The movie we watched to view love was About Time. The biblical definition of love, from 1 John: 4:7-10, is purposeful commitment to sacrificial action for another. The dictionary definition of love, from Meriam Webster, is a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person. My personal definition of love is when you have strong positive feelings towards someone who you care about. Love is when you care about the person and their safety, you respect them, and you want the best for them in life. You can love someone as a friend, family member, or a significant other. In this movie we see the main character, Tim, find out he can go back in time, to a specific part of his life. He goes back for multiple reasons, but the most important reason …show more content…
I think that he going back to save her really showed his love for her. She was always dating the wrong guys. She got into a fight with her boyfriend at the time. She was drunk, and he let her drive alone to the party after the fight. On the way she got into a car accident and was put into the hospital. Tim goes back to make sure she will be okay and does not get into the car. He ends up telling her that she needs to stay away from him, and find a nice guy to date. When he goes back to present time he notices that his daughter was now a boy. His father then tells him that he cannot go back to before he had children because it changes the circumstances. So again, he goes back to make sure he did everything the same, even though his sister ended up getting into the accident. He makes sure that she knows he loves her, and wants the best for her. Again they talk about how she needs a better boyfriend in her …show more content…
Before his dad dies he goes back to relive old memories with him. His father told him that the key to happiness is to just go along with life, but to live everyday twice- the same exact way. Even after he died, Tim continues to visit him. After he died, Mary wanted to have a third child. Tim knew that having another child would make it so he could not go back to visit his father ever again. Tim had to make the decision to never see his father again or to have another child. He visits his father one last time. They talk about how this will be their last time together. Then he kisses his father. His father said that they can go back in time, for one last thing. It would not change anything if they did everything the same. They went back to when Tim was a little boy and they were taking a walk on the beach. Tim’s willingness to do amazing things for the people he loves is related to Jesus’s love and willingness to do amazing things for us. Jesus saved us by dying on the cross. Before he was crucified, he was asking God if he really had to go through with this because he was scared and did not want to be in pain. Although not all people on Earth were good, or are today, He still died for us. If Jesus did not love us, he would not have died for us, regardless if God wanted him to or

Definition of Love

...Definition of Love Love to me means that you have unconditional feelings for someone or something. Since there is a love for people and love for object or ideas. I will talk about what it means to love in each aspect. When you love someone it means that you have strong unconditional feelings of caring for that person, that you want the best for them and want them to be happy no matter what. That means if they are happier without you then you must let them go if you truly love someone. When you can’t be together for so many reasons its love, between you and your significant other, which brings you together against: all odds, parents, distance, work, and anything that stands between you guys. As people like to say “love makes people do crazy things”, because you will do anything to be with someone; as long as they have the same love feeling. To love someone while married to them means that if the other person wants kids but you don’t, you should just have kids with them because you want to make them happy. The creation of kids creates the ultimate love feeling between parents and children. Just because you claim to love someone doesn’t mean you can’t get mad at them still because they did or said something wrong. Whatever consequence you give them is because you love them and want what is best for them; which is for them to do or say things that are appropriate in the world. Love for objects or ideas is a little different because it’s more about passion. If you...

Definition Of Love

...Making love is more of an intimate activity compared to sex; It signifies intertwining two souls to create one with passion, connecting emotionally and mentally. After love making, you have no regrets. Sex is simply intercourse between two people that is not meaningful and focuses on the genitals and arousals of one another. You’re not emotionally happy with “sex” because there are no emotions attatched to it. It’s simply just for pleasure. The idea of romantic love is “making love”; the idea of self-love is to “sex”. These two concepts are also unlike one another much like how romantic love and self-love differs. Making love is more of an intimate activity compared to sex. Making love signifies intertwining two souls to create one with passion, connecting emotionally and mentally. My Definition of Love

...My Definition of Love Love has so many definitions which it makes impossible to define precisely. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most difficult questions to answer. “I can’t stop thinking about you.” That’s one definition of love. The Bible says “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.” (1st Corinthians 13:5-7). In order for me to give you my best definition of love, I would have to use the four types of love given by the ancient Greek philosophers. They are phileo, the love of friendship; storge, the love of family and relatives; eros, the love of affection and obsession; and agape, the unconditional love. Phileo, the love of friendship, is not sexual in nature. Phileo basically covers everything that has to do with a friendly affection of one person to another. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and their community. Phileo love truly describes friendship and the bonds that are strengthened by shared experiences. Most of us have at least someone that we call best friend. The tender affection we have for them is an example of phileo. Storge means family affection between family members. It is extremely important for all human beings, children and adults. It is natural affection...

Definition Essay On Love

...What does love even mean? It’s a word that I’ve heard and used all my life but it seems like nobody really has the same definition for it. It’s a simple four letter word so how come it’s so difficult to define and to measure and to understand. (1) Love is a powerful emotion, it’s a deep fire like passion inside of you that just can’t be controlled. (2) When you’re in love it’s one of the most exciting, rewarding, scariest things you could possibly do. (3) It hits you like a ton of bricks, like the air just got knocked out of your lungs, like the stinging feeling on your face on a cold winter day. It could possibly be one of the most bittersweet feelings that you experience in your life. It’s like a roller coaster full of ups and downs and turns left to right making you feel sick to your stomach but it’s not always the bad kind of sick feeling it could be the good kind when you’re overfilled with happiness and all you feel is butterflies. I mean I sure felt sick to my stomach whether it was because of those little beautiful butterflies that I shamefully miss so much or the awful heart rending feeling in my gut that brought me down to almost nothing making me feel so crushed and so empty. I really think to myself, how...

Definition Essay: Love

...Love is something that means very different things to different people. For some, love can be purely romantic, or even purely sexual. For others, real love is utterly unconditional and only truly exists between family members, or between people and a deity. And for some people, love is fluid, ever changing, and everywhere, and is felt for family, friends, partners, pets, and even inanimate objects, dead artists, and fictional characters. None of these people would be right or wrong, but one thing is certain: love is the most powerful force in the entire universe. Between partners of any description, be they married or cohabiting, boyfriend and girlfriend, straight or gay, young or old, love is a relationship of mutual understanding and respect. Marriages and partnerships are often built on common ground that people find when they first meet; this can be as deep as sharing religious, philosophical or religious beliefs, or as simple as finding that you love the same film, book, or band. This kind of love is often reliant on some kind of ‘chemistry’: that strange feeling that they give you in the pit of your stomach, and the feeling that nothing in the world is more important to you than enjoying the moment you’re in together. Some people feel that they experience love at first sight, where they know from the minute they set eyes on each other that they want to to be with that person, but something built on common interests and understanding must be stronger. A parent’s love for...

The Definition of Unrequited Love

...Even though most readers find Nick’s feelings towards Gatsby of a more platonic sort; nevertheless, there are several readers who find Nick’s feelings romantic because of the way he speaks, thinks, and acts towards and around Gatsby. The events of their first meeting, lunch date, and Gatsby’s death will help to further prove the romantic desires that can be found deep within Nick’s mind. When they first meet, curiosity sparks almost immediately within Nick, revealing his subtle desires. They first meet face to face at one of Gatsby’s famous parties, though Nick knows not what Gatsby looks like. After Nick has been told, by the man himself that he has been speaking to Gatsby he immediately begins to observe his neighbour. Nick describes Gatsby’s smile as understanding—“…much more than [understanding]. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life.” (p.46). That is merely the beginning of a rather lengthy description that even teenage girls keen on describing men would not feel the need to repeat. The author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, may have wanted the readers to have a vivid image of Mr. Gatsby painted inside their minds, but having Nick as the writer/narrator makes Nick seem a fair bit interested. Later, during that very same conversation, Gatsby excuses himself to take a phone call and the moment Gatsby is out of ear shot, Nick finds himself questioning Jordan Baker. “Who is he?” (p.50), “where is...

My Definition of Love

Do you have a cup of coffee every morning? - Ты выпиваешь чашечку кофе каждое утро? Основными членами вопросительных предложений являются вспомогательный глагол, подлежащее исказуемое, так как их присутствие обязательно. А остальные члены предложения могут и упускаться из предложения. Например: Does he swim? - Он плавает?  Do you like ice-cream? Рассмотрим на примерах: Are you a manager? - Вы менеджер? Can you sing well? - Вы можете хорошо петь?  May...

Definition Essay: What Is Love?

...Name: Topic: Semesters: Class: Professor: Date: What is Love? The idea of love has been an everlastingly indefinable topic. It is a definition and meaning that philosophers, psychologists, and biologists have been seeking since the beginning of time. Wars have been fought over it, while friendships began and have ended because of this concept. However what exactly is love, and why is it important to define this mystery? Are we all slaves of our own minds centered around our physical reactions, or we do we fall in love in the philosophical term? Philosophers have been asking questions such as “why do we need to love” or “what love is” since the beginning of time. When I was younger my mother would read me fairy-tale bed time stories or tales about a Prince Charming rescuing a beautiful process, with the two of them riding off on a horse into the sunset, to live “happily ever after”. However the story always ended there, and the idea of a happily ever after life is never fully described. With the increased divorce rates, and the changing concept of marriage in today’s society, the importance of studying the idea of love, or a happily ever after cannot be ignored....

Definition Essay: What Is Love?

...We associate the word “lover” with someone who is seeking happiness in someone else. The question is why can’t people who love ordinary things such as sports, or a hobby also be lovers. Seeking happiness in someone else is associated with wanting it to be good. For something to be good most people want what’s good to be theirs forever. This connects back to the theme that without wisdom you cannot fully understand love. “That’s because what everyone loves is really nothing other than the good.” (Diotima, 66). What Diotima is trying to explain is that when the good thing becomes his own is when they will have happiness. So then why do we not call everybody lovers or say that everyone is in love? This is because we only associate love with whole...

Definition Essay: Love Is Worth A Thousand Words

...Sometimes the easiest word could be the hardest to express or define such as “love”. A simple word with a vast of meanings. Love is not just a word, in which one could just throw or toss around. Love involves more than that, it is an unconditional feeling in which no one can avoid that could lead anyone to go beyond their own usual actions, do crazy things or committing to an imperfect person one says they love. Love is real, in which everyone experiences the unconditional feeling for another. As well it could be unexplainable but the feeling is there. Just to say that you love someone is not very believable, to know that love is real, it is more of an action rather than just to say. Such as the concept of show don’t tell. Think of it as your...

Definition Essay: Love Doesn T Know God

...Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. -1 John 4:8. This verse is the definition of “love”. Love has various ways of expressing its meaning, but God is the meaning. According to the bible, in Revelations 1:8, it describes God as the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. As well as in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 it states, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always and preserves.” So if God is love, then God is all of these things, and love is God. By this they are one in the same. However, people say and use the word “love”, yet people are not always patient and kind, and people do boast and are angered easily. Conversely God is a part of every person and is in every human being. In addition 1 Corinthians states that our bodies are temples of God and that they are not our own. So with God being a part of people, people can love and show their love. Some of the ways love is expressed is by emotion, words, and actions....

Hum/100

...Ancient Cultures: Love HUM/100 Ancient Cultures: Love My love, I have tried with all my being to grasp a form comparable to thine own, but nothing seems worthy; I know now why Shakespeare could not compare his love to a summer’s day. It would be a crime to denounce the beauty of such a creature as thee, to simply cast away the precision God had placed in forging you. Each facet of your being whether it physical or spiritual is an ensnarement from which there is no release. But I do not wish release. I wish to stay entrapped forever. With you for all eternity, our hearts, always as one (Kolos, 2012). This is the image of love often and initially conjured when we talk about love. However, the word “love” can have a variety of related but distinct meaning in different contexts and cultures. We will look the definition of love and do a brief assessment of how ancient Greek and Romans viewed or definition of interpersonal love in their culture. We will compare their view to our modern day view/definition of interpersonal love. First let us look at our definition of love according to dictionary.com (2012). “Love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for parent, child, or friend. Sexual passion or desire. A person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart.” There were many more definitions addressed representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affections...
