Leadership and management is a strong need for any company worldwide to become successful in their categories of business. Although there are vast similarities between the two, there are also some differences that have been known to separate the two completely.
Defining Leadership has been given to us by Merriam as “a position as a leader of a group, organization, etc.” Additionally, Merriam states that leadership is “the time when a person holds the position of a leader” and “the power or ability to lead other people.” This definition allows us to think about the simplistic ways of a supervisor or team lead in which they go about their day in tasking others beneath the. Merriam also defines management as “the act or skill of controlling and making decisions about a business, department, sports team, etc.” If a company hires a manager who has a high level of skill providing production flow and profitability to their company, this will filter down through the ranks and provide those beneath the manager the tools for success.
From personal experience, spending many years both a leadership role and the managerial role has provided a new level of understanding of what responsibilities each one of these positions held for the companies that I was employed with. Many of the leadership roles that were held have been basic led of operations style positions within a scan department for a small company. These general roles involved keeping track of how each project was completed and how mistakes were caught either by myself or those who were under my watch. As a Manager in the same department, my general role was to ensure that each staff member had enough work to do for the day as well as keeping my assistant on track for changes within a specific project, or
