Decisions in Paradise Part 1 My name is Nik and my first assignment with Wilson Supply is to analyze, synthesize and prescribe a business analyses to establish a greater presence in the island country of Kava. That is good for Wilson and good for the people of Kava. While holding to our founder Chris Morales commitment to do what is right and the Wilson mission statement of community which states, “We support the communities in which we operate and encourage our people to be active in civic and social life.” Kava is located in the South Pacific and has many resources including petroleum, coffee, cocoa, spices, bananas, sugar, tourism, fishing and natural gas as well as inexpensive quality labor. Although Kava is rich with resources they are also plagued with problems including tidal waves, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, HIV/AIDS, petroleum spills and the avian flu. In order to establish a greater presence in Kava we must first analyze all problems and issues that we will face. To do this we must use the first step in the formulation of the problem which is to define the problem, define goals and evaluate the effects of the problem. One tool used in this process is brainstorming and research. Being new to the country I will rely on the knowledge of the government, business and community of Kava to identify problems that can be addressed and those that can not. Problems that can not be controlled or prevented include tidal waves, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes. Although they are uncontrollable the effects of these disasters can be minimized by Wilson investing products and training to the local people on how to build sound structures and flood and fire prevention.
