Marketing is defined in many different ways. It depends on how marketing is looked upon and the aspects in which it is thought to be made up of. Wikipedia define marketing as “a societal process that is needed to discern consumers’ wants; focusing on a product /service to those wants, and to mould the consumer toward the product / service….Marketing tends to be seen as a creative industry, which includes advertising, distribution and selling. It is also concerned with anticipating the customers’ future needs and wants, often through market research” (Wikipedia, 2007). MarketingPower.com defines marketing as “an organization function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders” (MarketingPower.com, 2007). As time has went on, people think of marketing in different manners. Amidst the online era, new technology and techniques have been designed and each marketer changes the definition of marketing to suit his or her own preference. Many misinformed definitions have people thinking that marketing, sales, and advertising as synonyms. All people know that this is incorrect even though all these aspects are combined in some way. Personally, marketing is defined as all aspects starting with the idea of the creation of a product through the completion of the sell-through on the floor. Defining all the actions that need to take place before proceeding is advantageous to an organization. All the steps in between are considered the marketing process. Marketing is very important to an organizations success. Knowing the client’s expectations, exceeding them, and building a relationship with them is the key to the success.
