Teaching in a More Powerful Manner

...is telling them what they need to know. We need to be sure that our teaching is intentional and relevant. If we want our students to do the best they can in our classroom then we need to teach in a more powerful manner. All children were raised differently and will learn math differently. It is our job as teachers to learn as much as we can about our students and their learning style preference. Some children prefer listening and some children are visual learners. Other children may prefer a tactile experience in the classroom. “Teachers must remember that while there are preferred input and output modalities, all children still need to develop their non preferred modalities. All these modes of input and output need to be used during lessons so that each child has the opportunity to use his or her strength and modality” (Tucker, 2006). It is our job to assess our students. We need to get to know them make sure that they know we care about them. We also need to be sure that our students know that we care about them and want them to succeed. When our children know that we have high expectations for them they are more able to reach our expectations. We also need to know what our students know and don’t know about the subject that we will be teaching. “The teacher must take note of what each student does know and does not know and the contexts in which each student can do what is required as well as those in which the student cannot do what’s required. This information can...

...Lesson Plans Creating a lesson plan for a group of Kindergarten students can be very difficult. The activities you choose need to be fun, educational, and engaging as most 5 year olds tend to lose focus easily. Most children love music and dancing, so for this lesson plan I have chosen a dance titled Father Abraham. As you may have noticed I will be developing this lesson for a class of kindergarten student’s. At this stage of development children should be able to make conscious decisions regarding music, art, dance and theater, and respond to them with some form of emotion. They should also be able to notice different sounds, pictures, and movements, as well as notice their similarities. They may even be able to create their own music and dance moves. Lastly they should have fairly good body control, and can work independently (NAEYC, 2004). This class has a total of 10 students and here is a look at the lesson plan: Grade Level: Kindergarten Class Size: 10 Students Student Learning Objective: As result of this lesson, students will . . . • Distinguish left and right • Follow commands on which arm, leg or head to move • March in place • Stay within their personal space State Standard: The North Carolina State Standards we will cover in this activity are, apply competent motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities, understand concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics that apply to the learning and performance...

Main Factors of Lesson Plan Papers

...Main Factors of Lesson Plan Papers Jennifer Mello EDU 311 October 18, 2014 Dawn Childers Main Factors of Lesson Plan Papers When addressing a classroom without goals, objectives, and a clear path is an obvious mistake that any teacher could make. The greatest idea will fall flat without understanding what to consider when lesson planning, and as we know all lessons require knowing how to reach specific students and how to respond to their needs as a student. Outlined in this paper is the Framework for Teaching, Core propositions, comparison of framework and propositions, main factors to consider when lesson planning, and how to identify the difference between goals and objectives, as well as observable and measurable objectives. Charlotte Danielson's Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching (2007), Danielson used the Praxis III assessment and created organized responsibilities for teachers. Within this, there are four domains that were covered in The Framework for Teaching; planning and preparation, classroom environment, instruction and, professional responsibilities. She outlines what each of the four domains is and clearly states the key concept and thesis. In 1987, The National Board of Certified Teachers (NBCTs) created a policy of the vision of accomplished teaching that they had. NBCTs also created The Five Core Propositions to “form the foundation and frame the rich amalgam of knowledge, skills, dispositions, and beliefs.” The Five Core...
