It is simply pragmatic to restrict migration, while at the same time encouraging integration and fighting discrimination. We support the idea of the free movement of goods, people, money and jobs.
Protocol having been established, good afternoon.
Honourable members of the head table, many nations worry about ethnic conflicts within societies spilling over to other societies. Our environment is conducive to the maintenance of the legal framework that fosters social integration of legally admitted immigrants. Despite the political unrest that we face today, Venezuela can still be considered a country where migrants can be made to feel welcome.
Our primary concern is to protect and serve!
Ladies and gentlemen, each individual needs to feel a sense of belonging. Many receive a “YOU DON’T BELONG HERE” impression. In Venezuela no one is labeled ‘alien’.
Mr. President, we concede that we have a serious problem on our hands, but it has not reached the magnitude and intensity as Honduras in 2001, Syria in 2013, and the prevailing chaos that exist in Ukraine. For it is in situations such as those where “unconstitutional interruption” is quite evident! Show me a country that doesn’t have a problem, and I’ll show you a handsome monkey!
The social unrest that has developed in Venezuela, is being dwarfed by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the cryptic disappearance of Malaysia Airline MH370, the mudslide in Washington and the 8.2 earthquake in Chile.
This in itself shows that there is absolutely no need for our country to be placed under heavy scrutiny. Thus, the litmus test for democracy and governance, is just that. For even the Organization of American States (OAS) seems hesitant to intervene, because there is no “unconstitutional interruption” of democracy.
Distinguished delegates, democracy must be based on the particular conditions of each society, but also on the stared values of equal dignity and rights for ALL human beings
. In order for economic development and growth to be a positive factor, there has to be political, social and economic accountability of people in position of power for their actions.
It is as a result of migration, that our country has become more prosperous, resilient and extremely diverse! Migrants should be seen as “development partners!”
UNDP Country Director, Toshihiro Tanaka, stated at a lunching of National Financed Freedom Campaign, 2013, that “we need to integrate migration into the development agenda, for it provides opportunities which benefits all concerned – the migrants, their families and, their destinations”.
Like the Secretary of State, John Kerry, and other bipartisan groups, we too are disappointed and deeply concerned about the situation at home. It is our hope that order will be restored soon, and that Venezuela will resume its title of being a, hospitable, steadfast, and prosperous nation. Mr. President.

Competitive Debating

...your communication skills. It is about assembling and organizing effective arguments, persuading and entertaining an audience, and using the language to convince people that your arguments outweigh your opposition's. Debating is not about personal abuses, irrational attacks or purely emotional appeals. A debate usually involves two sides talking about a topic (often called a motion). As a competition, teams of debaters attempt to show the adjudicators that they have the best debating skills. Being the best debater does not mean that the debater's opinion has to coincide with that of the adjudicators. After attending this course and the course on specific debating formats, it is expected that the trainee would be able to conduct their first competitive debate properly. Understanding Formats To ensure proper conduct of the debates in a competitive setting, competitions usually enforce what is called a format. In collegiate level competitive debating, these formats are usually based on the debates conducted in a parliament, such as Australian Parliamentary, British Parliamentary, and Asian Parliamentary. Aspects regulated by a format include: • number of teams in each debate; • number of debaters in each team; • duration of speeches • order of speeches; • roles of speakers (what is expected from each speaker); • allowance/prohibition of interjections/interruptions; • issues on making a definition of the motion; • procedure, criteria, and marking scale for adjudication...

We shall limit ourselves here with discussing formal contest debating between educational institutions, or, in the world of homeschooling, between families that choose to bypass educational institutions and educate their children at home. The ability to communicate effectively is necessary in all aspects of life, especially when debating a subject. In the film “The Great Debater”, speech preparation, delivery, verbal messages and interpersonal communication played a vital role. Through the use of these skills, the Wiley College debate team achieved success. Speech preparation and organization were essential to the characters debates. Preparation began with a resolve and which side of the argument they stood. Once established, the students began their speech research, gathering facts, primary and secondary sources, examples and quotes. Organization of the topic was analyzing both sides of the argument in order to be prepared for their rebuttals. Organization also helps to analyze the information and make sure all points are supported. Practicing delivery and how the speech would flow, whether in chronological order, using past events, or quotes from famous people to prove their point was also part of their organization. Delivery, verbal messages, and facial expression were important for the students to appear credible. ...How to Perform Well in a Debate 1. Exploring the Art of Rhetoric a. Discover how to persuade through Invention. The five canons of rhetoric were first coined by the Roman philosopher Cicero in the first century. Cicero laid out these five major rules of rhetoric, dividing skillful argumentation into more digestible parts. The first step of rhetoric is called Invention. It refers to the nascent stages of an argument, where you discover the pressing nature of your argument for your particular audience. You’ll need to have an understanding of your audience's desires and needs, as well as how to best appeal to them. When appealing to your audience, think about a balance of logos, ethos, and pathos. These three modes of persuasion will be used to convince your audience to believe in your argument. Each will provide a different reaction from a crowd, and you must change your approach to adapt to the needs of your audience. b. Assemble your argument with Arrangement. The order that your audience hears your argument has a massive effect on how they'll perceive your speech. You've most likely come across the five-paragraph essay in your studies. While this format isn't appropriate for all speeches, the basic layout is based on Greek and Roman argumentative structures. The five steps are as follows: Introduction. Express your message and why it's important to your audience, as well as yourself. Statement of fact. Break down the general thesis of your argument...

Debate as a Teaching Strategy

...Debate as a Teaching Strategy Cinthya Alicea Keiser University Debate as a Teaching Strategy Communication is the most crucial part of human interaction. There are many benefits to effective communication which enhance aspects of our personal everyday lives. There is also misunderstood communication which results in a vain outcome and can lead to embarrassment or even more serious results in an adult’s life. Public speaking today is not rare, we go on about our daily lives communicating with people throughout our day whether it be work related or just speaking socially for recreational purposes. Public speaking promotes communication for important messages or simply for teaching purposes. When we combine communication and teaching we can create great lectures but when we involve our listeners and interact with one another we create a debate. This paper is going to promote the benefits and applicable use of debate as a teaching strategy. There are many teaching strategies used today. Each is specifically distinguished and with its own discipline. Teaching strategies break off into braches to create types of lectures that fit with the learning styles of the students. ...Associated with Group Debates Competitive debate in any format sharpens the ability to research and analyze problems, think and listen critically by expressing thoughts clearly and fluently. It increases your confidence and poise and provides constant intellectual stimulation. Group formatted debates gives each debater an active role, members are generally randomly placed into groups of only two or three on each team, resulting in four to six debaters for each topic. When debates are set up in a group manner, people who make up the audience benefit from critically evaluating of each debaters on content, involvement, language, and speech; fishbowl discussions used in the fields have demonstrated positive learning opportunities for participates. Some drawbacks to these type of debating style are more reserved people are less likely to actively participate and there a tendency for males to be more comfortable than females in adversarial environments and the preference of some cultural groups for harmony over open opposition. This debate format has been criticized for oversimplifying complex issues into dichotomous options. The use of groups debating in front of the rest of the class allows for diverse evaluation of the issues by the student listeners, who are observing the debaters. The people who are listening are less focused on winning or losing the debate and can offer critical evaluation of the arguments presented. During the discussions following the debate people may assess...

Debate

...Debate The technique of persuasive argument is a skill that you must acquire in order to participate in a successful debate. The art of being eloquent, choosing your words wisely, and being able to think on your feet, encompasses many of the components that any debater should be able to handle. In our first debate last week, we got off to a bit of an awkward, slow start. A few of us were confused on the format, when to speak, and what to say next. After several people went up and read their paper, it was time for rebuttals. Certain people had no problem getting up in front of the class, and vehemently stating their position on the topic at hand. Once we were able to rebuttal with more ease, the debate went on a little more smoothly. In the middle of the debate, people didn’t want to end the argument as early as we did. We began to think more critically, coming up with better counterarguments and ideas. Considering this was our first debate, I would have to give it a six out of ten. Both teams were strong in some areas, and weak in others. Over time we will become stronger debaters and be able to develop and hone our skills. As we use the middle school format more often, we will become use to it and be prepared with a closing speech from both sides and a stronger opening argument. As captain for the first time and for the rest fo the class, we will be able to strategically plan who will speak next in the middle of the debate. We can send up our stronger members for some tougher...

...In life we perform various actions of which before performing we do not think the consequences of; it is only after experiencing the effects of it that we are able to highlight the causes. People behave the way the way they do because of their past, their past experiences in life, how they were treated, and what events occurred in their life, what paths and methods they were influenced or forced to chose. All these can be causes for a person behaving or acting the way he does. Same is the case with me. I did not realize the actions I did were good or bad until I saw the side effects of them. The side effects were evident through the different events that occurred in my life later on. The realization came to me only after experiencing those events. The realization was a gradual process.(transition) Few months back I got admission in IBA, in the field of BBA. It is considered to be one of the top universities for bachelors in business administration in Pakistan. In the first couple of weeks everything sailed smoothly, and I thought I was on top of the world. But as the saying goes, everything that goes up must come down, and so I to had a downfall. ...Modern Urban World Torrence The differences Whites and Blacks, as well as their comparisons, are portrayed through two different movies of two different eras of American history. Remember the Titans centers around an integrated high school football team in Virginia in the 1970’s. The team has to figure out how to bond together as one in order to overcome racial adversity of the south in the 1970’s. The Great Debaters takes place in Texas during the Great Depression of the 1930’s. Three black college students on a debate team, along with their coach Professor Tolson, travel the road debating more and more prestigious colleges, while developing as young educated black men (and women) in the racist 1930’s south. Character development is both films plays a vital role. In Remember the Titans, the relationship formed between Gary and Julius, and Boone and Yost symbolizes the White/Black differences coming together and actually forming stronger friendships then that of two of the same races. There were also the supporting roles of characters that helped integrate the football team such as Louie, Rev, and Blue who were the very first players who were able to set color aside as it has nothing to do with neither football nor the quality of a man. In The Great Debaters, the growth of Henry Lowe and the relationship between James Farmer Jr. and his father are crucial to watch.
