Diotima’s beliefs, however similar to Socrates, has one main difference. Diotima states that Socrates has disregarded love as a God, and though Diotima doesn’t regard love as an exact God but more of a spirit, the point is made that love need not be one thing or the other. Diotima then proceeds to speak of love as a type of rebirth, giving life to beauty. This touches on Diotima's concept of the form of beauty, as we first think of beauty as an attribute of a person or a characteristic of an object. Only later do we begin to love beauty in itself and of itself. T
