I guess personal responsibility is more of an ethical concept to me rather than a spiritual one.
I have ethical standards by which I live my life~ they might not be the same as someone else’s, they are no more or no less than someone else’s~ they belong to me alone, and are as much a part of who I am as my eye color or my southern drawl...
To me, personal responsibility means that I am going to live my life and do what I think is right no matter the personal consequences...
~ it means that I'm not going to get upset with my daughters absent father, or god, or anyone else about the long hours that I put in providing for and raising her, despite the fact that I haven't been on a date in 6 months and my feet are swollen from 12 hour workdays and cheerleader practice, and pat meetings, and homework, and dishes, and laundry, and yada yada... I will get up and do it again tomorrow, because she is my responsibility... and whether anyone comes to my aid or not in the end she is my child and my job as a mother is to make sure she has as much of what she needs that I can possibly provide to ensure her successful passage into strong, confident, intelligent, witty, sexy, spiritual womanhood...
~ it means that I'm going to do my job to the best of my ability, even when surrounded by coworkers whose priorities are different... that I'm not going to take the easy way out and say, "that's not my job/ my responsibility" when the person responsible is less than responsible. When things need to be done I will see to it that they are being done (on my watch) no matter the extra (and I do mean extra~ 12 hour days turning into 14/16 hour days) effort it takes for me to pull someone else’s slack. It means that even when I go 12 hours without peeing the ball won’t be dropped. (In my field a dropped ball could mean life or death...) Often times at work personal responsibility means that I do what needs to be done because it needs to be done wither it's my job or not, period, because I know if I don't do it might not get done, which is unacceptable and unethical... and I do it with an altruistic heart...

Let us start with the word, personal. Merriam-Webster defines personal, in its adjective form, as “done in person without the intervention of another”. The word, responsibility means “the state at which one is held accountable for one’s conduct and obligations”. ...Personal Responsibility Essay Gen 200 July 28, 2014 Personal Responsibility Essay “Being thoughtful and taking responsibility serves you well, as your accountability is one measure of your success. In our professional and personal lives, most of us typically take responsibility for our actions, words, and attitudes. An occasional “oops” can rapidly put us on a radar that we'd prefer not to be on, irrevocably annoy our student population, or cause a family rift.”  (Zavod, 2014) Personal responsibility is a choice we all have to face when deciding to do the things that will help our future or the lives of those in our care, like my personal responsibility to succeed at college to better support my family. For me, that “oops” could have drastic impacts on our family’s financial well-being. Each person has their own definition of personal responsibility determined by their own background. If one includes financial success in their definition of personal responsibility they need a plan in place for how to achieve financial success. Naturally, there is then a large correlation between personal responsibility, financial success, and the success one has in their education. Each person should have a plan to complete their education and how their own personal responsibility fits in with that goal. Merriam Webster says responsibility is “something that you should do because it is morally right” (Merriam-Webster, 2014). For me going back to school is a personal responsibility...
