diverse for personal marketing to be necessarily of any greater value than mass marketing. Switching from mass to personal marketing would require enormous investments of time and personnel, and might not be as effective either. A similar thing can be said for Apple, which continues to use direct as well as personal marketing for its line of consumer products. The larger the brand, and the more broad its consumer base, the more necessary mass marketing becomes to ensure continued brand management and profitability. Mass marketing works in favor of the company, not the consumer....

...EXCALIBUR ENGINE PARTS – NEGOTIATION PLAN 1. What is your BATNA (Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement)? Sell the pistons to Hanks Super Monster Tractor for $300 / piston 2. Why it is the “best” alternative? * No other viable alternative available if we decided to go without major losses. * Better than not selling at all considering the poor demand for specialized pistons in the market 3. How acceptable your BATNA is to you? This is a very poor BATNA to sell the pistons at a significant loss 4. What are the implications of this acceptability for the way you approach this negotiation? * I’ll try to cut the deal with Knight Engines even if requires to offer some concessions. * If there are no profits for this quarter then the trust of the shareholders will be at stake. 5. Does it seem (initially) that one party is more dependent on getting a deal than the other party is? If so, what are the implications of this potential imbalance? Initially, it does look like we are more dependent on getting a deal with Knight Engines as our BATNA is very poor and we need a good outcome to avoid losses this quarter. But having said that it looks like the other party is also dependent on us because they need to fulfill an order with the government. Also, purchasing 8000 good quality pistons 2 weeks would be a difficult task for them. 6. Decide what the relevant issues are that you want to negotiate. Issues: a. Sales price b. Among the victims killed were two Reuters news reporters, Namir Noor-Eldeen and Saeed Chmagh . The video also contains an audio track of the soldiers voices responsible for the attack in which they laugh about the unprovoked slaughter. The following document covers, in detail, the events that unfold during the video, an extract from the U.S Military Rules Of Engagement for Iraq and in what ways they were violated by the soldiers in question and what happened during the days after the attack. It concludes with a brief discussion of the video by Wikileaks and the effects it has had. All the points in this document will provide evidence that proves, that the actions taken by the crew of the Apache helicopter were unwarranted and despicable. Zombie Apocolypse

...The impending rise of the walking dead creeps closer and closer as the days pass. The exact time is uncertain, but its occurrence is inevitable. Many have begun preparing for the dawn of the dead, stocking up on valuable resources such as shelter, food and water, and weapons, all of which are key factors to surviving the zombie apocalypse. Initially, shelter must be established. A well concealed building, such as a prison, is an ideal shelter from zombies. It is large enough to accommodate a large body of survivors who are hopefully willing to join the fight against the army of the living dead. Gates, fences, and large open areas surrounding the facility make it easier to locate and fend off any zombies that try to breach the perimeter. The solid structure of the building itself will help further deter intruders. A high outlook post within the shelter will also need to be quartered; from which, a designated “spotter” can survey the surroundings for any posing danger. Additionally and unquestionably, food and water are necessities whether zombies are seeking your flesh or not. In order to maintain proper health and nutrition while fighting the undead, food, water, and any other desired supplies will need to be collected and stored. In the midst of the out breaking chaos sprung from the apocalypse, the necessary supplies can be looted from stores or other sources. A large stock of each item is recommended so that it may last an extended period of time....

House Divided Speech

...When the American Civil War took place abolishing slavery was not his primary target. It was to save the Union. "A house divided against itself cannot stand." I believe this government cannot endure; permanently half slave and half free. Lincoln does not think that the “house” can stand if it is divided. He does not believe that the government can endure to be half slave and half free. He does not believe the union to be dissolved, he does not want the union to fall, but he wishes that the union wont be divided. He is speaking to the gentlemen of the convention. The speech took place so he could get voters before the election. The purpose with the speech is first of all separate him self from Douglas and to show his viewpoints of the situation. The union got only two options; the United States would unavoidable become either a slave state or a free state. Because the north and south had different opinions in the question of slavery, and the difficulty had come to imbue all other political...
