Decision Making
Effective decision making is a key factor when managing an organization. Managers are often left to have to make crucial decisions every day that influence the operations, quality and success of his or her organization. The health care industry is one of the largest growing industries in the nation. Technology and advanced medical services point to the constant changes that are happening in the health care industry. The nation’s economy continues to change, and with these changes, health care costs have risen. The present state of the economy has had a major effect on health care across the nation. Individuals and families who receive Medicaid services have been especially affected in the health care system with budget cuts and reduced services.
Gardner County Clinic has about seven offices located in Northern, California which provides services to low income communities and Medicaid recipients. The clinic provides primary health care and behavioral services which include prevention and education, early intervention and treatment, mental health, advocacy services and is committed to improving the health condition of children, adults and elderly. The Gardner County Clinic is not different when it comes to budgets cuts. The clinic’s budget has been reduced by 15% and this budgets cut have affected the clinic significantly. With the current budget constraint, decisions have to be made in regards to what clinical services should be eliminated or introduced or what changes could best address the situation to help benefit both the clinic and Medicaid recipients, and continue to provide quality services. Budget preparation and administration are important and are major duties for a manager. Before dealing with the actual calculations, the manager must understand the basic concepts of and principles of budgeting (Liebler & McConell, 2008). Medicaid

...Decision-Making Case Study The looming changes in health care are a frequent topic in many meetings with health care providers. Budget cuts are not just a speculation but are a reality. Decision-making to provide quality patient care with less money is a challenge at best. The Informed Decisions Toolbox can assist administrators and managers with evidence-based decisions that will allow patients to receive the quality care they deserve while reducing expenses. The Informed Decisions Toolbox The Informed Decisions Toolbox (IDT) is the result of a research study to aid managers with making evidence-based decisions that improve organizational performance. The IDT has an approach of six steps to decision-making (Rundell, et al, 2007): (1) framing the management question, (2) finding sources of information, (3) assessing the accuracy of the information, (4) assessing the applicability of the information, (5) assessing the actionability of the evidence, and (6) determining if the information is adequate (p. 325). As a facilitator for the use of evidence-based research in decision-making, the IDT assists decision-makers with estimating how operational and strategic decisions will have an effect on the organization. Evidence-based decision-making is not new to the health care industry. Clinicians have incorporated evidence-based research for years when making patient treatment determination. The use of evidence-based research for decision-making in other realms of healthcare...

...Decision - Making Case Study Analysis HCS/514 Managing in Today’s Health Care Organizations August 28, 2015 Introduction The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) produced a set of developmental tools to aid decision makers in discovering and interpreting evidence related decisions. These developmental tools are to promote the use of evidence-based management within a health care setting. The informed decision toolbox was created to help merge the gap between evidence based research and decision making within an organization (Crump & Spurgeon, n.d.). These tools consist of six steps that will guide managers and decision makers in constructing well informed decisions. The steps are composed of; framing the question behind the decision, finding sources of information, assessing the accuracy of information, assessing the applicability of the information, assessing the actionability of the information and determining if the information is adequate are used by managers to consider if the decision they are making is well informed (Young, 2002). Framing Questions and Locating Sources By framing the question behind the decision, a manager must first identify what the decision is and then determine what information must be obtained in order to make a well informed decision. To properly make a well informed decision, a manager must frame a question that will properly translate what research must be conducted to begin research. The questions will be used...

This question is one that will be an ongoing topic. Many scholars continue to debate whether the justices, and thus the courts outputs, actually respond to the public preference (Mishler and Sheehan, 1996). Common people wonder if the Appeals Court Justices will decide the verdict of a case based on others opinion or if the Appeals Court Justices will make their decision based on other factors. Case Study: Decision Making Based on Mission and Vision of an Organization

...Healthcare workers are often warned to take precautions so that, they could avoid HIV/AIDS infection and may also not spread such infection from one patient to another. Since I read the case study: Decision Making Based on Mission and Vision of an Organization I will discuss in this paper the best solution on correcting the problem with Community Medical Center. I will go over the best mission or vision that is best suited for the business. A mission or vision is very important to a business. This is a good way to keep communication strong between the staff of the business. According to Johnson (2009), “Communication is critical for successful health outcomes; communication is the vital process that links consumers of care and providers of care” (p.226). In order for the president to come up with the best decision to communicate with all the staff he must have a clear vision to stand by in order to handle the issue at hand. Mission or Vision Statement Mission statements are an integral part of the strategic planning and implementation process that can provide direction to choices in strategic direction (Sattari, Pitt, & Caruana, 2011). The mission statement for Community Medical Center states: The mission of Community Medical Center is to improve the health of our community by providing high quality, caring, culturally appropriate primary health care that addresses the needs of people. In order to accomplish this mission in a way that is consistent with the values of the organization...

Shania And Kelsey's Decision-Making Case Study In A Small Business

...In this discussion post, you recommended that Shania include her sister, Kelsey, within her plans for the coffee shop, because her willing support and enthusiasm would make her a valuable member of this team. If the individuals presented within this scenario were unbelievers, this recommendation would be sufficient; however, the fact that Shania and Kelsey are believers means the relevance of biblical instruction must be considered in this decision-making process. Since she would already be aware of Shania’s strengths and weaknesses, this fit could be a terrific asset to the new company, and I completely agree that a family working together in a business is a viable solution. At the same time, Kelsey’s husband has expressed that he does not want her to be a part of the business, which for the Christian woman creates a dilemma. While the idea of submission in marriage challenges the modern feminist viewpoint, Scripture is still very clear on the necessity of this role for women in a marriage. Paul instructed women to submit to their husbands in the same way that the church submits to Christ (Eph. 5:24)....

“the Effects of Road Traffic Congestion on Residential Decision- Making of Inhabitants of the City of Accra- a Case Study of Communities Along Three Congested Routes”

...Topic: “The effects of road traffic congestion on residential decision- making of inhabitants of the city of Accra- A case study of communities along three congested routes” Transportation is essentially a response to the mobility needs of people, and this must be done in a timely fashion in order for people to realize its full benefits. Consequently, transportation plays a crucial role in the socio-economic and politico-cultural development of people and their communities. However, there are some related problems (such as congestion, mobility gaps, urban sprawl, and emissions amongst others) that come with it. In Ghana, transportation is almost synonymous with road transport as it is the major means by which peoples’ mobility needs are answered on daily basis. Road traffic congestion in the city of Accra has almost become an’ acceptable norm’ since residents have to live with this phenomenon every passing day of their lives. The factors responsible for this trend are as follows: growth in the population of Accra over the last 15 years (and this has been estimated to double in the next 20 years) associated with a continuing trend of reduction in population density; expansion in built-up area; growth in per capital income (which has also been estimated to have increased five folds over the last 15 years) with a concomitant increase in car ownership. Currently over 70% of major roads in Accra and Kumasi-the two biggest cities in the country- are said to be congested and should the...

...Decision-Making Case Study HCS/514 Ed Paluch Decision-Making Case Study It has been estimated that approximately 75% of the average managers time is spent on the decision-making process (Free Case Study on Decision Making, 2011). A critical component in managing an organization, its staff and resources is successful decision-making. The quality and efficiency of those decisions will determine how well the manager is doing. Managers have plenty of responsibility because they are the ones that have to make the right decision when solving issues. Today, decision-making regarding health services for consumers and patients are becoming guided by evidence of need, effectiveness, and ways to use resources optimally. This is becoming a growing model among health care organizations and its managers. However, there are barriers for managers in using evidence decision-making. Time is a big barrier, there are deadlines that managers usually have to work with that is very time consuming. For instance, plenty of time is required to research, accessing relevant data, reliance on outside consultants and subordinates in acquiring quality information, politics, and lack of resources. The use of an sufficient decision-making tool that assists managers in efficiently making strategic, evidence based decision-making as well as improving the performance of their organizations is the Informed Decisions Toolbox as outlined by Thomas Rundall.
