Rap Game Delirious

...oday, the term "applied mathematics" is used in a broader sense. It includes the classical areas noted above as well as other areas that have become increasingly important in applications. Even fields such as number theory that are part of pure mathematics are now important in applications (such as cryptography), though they are not generally considered to be part of the field of applied mathematics per se. Sometimes, the term "applicable mathematics" is used to distinguish between the traditional applied mathematics that developed alongside physics and the many areas of mathematics that are applicable to real-world problems today. There is no consensus as to what the various branches of applied mathematics are. Such categorizations are made difficult by the way mathematics and science change over time, and also by the way universities organize departments, courses, and degrees. Many mathematicians distinguish between "applied mathematics," which is concerned with mathematical methods, and the "applications of mathematics" within science and engineering. A biologist using a population model and applying known mathematics would not be doingapplied mathematics, but rather using it; however, mathematical biologists have posed problems that have stimulated the growth of pure mathematics. Mathematicians such as Poincaré and Arnold deny the existence of "applied mathematics" and claim that there are only "applications of mathematics." Similarly, non-mathematicians blend applied mathematics...

Delirious New York: Book Review

...DELIRIOUS NEW YORK Rem Koolhaas is a Dutch architect, who now teaches at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. This book was written while he was a visiting professor at the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in New York, and first published in 1978 (The Monacelli Press) right at the advent of his career. He got critical acclaim for his publications even before designing a building. He won the Pritzker prize in 2000. Delirious New York explores the culture of Manhattan as it takes the form of architecture and the popular fantasies behind its unconventional approach to urban design. New York was a city built by chance and the spontaneity was seen in its city life. Assuming the role of Manhattanʼs ghost-writer, Koolhaas calls Manhattan a mythical island, whose land became the testing grounds for the theory of ʻManhattanismʼ. Coney Island: The Technology of the Fantastic As New York grew into a dense metropolis, Coney Island offered to become its resort. It became home to the super-natural where artificiality was embraced and nurtured. Amusement parks emerged and became the laboratories for experimentation. Steeplechase, Luna Park and Dreamland came up with outrageous projects and the technologies to make the experience believable. Here, the idiosyncrasies of the creators helped in the fulfillment of fantasy and reality was reduced to technology and cardboard. The Electric Bathing, Barrels of Love (Steeplechase Park), Luna Parkʼs illusory skyline and the...

Delirium in Icu

...and outside the hospital. With its presence being unknown to many nurses and providers, delirium has significant long term complications that can last well beyond discharge. Noise, medication, and infection are significant in the development and progression of delirium and these are more than abundant within intensive care patients. The importance of nurse’s knowledge cannot be stressed enough regarding the assessment, symptoms, and interventions of delirium, in an effort to decrease its occurrence and the implications thereafter. With the proper assessment and improved nursing interventions, data should display an increase in patient safety, decrease in prevalence, and reduce costs related to longer hospital stays. The state of being delirious occurs with a sudden decrease in a patient’s level of consciousness. It may be accompanied by inattention directly related to the care being given or by a change in cognition. (cite AACN practice alert) There are a variety of possible causes of delirium. These causes include: alcohol withdrawal, sepsis, pneumonia, electrolyte imbalances, liver failure, encephalitis, head trauma, meningitis, the use of many medications and abrupt withdrawal of medications. Most medical diagnosis and their possible complications can lead to some form of delirium. Delirium can manifest in two very different ways, hypoactive and hyperactive. Hypoactive delirium is characterized by a state of mental absence, confusion and inattention, very similar in nature...

In the short story Number 40 we meet the anxious and unbalanced Melissa. Melissa is feeling anxious because she forgets a lot of things, and this time it is her phone. The short story is told through a third person limited narrator, where the narrator follows the forgetful Melissa throughout the story, and the reader is only able to read only her thoughts and feelings (s. 1, ll. 1-2) Melissa is living with her fiancé Simon: “Now they were living together”. “The ring Simon has given her two weeks ago” – “Three neat diamonds caught in three gold claws”. Simon has proposed to her, just two weeks ago. Melissa felt sick at the time, Simon proposed to her (s.3, ll. 84-85) she either felt vile because of the food or maybe she had a bad hunch towards the relationship. Roger Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis Essay

...to miss”, with the “taboo of the old life” looming over him (62). That is to say, Roger knows this would not be allowed if adults were around. Much later in the novel, after he establishes himself as part of Jack’s hunting tribe, Roger learns that Jack is planning to tie up and beat another character for no reason at all. Roger, “received this news as an illumination” and fully realizes that there are, in fact, no adults to keep them from doing horrible things to each other and pondered what this “irresponsible authority” could accomplish (160). At this point the reader can see a shift in Roger. After realizing his freedom, Roger becomes overwhelmingly violent. In killing Piggy with, “delirious abandonment” (180) he exhibits just how heartless he has become. Goulding’s choice of the word delirious is powerful because it conveys that Roger has become numb to the savagery of his actions. Additionally, throwing the boulder onto Piggy ties together a motif of rocks associated with Roger. What started as a suspiciously innocent “throwing to miss” turns into intentional murder with the same object. The size of the rocks Roger throw get larger through the novel, starting as a pebble and ending as a boulder, paralleling his callousness which at the beginning was bottled inside him and by the murder has been magnified. Upon climbing down from castle rock after this incident, “the hangman’s horror clung round him” (182). The tribe boys are scared of him like prisoners scared of their hangman...

The Madness Of Ophelia In Shakespeare's Hamlet

...(Shakespeare). Immediately after her father’s death and Hamlet’s leaving Ophelia began to embrace the effects of her condition. Ophelia displayed many of the usual symptoms and behaviors of someone who suffers from PTSD. Some include emotional and mental detachment, social isolation and loneliness. Although clear to the eye of someone who is familiar with such symptoms, the royal family was already preoccupied with tearing themselves apart leaving Ophelia to her own device. Another condition she suffered from was delerium. Aside from her Post Traumatic behavior, Ophelia became very delirious before her death. “You must sing ‘a- down a-down’- and you ‘call him a-down’- O, how wheel becomes it! It is the false steward that stole his master’s daughter” (Shakespeare 282). These are one of the few songs that she sang without explanation. Her songs was one of the few things to be described as delirious. Others like Gertrude saw her behavior as plain mad, she saw that “ she chanted snatches of old lauds as one incapable of her own distress, or like a creature native and indued unto that element” (Shakespeare). Her constant singing of death, seduction and deception alarmed many but wasn’t stopped in time to save her life. Overall, Ophelia projected many symptoms. Her PTSD and Delirium, if stopped could have been cured and in the end saved her life. The severity of her actions was enough to set off alarms yet still no one tried to help her. Although her drowning is still unknown to...

...Running head: HOURLY ROUNDING DECREASE FALLS, CALL LIGHT USAGE Hourly Rounding Decrease Falls, Call Light Usage and Increase Patient Satisfaction Jacqueline Madison Grand Canyon University Introduction to Nursing Research NRS 433v Diana Nassar August 12, 2012 Hourly Rounding Decrease Falls, Call Light Usage and Increase Patient Satisfaction Hourly rounding is a continuing challenge for hospitals across the United States. What’s effective about this method is that it has brought some positive changes to some Health care facilities. There are three factors that have been constantly tested to improve patient care. These factors are: 1) fall rates 2) call light usage and 3) overall patient satisfaction. Previous researchers have done experiments that may have helped with improving the three factors. Reduction in patients’ injury due to falls is one of the safety goals of the Joint Commission. Research would suggest that patient’s falls can be damaging to the patient, their family members, staff, and can cause increase in health care cost. Prior studies have acknowledged the importance of fall prevention and patient satisfaction in hospital settings. Nurses, who are the primary care-giver for the patients, are the central impact of patient care. Therefore, the researchers depended on the medical-surgical nurse specialists (CNS) and nursing managers (NM) to make sure that all the patients’ needs were met in order to address the factors mentioned...

St. Petersburg In Crime And Punishment

...The City of St. Petersburg as a Symbol in Crime and Punishment Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky takes place almost entirely in the city of St. Petersburg. The city is portrayed as dirty, crowded, and chaotic in the novel. This setting of a disorderly city is used as a twofold symbol. It represents the unhealthy state of society as well as the unhealthy state of Raskolnikov’s delirious mind. In the area of St. Petersburg that Raskolnikov lives in it is “terribly hot out, and moreover it was close, crowded; lime, scaffolding, bricks, dust everywhere, and [the city] had that special summer stench known so well to every Petersburger who cannot afford to rent a summer house” (Fyodor Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment, Vintage Books, p.4)....

Poe, a Man of Mystery

...Poe, a Man of Mystery EN1320 Danielle Waters April 21, 2013 Edgar Allan Poe’s life from beginning to end was shrouded in turmoil and touched with mystery. He was a curious man in life that left much mystery in the wake of his passing. Several theories exist but there is no absolute answer to Poe’s untimely death. He was born January 19, 1908 in Boston, Massachusetts, orphaned at the age of three when his mother passed away and then “went to live with John and Frances Allan, a successful tobacco merchant and his wife, in Richmond, Virginia.” (“Edgar,” 2013, p. 2) He attended the University of Virginia until financial issues forced him to move home. He also attended West Point but was kicked out after only a year for poor management of his obligations. In 1836 Poe married his young cousin, Virginia, when she was age 13. He worked for a few magazines earning himself a reputation as a ferocious critic by writing venomous reviews of his peers. In his writing career he became known as the “Father of the Detective story” forever changing the face of the genre. One of his works, “The Raven,” is one of the best known poems in American Literature. His adored Virginia passed away in 1847 and Poe became overwhelmed with grief. He continued to work but suffered from poor health and struggled fiscally. There has been much debate on how Poe’s final days were spent. Some say he drank himself to death while other theories suggest carbon monoxide poisoning, epilepsy and...

Harry J. Anslinger's The Marihuana Tax Act Of 1937

...Harry J. Anslinger introduced The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 with his main point being that marijuana was a dangerous and criminal drug. Anslinger described how marijuana caused a complete loss of sense of time or value, as well as a sense of place. He explained how marijuana may caused some individuals to laugh uncontrollably but in some cases lead to crime due to the delirious state others might fly into. Anslinger supported his claims using evidence of crimes committed by people who were under the influence of this drug. His first piece of evidence supporting his claim that marijuana lead to cry was of a gang of seven young men who had been responsible for 38 stick-ups. He told another story of a 21 year-old boy who murdered his family while...

Stressone

...life one way or another we all have to deal with stress. Each of us cope with stress in our own way because there are some many different types of stress from self- imposed to environmental, there seems to be no end to it. What determines the extant of the damage done by the effects of whatever stress that is imposed is the ability to cope with, process and or deal with whichever type of stress one has to handle. It is my belief that most stress is self- imposed by that I mean a lot of the problems we face every day are brought on by poor decisions which can lead to undue amounts of stress. Through long periods of isolation and dehumanization I have personally had to deal with some stresses that would have rendered the average person delirious. It is also my belief as previously stated that each and every one of us copes with stress in our own way, what may drive one person crazy may not bother another. There are some people I know that crumble when the slightest thing goes wrong and then there are others who step up when put under pressure. The above really only covers the obvious, there are instances such as some children born with debilitating diseases or say someone who was born blind, they would still have to deal with the disability but learning to cope with it or maybe just absence of stimuli makes it easier to handle, it may also explain their disposition, most people with such disabilities are easy going, there are those few who are angry at their misfortune which...
