...Kathryn Henry Vocal Pedagogy Term Paper 4/27/14 Is it Locked?: The Study of the Temporomandibular Joint and its Effects on Vocal Production In this research paper, I will discuss the temporomandibular joint and its effects on vocal production. The paper begins with a definition of what the temporomandibular joint is, where it sits in the skull, and what its functions are. Following this section will be disorders and treatments of disorders that one may encounter involving the temporomandibular joint. Finally, I will discuss how temporomandibular joint disorders can negatively affect a singer’s vocal production. The Temporomandibular Joint, or TMJ, is a joint located in front of one’s ears on each side of the face. ‘Temporo’ refers to the temple, the bone in the side of one’s head, and ‘mandibular’ refers to the mandible. The joint connects the mandible to the bone on the side of the head. The TMJ allows the mandible to move up and down as well as back when chewing, talking, or yawning. As the mouth opens, the rounded edges of the mandible, called condyles, glide along the socket of the temporal bone. As the mouth closes, the condyles slide back into their original resting positions. The TMJ is a ginglymo-arthrodial joint, meaning that the joint allows forward and backward movements, ginglymoid, as well as gliding movements within narrow limits, arthrodial. The TMJ has a combination of hinging and sliding motions, making this joint among the most complicated of the human...

...of the health care provider not to disclose information. Within this paper I am going to discuss the confidentiality in regards to minors of how it affects them, relate to the facts, discuss the ethical/ legal issues, explain the managerial responsibilities and identify the proposed solutions. When dealing with confidentiality in the healthcare profession the acting provider does not suppose to disclose information. Take minors for example; they are protected under (FERPA) Family Educational Rights Privacy Act. FERPA has been known to protect minors in regards to educational purposes, important files, documents, photography and etc. After the minor reaches the age of 18 their rights are then transferred to them from their parent. Confidentiality is very risky and complicated when dealing with a minor, social workers and other persons involved are very cautious when giving out information about minors. The Social Determinants of Health: Working Conditions as a Determinant of Health

...Working Conditions as a Determinant of Health This summary is primarily based on papers and presentations by Andrew Jackson, Senior Economist, Canadian Labour Congress, and Michael Polanyi Assistant Professor, Saskatchewan Population Health Research and Evaluation Unit, and Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, University of Regina. The presentations were prepared for The Social Determinants of Health Across the Life-Span Conference, held in Toronto in November 2002. The opinions expressed in this publication are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of Health Canada. Current Situation Over the 1980s and 1990s, there has been an ongoing restructuring of the labour market and of employment relationships. The intent of these changes has been to promote productivity and competitiveness, as opposed to promoting a worker-centred agenda of “good jobs” (Lowe, 2000). In Canada, only two-thirds of the employed workforce are in “standard” salaried jobs with no defined end date (mostly provided by large firms and the public sector). In this shrinking core job market, workers who have survived layoffs, privatization and contracting-out are generally working longer and harder. Employers have tried to increase profitability and competitiveness and to contain budgets by boosting productivity. This has been accomplished largely by increasing workloads. For example, in the health sector, fewer nurses, social workers and other health professionals must now deal...
