...Deandre Blakemore Period: 7-8 College Application Essay “Greater Than the Rest” “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope”. By Martin Luther King,Jr. I wonder what my purpose of existence is. I wonder what type of reflection stares back boldly into my big brown eyes. What type of life have I prepared for myself 10 years from now or even 20 years from now? Which brings me to the big question “Who are you”? I am a young black teenager trying to find my way. I spend most of my energy dreaming about making it in the world. I truly believe that miracles are within my reach if I stand tall and strong in what I believe in. Graduating from grammar school was one victory that started my path in the right direction. The feeling that my parents and family showed me on that day made me believe there were greater things to come. During my 4 years of high school I refuse to accept anything but the best, because perfection is extraordinaire. I was told by my mom the best and the most magnificent and beautiful things in this world come to us not because of who we are but because we have prepared ourselves, for what life has to offer. Through these 4 years I have hit some bumps along the way and I always try to remember what she has taught me along the way of my journey. I try not see things as they are and say ‘’Why” must I dream of things that never were and say to myself “Why Not Me”. I know as a child we were taught as an equal to all others but some may have...

...DeAndre Callands Professor Williams English 111 January 27, 2016 Success essay The media portrays success to be the attainment of riches and the latest of technology and cars. Is this the real definition of success? No, the definition of success is being able to attain a goal or multiple goals that a person has set in life. There are two steps to being successful education and experience. A prime example is of a basketball player I know his name is Randy Foye and he plays for the Denver nuggets. The first thing Randy had to learn the game to be a successful basketball player. He used to spend all his earlier days going to a jersey recreation center. By doing this learning he was able to make mistakes and correct himself, the same way people have to do in life to be successful. People must make mistakes and see the error in there ways. He would also watch game footage from Tim Hardaway and Michael Jordan and see what they did to be successful. He would then emulate them. Like other people do to be successful they watch there idols decisions and actions to learn why they are so successful. If someone wanted to be successful in a field like business they would study people like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs if one want to be successful like them. Randy also spent his 10,000 hours practicing and playing lots of games. Randy had a lot of experience in the mean streets of Newark, New Jersey. He had played with people twice his age and it made him tougher on the court...

The Friar Analysis

...DeAndre Smith 10/12/2014 Ms. Taylor English 3 pd.6/7 The Summoner Key points: 1. A summoner is someone the medieval church hires to call people before the court for their spiritual crimes, like adultery, the punishment for which can be excommunication. Chaucer uses The Summoner as a sign of medieval life by having him pray to God about the lies the Friar has told and how he Boast about going to hell. Then the summoner curses the friar for what he has done. 2. The summoner is characterized as a character that uses divine intervention to control, curse, or affect others. In lines 1707 and 1708 the summoner says “God save you all except this curséd Friar! My prologue I will end with that desire." This shows the summoner praying to God to save everyone but the friar....

The Bucket List

...The bucket list The Bucket List; what can I say? The Bucket List is a movie starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson about the exploits in life they never got to accomplish and set out to do so after discovering they were going to die. It is an interesting take on death and how to deal with death. It shows many different viewpoints on the subject of death not just from the view of Edward (Nicholson) or Carter (Freeman.) This movie really makes you think about how you live your life. The Bucket List was considered one of the most uplifting movies of the year. These men both view death in different ways. Carter in the beginning accepted death; if he did not accept death yet the movie would have been over fairly quick. You can tell he accepted death because he started writing his bucket list as a metaphorical contract that states he has given his life and is ready to die. However towards the end of the movie it seems Carter has no longer accepted death because he refuses to go back home to his family after starting the list. I think he feels this way because he thinks when he gives up on the list that will signify the end. Edward in the beginning does not accept death he refuses to deal with funeral arrangements and the passing down of his possessions. Towards the end Edward realizes that his life has been fulfilled not from completing the list but truly finding a lifelong friend in Carter. It makes you wonder how different these men’s lives would be if they were not to meet...

...Saturday has come and gone, meaning the majority of free agents who signed with new teams over the summer are now trade-eligible. Last week, Grantland took a look at some of the bigger names on that December 15 eligibility list, including Ryan Anderson and Jeremy Lin, but a few other players merit some follow-up now that the deadline has passed. Here's the rundown: Los Angeles Clippers The Clippers have a bunch of mid- and low-salaried players who can now be included in deals: Matt Barnes, Grant Hill, Jamal Crawford, Ronny Turiaf, Ryan Hollins, and Willie Green. Chauncey Billups won’t become trade-eligible until January 15. There are three interesting things in play here: •Health. Billups’s brief comeback is already over, though he’ll presumably return soon. No one knows when Grant Hill will play again, or how effective he’ll be when healthy. Lamar Odom is rebounding better and generally looking almost like an NBA player again, but he’s still shooting 32 percent, including a horrid 4-of-24 from long range, and it’s unclear how much the Clippers will really be able to count on him against good teams in the playoffs. • Rotation issues. Crawford is essential and isn't going anywhere. Barnes has, in many ways, outplayed Caron Butler, whose contract expires after next season. Barnes is a feisty defender and one of the most intuitive cutters in the league, a skill that fits nicely on a team with two offensive centerpieces that draw so much attention; he’s shooting 64 percent on...
