Now that I have gotten over my initial resignations about Kava, I can begin to get to business. I have to figure out how to make Bank of Americas presence here both profitable and essential for us and for the people who live here. The goal of Bank of Americas investment in Kava is both high risk and at the same time has the possibility of being highly profitable. The object here is to open banking centers and starts helping the people that live here go into business for themselves and to help bring other businesses to the area. We want to help Kava grow to its full potential. The Bank and its shareholders see all that Kava has to offer as a country. For example they are rich in exportable goods such as petroleum, coffee, cocoa, spices, bananas, and sugar. Also with the lands beautiful and scenic landscape there is a large opportunity for tourism. Especially within the fishing community as the fishing is Kava is said to be plentiful. Kava also has an abundance of natural gas which is an invaluable resource to some countries and they will pay well for it. One of the most promising qualities of Kava however is the inexpensive yet high quality labor that the country has to offer. Fifty percent of the population is over 15 years old and speaks English as well as some of the other languages that are indigenous to Kava. Their skill set and their eagerness to learn and bring a better quality of life to Kava is a desired skill set to any company. It will mean hard workers. Now the shareholders are very concerned about some of the aspects of putting down roots in Kava. For instance there is always the threat of natural disasters such as, tidal waves, tsunamis, typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, HIV/AIDS outbreaks, petroleum spills and high risk for avian flu. These concerns are all understandable of course. However my job is to remind them that at many of our other locations we have many of the same threats. We have policies to cover every one of these disasters. Also as the country becomes more developed some of these threats like HIV/AIDS will no longer be so large. We will help to educate the community. This is one of the reasons we are attempting to put down roots here. We will help the country in many different areas of their lives. The plan for Kava is to start educating the residents about small business ownerships and partnerships. We already have many interested parties looking to set up tourist areas in Kava. The Bank will help to secure the necessary funding from investors to help build hotels, roads, ports, stores and hospitals. We would also like to put in an airport. Many of our ideas are being met with opposition from some of the residents. We will never be able to make every single person happy but we will need to have 80 percent of the population on our side to begin securing the necessary funding needed to take on this project. We are going around to the villages to hear the resident voice their concerns. The majority of them are for their land. They don’t want us to destroy everything. However by showing them our ideas and also what we have done in other countries they can be sure we believe in conserving the area as much as possible. After all we need it for the exports. Once they are explained to how this can help them to have better futures for their children and grandchildren we are in a better position. Helping to grow Kava into the country it can be will be a very rewarding experience. We will work to help the citizens overcome their fears and to join us in our crusade.

...Decisions in Paradise Paper Chris University of Phoenix MGT 350/Critical Thinking: Strategies in Decision Making August 17, 2009 Critical Thinking in Decision Making: Business Ideas Bill Gates once remarked that he approached business ideas by looking at it through a range of positions: certifying, authorizing, and modifying ---- as he would any of his software programs. The solution, is putting together a personal viewpoint that is conversant by decision-making strategies. A organization then is in essence a dilemma awaiting to be unraveled so it can be put into practice correctly. Recognizing and assessing options is what decision-making is in relation to. In our everyday life, we make decisions that have prejudiced what we initially intended it to be either by practice, urge or by motive. Situating Kava and Toyota Kava is an island in the South Pacific. Primarily a tourist destination, Kava’s economy revolves around this industry. Nik is a student in one of Kava’s universities. ...uninsurable risk a↵ects individual location decisions and portfolio choices, and ultimately how it a↵ects prices in equilibrium. I estimate a version of this model using house price and wage data and provide estimates for risk premia for di↵erent cities, which imply that homes are on average about $20000 cheaper than they would be if owners were risk-neutral. This estimate is over $100000 for volatile coastal cities. Next, I simulate the model to study the e↵ects of financial innovation on equilibrium outcomes. Creating assets that hedge city-specific risks increases house prices by about 20% and productivity by about 10%. The average willingness to pay for completing the market per homeowner is between $10000 and $20000. Welfare gains come both from better risk-sharing and from more e cient sorting of households across cities. ⇤ I am deeply grateful to Patrick Bayer, Andrew Patton, and Peter Arcidiacono for their encouragement and support. ...Ross et al.: Fundamentals of Corporate Finance, Sixth Edition, Alternate Edition III. Valuation of Future Cash Flows 8. Stock Valuation © The McGraw−Hill Companies, 2002 273 CHAPTER Stock Valuation 8 When the stock market closed on July 3, 2001, the common stock of McGrawHill, publisher of fine-quality college textbooks, was going for $67.40 per share. On that same day, stock in General Motors (GM), the world’s largest automaker, closed at $64.72, while eBay, the on-line auction company, closed at $69.16. Since the stock prices of these three companies were so similar, you might expect that the three companies would be offering similar dividends to their stockholders, but you would be wrong. In fact, GM’s annual dividend was $2.00 per share, McGraw-Hill’s was $0.98 per share, and eBay was paying no dividends at all! As we will see in this chapter, the dividends currently being paid are one of the primary factors we look at when attempting to value common stocks. However, it is obvious from looking at eBay that current dividends are not the end of the story, so this chapter explores dividends, stock values, and the connection between the two. I n our previous chapter, we introduced you to bonds and bond valuation. In this chapter, we turn to the other major source of financing for corporations, common and preferred stock. We first describe the cash flows associated with a share of stock and then go on to develop a very famous result, the dividend growth...
