What I would like to ban, to improve life in the 21st Century?
I would love to ban many things in life to make everyone’s life better and safe. Different people would change different things due to their own experience; they will change certain things so that it will benefit themselves and the next generation.
I have several things that I’d like to ban including cigarettes. Cigarettes are dangerous and harmful. They harm the smoker in several ways and the smoker is likely to get lung cancer which may lead killing him. There are more than 2.4 million deaths in the UK annually; over 440,000 are caused by smoking! Smoking is the largest cause of preventable death in the world! Scientists say there are over 4,000 compounds in cigarette smoke and majority of them are toxic - they are bad for us and damage our cells! Some of them cause cancer. Why would you risk your life just for smoke to enter your body? Some people are very narrow minded and will indeed risk their life. That is just plain and utterly stupid, so the government should ban smoking to save those senseless people from themselves. Also another advantage of banning cigarettes is that it will stop people spending lots of money on buying cigarettes as well as saving money for the smokers it will save money for the government because the NHS would not have to treat illnesses caused by smoking.
A further reason why I would ban cigarettes completely is because young people smoke illegally at the moment. Also because a child's body is still growing, teens and youth are vulnerable to its lethal effects. Approximately 1 out of every 3 young people who become regular smokers will die of a smoking related disease. So to ban smoking it would be a vital because it also affects those who do not smoke, passive smoking can damage your body because secondhand smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals.
Additionally, banning alcohol will be beneficial for society. Every year in the UK, roughly 500 thousand people under the age of twenty one die from an alcohol-related incident including car crashes, homicides, and other related injuries. Alcohol is a substance that impairs judgment when consumed and can lead to drinking and driving, unintended sexual activity, violence, or other dangerous behaviours. It also affects the youngsters of the world today. Young people are prone to alcohol and drugs are likely to be addicted when they become adults. There are many reasons why young people are prone to alcohol. These reasons include family history/genetics, environment, psychological issues and their substance of choice.
Another thing that I would ban is reality TV shows. Why on earth would people be interested in people life where they just show off their wealth? Also most reality TV shows give out the wrong message, for example ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ this TV program includes Kim Kardashian who many young girls look up to as a role model. However she was once a no-body, living a normal life just like other normal people until she gained publicity for doing a sex tape with American rapper Ray J. Now she is one of the most popular women in the world. But what for? Empty fame. So what is this TV show trying to prove? That you have to engage in sexual activities with a famous rapper, while being recorded which can be seen by people all around the world? This is absolutely despicable. Would you want your daughter/niece to want to be a person like her? No I didn’t think so.
A further point I’d like to make is that people may want to become as famous as her and may even take her route for the success. Would you want this for these vulnerable kids? No I didn’t think so... so I would love to get rid of these horrible reality TV shows which give out wrong messages to these young vulnerable teenager girls.
Overall, I think many things should be altered in the world at the moment. And, if these things are changed it would be a better world for everybody as well as the next generation, when and if these few point I have mentioned are changed, it will result in a safer and a better world to live in for everybody. Isn’t that the world that we all want to live in?
