In everyday languages and lingo, imperialism tends to be a vague term with implications that often make it an epithet of rather indiscriminate abuse. Yet it is still a term that students of history should not be afraid of using, provided they do so with some care. In a universal sense imperialism means the exercise of power by one state or one people over another. It is acceptable to talk about the expansion of ancient Rome at the expense of its neighbors as ‘Roman imperialism’ or to talk about ‘Spanish imperialism’ in America in the sixteenth century. U.S. imperialism is very key and important to how our country will remain a strong country among the other countries. American imperialism has been a part of United States history ever since the American Revolution.
The United States have been expanding their borders beyond that with which they started. This is a difficult thing to gauge with the United States because since the very beginning of our history, the United States have been a conquering nation, an expanding empire. Imperialism is practice by which powerful nations or people seek to expand and maintain control or influence over weaker nations or peoples. Throughout the years there have been many instances where the Americans have taken over other people countries; almost every time we go into we have taken over a new piece of land. The Americas first taste of imperialism came about five hundred years ago when Columbus came to America. We fought the pleasant inhabitants and then took over their land making them slaves. Americans over the years have been known to become almost selfish, no matter how much we have we will never be happy until we control the free world. The United States today does not seem interested in direct territorial control of the rest of the world, in contrast to the classic stage of

...Freud believed that humans went through a series of stages in psychosexual development. Passing through these stages required the id's impulses to be controlled and resolved by the ego. However if the impulses were not satisfactorily resolved then the lingering unconscious conflicts could lead to psychological problems in later life. In the Oral Stage (birth to 18 months) the child is focused on the mouth as a way of seeking pleasure because of its requirement for nursing. If the child's weaning is traumatic, in later life any unresolved conflicts may manifest as a preoccupation with oral activities such as smoking, drinking, eating or bite his or her nails or chew pencils and pens. The Anal Stage (18 months to three years) is a time in which pleasure is based on eliminating and retaining bowel movements and gaining control over them. In terms of conflicts during this stage, the end result can be an obsession with cleanliness, perfection, and control (anal retentive) or they may become messy and disorganized slobs (anal expulsive). During the Phallic Stage (ages three to six) the attention witches to the genitals as boys and girls learn that they are differences between the genders and become aware of the similarities and differences between them and their parents. Freud believed that during this stage boys develop unconscious sexual desires for their mothers and come to see their fathers as rivals for her attention and affection. He also believed that boys develop a fear...

...Tech Update For my tech update, i chose a topic in which i have had personal run-ins with. I HATE going to the movie theaters, especially here in Cookeville where the choices are limited, and finding out that the movie i want to watch is only offered in 3-D or RealD. Wearing the glasses give me a headache, and it takes forever for my eyes to focus. My mind is constantly aware of me watching this 3-D movie and i cannot enjoy it. My mother has actually had to leave the movie for the images making her sick, and during a movie i was very excited to see. I have been searching for a solution and finally found one. They are called 2-D glasses. They convert the 3-D images back to normal so that you do not have to suffer through flashing images, headaches, and nausea. I have a pair, and while in the movie theater, it is just like wearing a regular pair of light tinted sunglasses. And they look exactly like the 3-D glasses as well so no one will ever know, if you so desire. How it Works: It is an extremely simple solution. 3-D images work because two separate images are displayed onscreen at the same time making the screen blurry, and each lense blocks out a different image, causing the illusion of a 3 dimensional shape in theaters. Well with 2-D glasses, both lenses block the same image, so that this blurry film, now becomes 2 dimensional film once again. A picture simulation is added at the end of this report. A gentleman named Hank Green designed these because his wife could...

...Committee: United Nations General Assembly Topic: Kashmir- Is it a symbol of failure of United Nations Machinery Country: Germany Delegate: Ruchi Gupta Since the partition of British India into India and Pakistan in 1947, the Kashmir conflict between them has become intractable. India first referred the case of Pakistani aggression in Kashmir to the United Nations Security Council under Article 35 of the UN Charter on January 1, 1948. This move was directed towards protecting India’s territorial integrity. United Nations was involved in mediating the Kashmir conflict from 1948 through 1965. Later, at the end of the Third Pakistan- India war of 1971, Pakistan and India signed the Simla Agreement in 1972 which emphasized the adoption of a bilateral framework to solve the crisis. UNSC resolution 47 of 1948 recommended Pakistan to withdraw all its tribesmen and Pakistani nationals. It also recommended Indian forces to be reduced to minimum strengths to maintain law and order so as to later hold a UN supervised plebiscite in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir to determine the aspirations of her people. But Pakistan never vacated and later India also backed out. As a result the referendum never went through and UN declaration could not be implemented. Germany agrees that the Kashmir issue should be undertaken bilaterally as “one spark” could be disastrous for the entire region. Germany has always supported negotiated settlement of the Kashmir issue between Pakistan and...

...INTRODUCTION World is a storehouse of energy. And according to energy conversion law, energy neither be created nor be destroyed but can be transformed from one form to another. But we are wasting resources that can produce energy as if they are limited. Humans are able to generate approximately 150W of power while riding bicycle. However, this power goes waste without any use. If this is making use of this energy, would be able to power many electronic devices. A dynamo or an alternator can be used for harvesting the energy generated by a cycle rider while riding. We can charge mobile phones or a small lighting device with the power. Not only in bicycle but also in alternator bikes, cars and exercise bikes use this principle. Bicycle generators are mini-power stations, that allow you to convert human effort into electricity. They have been around since at least the early 1900s, when they used during WWI to power field radio equipment. A bicycle generator can be a very efficient, inexpensive and easy to construct. Portable charger are used to charge electronic devices, almost all electronic device user’s have a portable charger. Portable charger is like a portable battery you can plug your phone in, to charge it when you don’t have access to an electrical outlet or USB port on computer. In this research I will use a regular bicycle to be the power source in a portable charger for the use to charge a cellular phone. ...My study skills are horrible but this time around I plan on trying to focus more and try not to study all at the last minute so that ill have plenty of time to review all material.   My time-management skills are pretty good. I don't like rushing to get things done, so I set a schedule so that everything gets completed.   I already have some college level experience so I know what my papers and assignments should look like.   With my first school I lacked the motivation. I was just going to school just because. I didnt have no real purpose either. This time around im more motivated because I want to complete this so that my son will see that he can do it to!   This is definitely not an obstacle for me because I love to write papers, and just doing my assignments. It motivates me more when I know I got it done and its college-level and on time.   Math is my weaker subject. So I plan to over come this by studying harder and receiving help from a couple of tutors and my instructors.   Test taking is also a strong skill for me so I tend not to worry that much about big test or test at all.   This obstacle is not really an obstacle for me. I am knowledgeable when it comes to computer and computer programs.   This is always an obstacle because I really do not like school, but I know I need school to get a better career. I plan to overcome this by staying positive, and working hard so that I do not fall behind or get...

...I prefer thongs for butt flossing; they're much more fashionable and attractive. I used to love staring at the girls' thongs in high school during class. I noticed that I saw the most thongs in middle school, the next most in high school, and then the least in college. You would probably think that it would be the other way around but alas, only women know why they do what they do. I could probably speak at length about my experiences with looking at girls' thongs while going through each year of school. Every guy reading this knows that it was just too much all at once for us teenage boys to handle. Going through puberty, being horny as fuck, and developing sexual and romantic feelings for girls that used to have cooties was intensely interesting and enjoyable at the time. For the girls to then place their newfound sexuality right there in our faces in school each day by wearing thongs was just incredible. Sadly, the proliferation of thongs did not continue unabated up through college and they went the way of the dinosaur, the bald eagle, and boy bands as far as sightings were concerned. If you really needed a fix, you could always go to the catholic school dances each Friday night where all of the out-of-control 7th grade White girls from my town and the town over would flood the gym with their thongs, lip gloss, and spaghetti straps on. The chaperones never used to check for butt cheek bifurcation or say much about their dress code and wouldn't kick the girls out for acting...

Carvin vs. Arkansa Power and Light

...Case Study 4 CARVIN vs. ARKANSA POWER AND LIGHT, 14 F.3d 399, 1993 U.S. Court of Appeals for Eighth Circuit You be the Judge By: Jenny Wagner December 23, 2009 Did the easement relieve Arkansas Power and Lights from liability for flooding? Yes, Arkansas Power and Light should not be held liable for damage to property cased by flooding where an easement existed. In 1923-1947 Arkansas Power and Light (AP&L) constructed several dams on two Arkansas lakes, Hamilton and Catherine. AP & L obtained “flood easements” on property adjoining the lakes. AP&L sold lake side property and kept the easement in force. These flood easements permitted AP&L to “clear of trees, brush, and other obstruction and to submerge by water” certain acreage, which was described exactly, AP&L properly recorded the easements and when the current landowner bought lakeside property they were aware of the documents (Beatty, 2009, p. 455). In May of 1990, extraordinarily heavy rains caused water to reach the highest levels ever recorded. To prevent flooding to a wider area, AP&L opened the gates of Carpenter Dam causing Lake Catherine to flood which caused damage to several houses built on AP&L’s easement. Several home owners’s subsequently sued AP&L for causing the damage. AP&L should not be held liable for the damage caused by the flooding because the sole purpose for having the easements was to allow AP&L to flood the property. An easement gives one person the...
