...GDP- The GDP is a term used to measure economic progress and is calculated by the sum of all goods produced in a country during a year. The GPD only measures the goods and services made within a country. The GPD does not include profits made by overseas companies (O.C. Ferrell, G Hirt, F Ferrell 18). GDP per capita- The GDP per capita is a term used to measure the economic progress of the average citizen of a country. The GDP per capita is an approximation of the value of goods produced per person in a country, and is calculated by dividing the countries GPD by the total number of people in the country (Web Finance, Inc. 1). In 2003 U.S. CIA intelligence had information that Saddam Hussein, an enemy of the United States and dictator of Iraq had legitimate programs to build weapons of mass destruction, and was planning to pass those weapons onto the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization. U.S. intelligence believed that Al-Qaeda would ultimately smuggle those weapons into the United States and violently murderer millions of Americans (Lobe 1). To prevent such an atrocity from occurring in the United States, former President George W. Bush decided that the only course of action against these murderous terrorists was to defeat them abroad before they could attack us at home (Bush 7). On March 18th, 2003 the United States launched operation Iraqi Freedom. The goal of this operation was to remove Saddam Hussein from power, prevent Al-Qaeda from obtaining weapons of mass destruction...

Ice Cream Dessert

...Chapter I Introduction Ice cream is a frozen dessert usually made from dairy products, such as milk and cream, and often combined with fruits or other ingredients and flavors. Most varieties contain sugar, although some are made with other sweeteners. In some cases, artificial flavorings and colorings are used in addition to the natural ingredients. Philippines’ version for ice cream: Sorbetes is usually produced from unknown factories and sold from carts that roam the streets, exposing it to pollution. Thus, it is also called dirty ice cream; though it is not really dirty as the name implies. Kids love ice cream, and so do grown-ups, but to indulge in this frozen delight can mean a lot of fat and calories, depending on the choices. The calories in a cup of ice cream can vary anywhere from 180 to 600, depending on brand, fat content, sugar content, and flavor. Nonfat or fat-free ice creams contain virtually no fat: vegetable gums are added to make them creamy and mixtures are made in soft serve machines to whip in additional air and ice crystals. Most nonfat ice creams contain 90 to 100 calories per half cup but not all, leaving health-conscious consumers, who avoid calories and fat, fewer options, or none at all. A newly industrialized country, the Philippine economy has been transitioning from one based on agriculture to one based more on services and manufacturing. Despite this, the agricultural sector employs close to 32% of the country's total labor force of...

...One thing is for certain: I love Tasti D-Lite’s tiramisu “frozen dessert. Nothing beats the feeling you get when you walk into a “Tasti D,” impulsively looking to the back to discover the two flavors of the day, and one of them just perfectly fits your mood. Every day, Tasti D offers four frozen dessert flavors. There is always Dutch Chocolate and French Vanilla, either of which is suitable as a last resort. The real points, however, are won by the other two flavors, which are chosen each day from a list of over 100 innovative flavors plastered on the wall. This lottery feature makes eating frozen dessert not only delicious, but surprising and nerve-racking! Tasti D frozen dessert is essentially frozen yogurt, but, for legal reasons presumably, cannot be referred to as such. The special formula reduces the caloric and fat content of the frozen dessert to a fraction of your everyday frozen yogurt, making eating at Tasti D not only delicious, surprising, and nerve-racking, but also healthy! And best of all, as its website proudly proclaims, it’s kosher, as well! Tasti D was started in New York about a decade ago and received instant notoriety (it’s “New York’s favorite dessert!”), and some of the original, more popular stores publish the all-important flavor schedule on a website. To me, though, that’s akin to telling sending a five year old an e-mail on Christmas Eve listing the presents he’s going to receive the next morning. I like to imagine that until the moment I...

Rhubarb Pie Is a Dessert. Therefore, Whoever Eats Rhubarb Pie Eats a Dessert.

... many times one has lost (or won), the chances on the next roll/throw are exactly the same. 29. Raising a child is like growing a tree. Sometimes violent things, such as cutting off branches, have to be done to force the tree to grow straight. Similarly, corporal punishment must sometimes be inflicted on children to force them to develop properly. Weak Analogy. The biggest problem with it is that trees don’t have emotions that can be damaged by violence, like children do. 30. The Book of Mormon is true because it was written by Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith wrote the truth because he was divinely inspired. We know that Joseph Smith was divinely inspired because the Book of Mormon says that he was, and the Book of Mormon is true. Circular argument. Joseph Smith validates the truth of the Book of Mormon and the Book of Mormon validates what Joseph Smith says, so the argument goes in a circle. 31. Rhubarb pie is a dessert. Therefore, whoever eats rhubarb pie eats a dessert. This is a deductive argument by definition. It might be construed as a circular argument, since the premise and conclusion basically state the same thing. 32. The vast majority of car accidents occur within twenty miles of one's home. Apparently it is much more dangerous to drive close to home than far away from home. Either Missing the Point or Suppressed Evidence, or maybe False Cause. The reason that accidents occur close to home is that people often relax and don’t......

My Favorite Dessert: Phatty Cakes

...In February of 2008, I visited a tiny restaurant by the name of Cakes&Ale. Accompanied by local Chefs and Mixologists, I had no idea what I was in store for. We ordered several small plates to share, beers, and a few desserts. Amongst the desserts was a small plate with 3 cream-filled cookies called “Phatty Cakes”, that to me, resembled little debbie's oatmeal pies. Skeptical, I picked one up and took a bite. Contrary to my preconceived notions, this little delicious treat turned out to be a marscarpone filled gingerbread whoopie pie. Soft gingerbread cookies with a sweet yet savory marscarpone filling, that almost melts in your mouth. After my initial visit, I would visit Cakes&Ale solely for the infamous “Phatty Cakes”. At 3 cakes for $6, I would stock up buying over a dozen little treats. And no, I never bothered to share, nor did I bother to tell anyone where I got them; they were truly my little secret. After years of consuming Phatty Cakes, I had to know who was behind the tiny delicious treat. Pastry Chef, Cynthia Wong was the mastermind behind this decadent little treat. “The 36-year-old Southerner has held a lot of jobs in the Atlanta food industry. She was the production manager for Via Elisa Fresh Pasta, a food stylist for the TBS program “Dinner & a Movie” and even a food reviewer for Creative Loafing. But she has found her metier at Billy Allin’s Cakes & Ale restaurant.”( Kessler 2010) In 2011, the Pastry Chef behind my favorite dessert, took her...

Background of the Study In Western culture, dessert is a course that typically comes at the end of a meal, usually consisting of sweet food. The word comes from the French language as “dessert” and this from Old French “desservir” which means “to clear the table” and “to serve”. Common desserts include cakes, cookies, ice-cream, and candies. Fruit may also be eaten with the dessert. The word dessert is most commonly used for this course in U.S., Canada, Australia, and Ireland, while sweet, pudding or afters may be alternative terms used in the UK and some other countries. In Russia, breakfast foods such as Bliny, Oladi, and Syrniki served with honey and jam are also popular as desserts. In England, the term pudding might be used among the Upper and Upper-middle classes, with dessert only used if the course consists of fruit. Room for Dessert & Case Summary

...Room for Dessert & Case Summary Situation This case presents a business plan for a startup company called "Room for Dessert" (RFD), which is a fine dining restaurant focused on serving a niche market that includes desserts and beverages such as tea, wine and spirits. RFD has created a business model which provides a strategy to differentiate itself from typical fine dining restaurants by offering an unpretentious atmosphere focused on serving affordable, high-quality desserts. The company expects to serve areas of high traffic, such as downtown Boston, and will target college graduates and professionals who earn a significant amount of income and enjoy socially interactive environments. From a venture capitalist perspective, there are several appealing and unappealing markets for RFD: Appealing Markets • "Unconcerned consumers": those who generally not concerned with health and nutrition and therefore seek out decadent desserts • "Vacillating consumers": those consumers who are moderately concerned with health and nutrition but are driven by taste when selecting restaurants • "Upscale urban singles and couples without children": generally have sufficient income and white-collared occupations and are socially driven Unappealing Markets • "Committed consumers": those are remain health conscious; generally will not seek out bakeries and dessert-oriented restaurants • Consumers with less disposable income: will not be...

My Favorite Dessert

...Strawberry Shortcake: My favorite dessert What better way to conjure up the simplicity of youth than by memories of my favorite dessert-- strawberry shortcake. The first thought that comes to mind when I think of my favorite dessert is, my grandmother Essie Tolen many of happiest childhood memories come from the kitchen. When I became sad or depressed due to the abandonment of my mother. My grandma knew exactly what dessert to bake to put a smile on my face and comfort my heart. It is a dessert of both meager origins and uncomplicated design. In fact, the basic recipe is so perfect in its original form that few variations have been made and sustained overtime. Very much like the best memories of my childhood, strawberry shortcake is delicious in its pure, unassuming simplicity. The origin of this delicious dessert dates back at least as far as the 1500s, but the evolution of strawberry shortcake is somewhat uncertain. However, records do reveal strawberry shortcake is a European invention. The "short" of the shortcake name derives from the process of adding of shortening or butter to dough to make it tender. Strawberry shortcake parties became popular in the United States around 1850, as a celebration of the coming of summer. The strawberry fever caught up with people as the timing of introducing the dessert clicked and the demand kept increasing every year. Made of fresh ingredients in a few simple steps, it is no wonder strawberry shortcake is so...
