By a show of hands how many of you know or have heard of Thurgood Marshall, Phylicia Rashad, Taraji P. Henson, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Debbie Allen, and Chadwick Boseman. These are the highly successful African Americans in our society that all have one thing in common, they all attended Howard University. The reasons why I want to attend Howard University is because of its background, social life, and offers all that I want. Howard University(H.U) is a Historically Black College University founded in 1876. The federally private university is located in Washington DC, two miles from the White House. H.U has awarded, in history more than 100,000 degrees in arts, sciences, and humanities areas. With a urban environment, the campus is about 258 acres wide. The mascot is the Bison with a student population that is over 10,000 a year since 2015 according to Us News. …show more content…
is able to connect with people all around the world, which how I came across the college. The school has a variety of events that appeal to many different students which I think is the main reason people love the college so much. For instance the biggest event of the year is Homecoming. This is a week long festival with different activities everyday. Many artists even perform at the festival making it known as “The Black Coachella”, providing entertainment for the students but also the community. With the dozens of majors to choose from, the main reason I hope to attend H.U is because of the School of Law program. In the Future I want to become a Immigration Lawyer and help those who wish to come here for a better life. H.U has many offers such as undergraduate, graduate and even doctorate which all apply to my future goals. Not only that I want to also have the experience of attending an HBCU and see what really makes it

...Brief History of General Oliver O. Howard General Oliver O. Howard, a Civil War hero was born on November 8, 1830 in Leeds, Maine and died October 26, 1909 in Burlington, Vermont. He served as organizer and head of the Freedmen’s Bureau in (1865-72) and founder of Howard University. He used his position in the Freedmen’s Bureau to fight for, protect, and create educational possibilities, and a better way of life for the freedmen. Howard University gets its name from him and the Howard University Hospital, as we know it today was called "Freedman's Hospital.” He became the third president of the University, but resigned to go back to the military. The military was his love and in his blood. This historic occasion symbolises how Australia conducted its foreign relations with ‘East’ and ‘West’ during the Howard Era.
