Although deinstitutionalization has added to many problems in the criminal justice system, regarding mentally ill inmates, there is no true solution of separating the population into mental health facilities. Instead focus needs to be placed on more constringent training of correctional officers, increased numbers of mental health professionals, and more manageable case loads.
