El desarrollo y el crecimiento de General Motors
General Motors es un fabricante de automóviles y camiones fundado en 1908 y con sede central en Detroit (Míchigan), Estados Unidos. Durante el siglo XX y gran parte de la década del 2000 fue el primer grupo industrial de producción de automóviles, perdiendo su liderazgo en 2009 como producto de una fuerte crisis que desembocó en la quiebra de General Motors Corporation y dando lugar a la fundación de General Motors Company. Tras esta reestructuración, GM conseguiría reubicarse en tercera posición tras la japonesa Toyota y la Alemana Volkswagen. Ese liderazgo perdido, finalmente sería recuperado en 2011, como producto de una fuerte recesión en Japón producto de un desastre natural, que haría perder a Toyota su corto liderazgo a nivel mundial. Según la Fundación Wiki media, Inc.

En 1909, GM adquirió la Rapid Motor Vehicle Company de Pontiac, Michigan, el predecesor de GMC Truck. Un Rapid se convirtió en el primer camión en conquistar el Pikes Peak en 1909. Debido a la adquisición de estas marcas Duran se vio afectado a tal grado que en 1910 perdió la compañía por deudas con la banca. En esa época en el año 1912 ayuda a la creación de Chevrolet. En el año 1915 regresa a la dirección de GM; un año más tarde Chevrolet pasa a ser parte de GM. Entre los años cincuenta y sesenta logró una cuota del 50% en el mercado automotriz norteamericano y contaba con 800.000 empleados convirtiéndose en la empresa más grande de los Estados Unidos. Durante la segunda guerra mundial GM produjo armamento, vehículos y aviones. Eso le respaldo en la crisis del 2009 para lograr el apoyo del gobierno
