This study was conducted by the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, an organization working as an interface between the government, industry, non-governmental organizations and international agencies, to promote employment opportunities for people with disabilities in India. Of the approximately 70 million people with disabilities in India, only about 0.1 million have succeeded in getting employment in the industries till now. The industries can however, play a more emphatic role because of their vast employment generating potential and the financial power.

Economic Effects of Affirmative Action Programs on Organizations
Two categories of organizational performance are reviewed - measures of organizational effectiveness and measures of financial equity.

Organizational Effectiveness - Several studies have examined how affirmative action programs, or lack thereof, influence various measures of organizational effectiveness. In a study of manufacturing firms, Leonard (1984a) it was found that the percentage of disabled (construed as a measure of the success of affirmative action policies) were not associated with measures of manufacturing productivity and …show more content…
