“There is nothing like Australia”

G’ Day mates, and welcome to Australia. As the tourist board of Australia would say, “There is nothing like Australia” (Australia) but The Australian bush poet, Dorothea Mackellar , said it best in her poem "My Country" with an affirmation that speaks for all Australians.
"I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror - The wide brown land for me!"
Dorothea Mackellar [ (Baskerville, 2009) ]

You could easily spend three to four weeks discovering all of Australia. However if time were limited, then a short weeklong “walkabout” to the area of your choice would do.
Australia is divided into six states each with a different landscape and cultural difference: New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia.

Prepare for your Australian trip, by learning about the currency; how to place a phone call; and what to do if a medical or safety emergency happens. Approximately, 85 percent of the people of Australia live in the southeastern quarter of the country, especially in large cities along the coast. The vast interior of Australia is too dry to support a large population, and few people live there. The eastern Highlands, sometimes called the Great Dividing Range because their slopes divide the flow of the rivers in the region. Australia lies between the Indian and South Pacific oceans. Australia is often referred to as being “down under” because it lies entirely within the Southern Hemisphere. (Scott Fetzer Company, 1987)

Australia as Study Destination

...around 300,000 students from over 100 countries across the world are found heading to Australia for their studies. Australia is also home to five out of the 25 most livable cities across the world. Insofar as Nepalis students are concerned, the country had stood third after the United Kingdom and the United States in the list of most sought-after academic destinations just a few years ago. Now, however, it has climbed to the top spot. The fact that Australia boasts world-class academic institutions, part-time and post-study work facilities and a relatively safe environment insofar as the students’ investment is concerned are what have made it the most preferred place for higher study at present. Records from Nepal’s Department of Scholarship at the Ministry of Education show that of the around 15,000 No Objection Certification Letters have been issued for 64 countries in the last eight months of the current fiscal year, 8,959 have been for Australia alone. The number of Nepali students opting for an Australia n education had soared in the year 2007-2009, but dropped significantly thereafter when the Australia n government issued stricter visa regulations for students. The adoption of the streamlined visa policy (SVP) two years ago, however, has raised figures once more. It was in order to ensure that only genuine students are given opportunities to pursue higher education that the Australia n government had introduced the new visa policy for international students on March...

This includes the rise in business and leisure travel which was driven by competitive travel packages, discounted rates of different airlines and agencies, and heightened local tourism campaigns, over a backdrop of a generally stable economy. The latest government data shows that in the first eleven months of 2011, international arrivals reached 3,522,887 or a 12.6% increase over the same period a year ago, even topping the total arrivals of 3,520,471 recorded in the full year of 2010. In 2010 Barbados received 532,180 tourists among those UK, USA and Canada were the main one 181,054, 134,969 and 72,345 respectively. (Appendix 1) Since Barbados in the past was a British colony, UK tourists provide about one-third of all overnight visitors to the island. In addition, interest in cricket is one of the historical echoes of Barbados. There are two major factors that affect demand in the hotel industry. First factor is economic. Smooth running of any business depends not only on the economic stability of the country but on worldwide economic health in a whole, in particular those countries, like Barbados, where hospitality is one of the major industries. Hospitality industry is highly sensitive to economic market conditions. When economy is down, it impedes instantly business activity that as a result diminish business travels and tourism activity. During economic instability people tend to spare more and avoid unnecessary expenses like for instance leisure or holiday trips. As Barbados is a reputable vacation destination and the business-oriented country because of its offshore regime, economic cycle is one of the major factors for the Accra Beach Hotel those revenues rely on business and tourist customers. ...From a marketing standpoint, the purchase of the mentioned hotel chain in Italy would do nothing but expand our hotel brand. Italy would be where we break into the European market, hopefully to continue to expand globally in the future. Thousands of U.S. tourists visit Italy every year. Seeing our hotel name as a local hotel option would give U.S. tourists a sense of familiarity in a foreign location. They know what to expect from our brand and that’s what they should receive in every one of our hotel locations. We have built the reputation we have because of the quality of our hotels and the service our guests receive. They’ve come to expect this! European customers may not be familiar with our hotel brand. We need to work to build the same reputation in Europe that they have built within the U.S. Because we are a U.S. based hotel brand looking to break into the European market, we should work with local PR and Marketing professionals since they know the area and people better than we do. These individuals can help spread the word of our hotel brand coming to Italy and raise interest in the brand. We should work on building good relationships with local journalists, and newspaper/magazine editors; this could benefit us in getting our hotel featured in their publications, which would be seen by thousands of potential customers all over Europe. When opening the new Italy hotels, we could host grand opening events to attract the local community to view our hotels. This could...

It is the largest country in Oceania, and most of its people live in the east of the country by the sea. Because the climate there is warm and comfortable, many people spend vocations there. And there are many tourist attractions. The environment there is very suitable for many kinds of animals and plants. There are many various loveable animals like koalas, kangaroos and a variety of birds in Australia. We can see many animals we have never seen in Taiwan. Kangaroos are very lovely and representative animals of Australia. We could not only see kangaroos but also touch the kangaroo. That would be a memorable experience! “Sydney Opera House” is one of the most famous buildings in the world. The appearance of the building is like a seashell. As the most significant landmark of Sydney even Australia, it is the most photographed place.  Many world-class plays are shown in it. Another famous tourist attraction I want to visit in Australia is “Ayers Rock (Uluru)”. It is a magnificent landscape and be listed in world heritage. Why Refugees Should Leave To Australia

...Introduction Imagine trying to escape your war torn country, on a boat that's nearly falling apart, crowded, low resources and rough seas. Only to find that the safe destination you were willing to sacrifice your life for is a country that is willing to turn you back to the war torn country that you have just fled. This is the harsh reality of many refugees trying to seek asylum. Today I will be explaining why refugees that are in danger in their countries should be allowed access to Australia, and why they shouldn't be placed into detention centres once in Australia. Body Refugees that are trying to seek asylum in Australia need tremendous help as the Government policies that are in our country today are not working to help these helpless people but more to lock them up. The result has been a policy that is inhumane and ineffective and in many cases a violation of the international human rights law. These people do not see this country as an easy life but a country that will provide them with freedom. This is a story from one of the detention centres about a young girl....

I Am Australian Persuasive Speech

...Persuasive Speech How should Australia be seen through the eyes of tourists? These two contemporary texts portray a captivating example of what Australia has to offer – breathtaking attractions and the pride and unity in its people. Through the use of metaphors, repetition, and iconic imagery, I vigorously believe that these texts will draw many adventurous people to this beloved country of ours. “I Am Australian” is an amazing text that exhibits the unity and pride in one’s national identity to this great country. Its clever use of metaphors such as ‘We are one, but we are many’ symbolises the multiculturalism that holds our country together. However, more meanings can be inferred from this phrase, such as the unity and mateship in which...

Asylum Seekers

...Australia should accept asylum seekers. Discuss. Introduction: In recent years, the asylum seeker issue has been an increasing interest in Australia with many opposed opinions that led a much debated question is whether Australia should accept the asylum seekers or not. In this essay, I attempt to defend the view that the asylum seekers should be accepted into Australia because of the following reasons. Body: Firstly, Australia is one of the many countries that signed the 1951 Refugee Convention. It states that if people are found to be escaping persecution, they are to be allowed into the country. In order to comply with its responsibilities, Australia must increase its intake / start accepting refugees. A second incentive is Australia has the means to accommodate large numbers of people. As sung in the Australian National Anthem, Australia has “boundless plains to share” with “those who’ve come across the seas”. By accepting and welcoming people from around the world, all walks of life Australia will become a stronger and richer nation. By not allowing asylum seekers to integrate in Australian society, we are missing out on the opportunities to build our country. Finally, the financial. While some would argue that Australia should not accept asylum seekers because it is a huge financial burden. Australia current method of dealing with asylum seekers in offshore detention centres is far more expensive that the costs of educating and integrating these people. Although there...

Wildlife in Australia

...reside in “the land down under” known as Australia. People travel to see a variety of attractions that destinations offer like beaches and architecture. However, the country of Australia offers a plethora of sites, culture, history, diverse environments, and wildlife. Some of Australia’s wildlife include reptiles, marsupials, mammals, and marine life. Additionally, some of that wildlife is endemic to Australia, which adds to the exhilaration and beauty of the country. The country of Australia consists of six states and two territories (Kalman 2008). Many of the wildlife species live in their respective habitats specific to each territory just as any other animals or creatures. The reptiles of Australia include snakes. Many snakes exist in this country, and some of the world’s deadliest snakes live here. According to Rolf Smith, “thirteen of the most poisonous snakes and spiders in the world live in Australia.” (Smith 2010). Watching where one steps would prove to be most important while trekking throughout. Australia’s terrain makes it home to many snakes, which makes awareness so critical when visiting. However, the fact that so many reptiles and snakes live there certainly adds to the excitement of visiting. Marsupials are yet another species of wildlife that live in Australia. Some of the marsupials abundant in Australia include kangaroos, wallabies, and koalas. Kangaroos make up a large population in Australia where today a kangaroo industry exists and...

By hosting a successful major event, a city is able to demonstrate technical and organizational abilities, and even winning the opportunity to act as the host city signals success. However, by taking on that responsibility, in an event such as the Olympics, you run into the possibility that the event may not go the way you planned it. Either way, hosting the Olympics is an opportunity that many tourist destinations will not let pass them by. The Australian Tourist Commission received US $6.7 million from the Australian Government over four years, to maximize the tourism opportunities presented by the Sydney Olympic Games. It assisted official ticket agents, appointed by each National Olympic Committee, to develop travel packages that featured tours to various parts of Australia. Many of the agents had little prior knowledge of Australian destinations and were working with the Australian Tourist Commission for the first time. This, new relationships were formed and...
