Although holiday camps have been in existence in the UK since the early 1900s, their prominence in the hospitality industry was not established until the 1950s. Holiday camps thrived until the availability of package tours in the 1970s, where due to a subsequent decrease in demand, many were closed down shortly afterwards (Ward and Hardy, 1984). Warner Leisure Hotels identified a potential opportunity in concentrating on one particular sector (Mintel, 2013), the Third Age market. Carr and Komp (2011) describe the Third Age as the period of life which occurs after retirement but prior to the onset of disability, in which individuals are capable of remaining actively engaged. Warner initially launched a marketing campaign “Just for Adults”, in order to attract their target clientele, and cater for guests over the age of 21 only. The defendants which are Pua Yong Yong and Pua Keng Siang, reside at house No. 4 located immediately next to the plaintiff’s residence. A chain-link fence coupled with zinc sheets separates the two houses. Some misunderstandings arose between the plaintiffs and the defendants around February and March 2006. Subsequently the relationship between the plaintiffs and the defendants deteriorated to the extent that the one of the plaintiffs was charged and convicted for criminal intimidation against the defendants. On 13 May 2006, the defendants installed five closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in their house. Four of the cameras are installed at the front porch while one is installed at the rear of the house. Out of these five CCTV cameras, only one CCTV camera which is camera number three located at the front porch is pointing directly at the plaintiffs’ house. Having been born at the end of the Korean War and growing up in the Cold War Era, she felt a strong connection to her cultural ties and grew up with some discomfort in having to adjust to life as a an immigrant. Many Indians claim that it is very similar to British English, but this opinion is based on a surface level examination of lexical similarities. Of course, one must keep in mind that not every linguistic item is used by every Indian English speaker and that a great deal of regional and educational differentiation exists. Even so, items can be identified which are indicative of Indian English speech and which are widely used. These operate on various phonological, morphological, lexical, and syntactic levels, which I will characterized with items brought up in the recorded discussions, in my previous experience with Indian English, and in scholarly writings about Indian English. References to the transcription excerpts (pages 17-26 of this report) are written, for example, as 1.3.4, which indicates Discussion 1, Excerpt 3, Item 4. 4. PHONOLOGY I was able to do very little on the phonological level. I set up a test to see if the English alveolar /t/ would be articulated as the Indian retroflex /t/ or as the dental /t/ in different phonological environments. The result was that the retroflex completely replaced the alveolar; in fact, it has been found that the entire series of English alveolar consonants tends to be replaced by retroflex consonants (Trudgill & Hannah 1994, p.128).
