About three years ago I decided to change jobs. I was called by a former coworker about a position opening up in a new retirement community that was preparing for opening. I am a housekeeper at a retirement community. This was never a career choice for me, but instead a necessity. It has always been my goal to get out of this job field and I felt an opportunity has come. The position was for a housekeeping supervisor. I applied for the position apprehensively because it had been seven years since I had held a supervisory position and my skill set was out dated. I also had apprehension about working with the former coworker again because he had sexually harassed me previous years earlier.
I discussed the possibility with my mother who is a big confidante of mine. I didn’t disclose my thoughts on the coworker but only my thoughts of the position. She suggested I research the position and compare it to my skills. After research I found that the only real difference was the title and that I would have staff to organize. I updated my resume to highlight my current skill set and submitted it to the hiring representative at the new company. I ended up getting the job but it ended up being a bad decision.
The steps I took to come to this decision were somewhat similar to the process in the text. I stated the problem which was deciding if I was qualified to take a new job. I generated solution which was to research the position and determine if my skill set applied. I had to decide if I wanted to apply and if it was the right time for me to take on a new job. I decided that I did want to apply and got the position. After evaluation of my decision I found that it was actually it bad one. I don’t believe that my decision would have been different had I followed the steps exactly. I believe it was more a matter of

Consider the Lobster

...Foster Wallace claims that he isn’t making his article Consider the Lobster an argument about morality, I believe that is his main intention. While I will admit that he does an excellent job explaining the viewpoints from both humans and lobsters, is it really necessary for him to explain the viewpoint of the lobsters? Wallace is trying to guilt us into thinking how we treat lobsters is morally wrong. Mother nature made us higher up on the food chain, so there is no need to feel guilty about something we are eating as a mechanism for survival. David Foster Wallace provides valid points regarding morality in his essay Consider the Lobster, however because it was assigned for college students to read, his argument is portrayed as unimportant and unnecessary to the audience. The whole purpose of Wallace’s essay was to make the reader think about morality and how people should put more thought into our decision making process. Although he’s asking directly whether or not we should consider the feelings of the lobster when we eat it, the bigger picture questions our ability to process all the little details when making decisions in life. The longer it takes for someone to make a decision the worst the outcome is going to be, because the thought of doubt enters your mind. So, why should we waste our time thinking about what we should or shouldn’t eat when we all have more important things to worry about? Wallace opens up his essay describing the scene of the Maine Lobster...

The reasons are that by analyzing the table: Power Distance is the extent to which people accept as fact the principle of the division of authorities and priviledge among different groups within society. High power distance nations certain consumer behaviors are designated to individuals by class or status. Authority appeals in marketing are more effective. With all this in mind we see that Mexico has a higher power distance but this is not necessarily an important factor when making the market decision Individualism – people expect each other to take responsibility for themselves and their family. Western Alienation

...Western Alienation Western alienation is defined as a “political ideology” or regional discontent, this is rooted with the dissatisfaction of western provinces in the federal government by representation. This essay will examine the causes of western alienation in Canada by examining 3 main causes: Inter-state federalism, the senate and the importance of Quebec emerging in late 1900's. Governments in Canada have developed relations between themselves, involving government and legislation. Inter government relations resemble international diplomacy( meetings with prime minister, provincial premiers, staff and flags). Conducted by government and politicians who have to be sure of the fact that what they do in inter government relations is public and people are watching them. Proponents of the western alienation may suggest that complaints in western Canada most often have to do with matters falling within the jurisdiction of the federal government, such as trade policy, tariffs, equalization procedures, and various aspects of fiscal arrangements pertaining to federal social program investment and expenditure. The West wants fair rules and regulations regarding these matters of federal concern. Thus, this desire should not be correlated with the demand for more provincial powers or jurisdiction. The most popular form of representation in the house of commons is the senate, in Canada the senate is appointed by the Prime Minister. Although the senate in Canada does not represent...

A peer-reviewed research paper published by The Journal for Nurse Practitioners entitled “Who Will Listen? Rural Teen Pregnancy Reflections.” There are both medical and social concerns that occur with teen pregnancy. Teen pregnancy statistic shows that teen mothers give birth to premature babies with low birth weight. The social aspect is teen mothers do not complete high school and lives in poverty. These situations rank high in abuse and neglect with teen parents. Definition of the Problem Rural areas show the highest rate of teen pregnancy compared to state rates, which produces a problem that researchers are questioning why this rate is higher in the rural areas. The Theory of Adolescent Sexual Decision Making (TASDM) is the basis this research was conducted to resolve. Critical Thinking

...Thinking Essay Gen 200/ Scott Hopkins Critical Thinking Essay Critical thinking by definition means “disciplined thinking that is clear, rational, open-minded, and informed by evidence”. You think critically every day, whether it is trying to understand the lyrics to a song, or writing a ten page paper. When you think critically, you have to be able to put your bias aside, and try to understand what the writer is trying to get across. The critical thinking process has six different steps, all of which are very beneficial to people that want to become good writers. Benjamin Bloom, a known Psychologist, named these six steps, what we refer to now, as the Bloom’s Taxonomy. The first level of Blooms Taxonomy is remembering what you have previously read or learned. Second, is understanding, making sure that you can remember what you read and making sure you are able to explain it in your own words and give examples. Level three of Blooms Taxonomy is applying the ideas that you understand to construct an outcome. Examples of this would include solving a problem, making a huge decision, or finally completing something that you have been trying to finish for a while. Analyzing your ideas is the fourth level of Bloom’s Taxonomy. This level helps you analyze your ideas and break them up into steps or groups that are similar to each other, for example, reading a book and outlining what the book was about. The fifth step of Bloom’s taxonomy is evaluating ideas and making an honest...

Centralized vs. Decentralized Organizational Structure

...common significant role in globalization. However, the way the corporations are managed is very dissimilar. In this essay, the distinctness of how the multinational corporations are managed, especially the differences between organizational structures of Ford and Honda will be discussed. The background of a multinational corporation is an organization doing business in more than one country. In other words it is an organization or enterprise carrying on business in not only the country where it is registered but also in several other countries. It may also be termed as an international corporation, global giant and worldwide corporation (Shyam Soni, 2012). Ford is one of the earliest international companies in the world. They organize their company with a really wise way – decentralized decision-making. It is generally seen that there are more and more plus points of decentralization for decision-making. It is said by Kuldeep (2012) that decentralized decision-making helps to reduce burden of top executives and they can concentrate to another important tasks of policy-making, coordination and control. He also states that prompt and more accurate decisions can be made near the point of action without consulting higher levels and without waiting for approval of top executives.
