Limitations and Implications for Future Research
Several limitations of this study should be noted. First, the sample size was somewhat small, particularly with respect to analyses pertaining to communication and effort. Although this is understandable given the difficulty of securing cooperation from only Cypress students only, it would be helpful if investigators attempted to obtain larger sample sizes in future studies, and especially more diverse samples that include non students. Larger and more diverse samples would provide an opportunity to conduct more sensitive tests of how well the investment model predicts measure levels of commitment, communication, and intimacy in two groups of participants; those who are single and those who are in a relationship.
Second, because our results are correlational and data were gathered at only one point in time, we cannot make attributions of causality with the two groups of participants; who are single and those that are in a relationship, if the levels of commitment, communication, and intimacy perspectives change over due course of time. Researchers in future studies of commitment and satisfaction in a romantic relationship use the longitudinal designs to follow the two groups of participants to observe developmental changes, thus controlling for cohort effects. Also, in future research, it would be helpful to obtain external corroboration of later levels of commitment and satisfaction of participants through a third person as well. For example, a research study done by Sacher and Fine (1996) used the investment model to predict relationship status and satisfaction among a sample of heterosexual dating couples. Participated couples completed measures of commitment, relationship satisfaction, alternative quality (i.e., perceptions of how easy it would be to do better in another relationship than in the present one),

Blood for Sale

...Blood for Sale: A Discussion from Multiple Ethical Dimensions To make money by selling blood is an issue and discussion for ages. The most vital factor is its ethical implications. When an egoist is asked about this topic, he presents his own valuable ideas. According to the ethical egoist, selling blood is not at all unethical. He presents a strong notion that if an action produces positive consequences for the doer, then it must be considered as ethical because it meets his own self-interest (Blackburn, 2003). If a person offers his blood to some patient in return of some money, then it should be important to analyze the type of consequences. The money or other benefits that he gains or achieves, exclusively meet his needs and produces good results for him. Therefore, from the egoist’s point of view, putting someone’s blood for sale is absolutely ethical and it does not violate any moral implication. The basic concept of Utilitarianism is that every action should be guided by a sense of emotion, focusing on the well-being of others. Utilitarian theory tries to ensure that we should act in such a way that would produce the utmost happiness for all from an overall perspective. Every action must be guided by forecasting the consequence of it. Utilitarianism also argues that human beings are primarily rational. Therefore, it is quite obvious that we will act from a rational perspective rather than from an emotional one. This theory is certainly ambiguous to some extent. The...

The Boy Who Could

...thing: a sober discussion of real-world costs. So let’s take a look at the costs and see if this world-shaking, game-changing innovation really makes any sense. Musk said Tesla’s 7 kwh capacity battery would cost $3,000, while the 10 kwh capacity one would be $3,500. (That doesn’t include the cost of a DC-AC inverter – about  $2,000–  plus professional installation.) The implication is that a 10 kwh system could supply 1,000 watts of current to your home for 10 hours. That’s a good amount of energy. The average American home draws an average of 1,200 watts of power around-the-clock, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. For a sense of scale, a desktop computer draws about 100 watts, a big TV 200 watts. Refrigerators cycle on and off, but average about 100 watts. So how much is that battery power going to cost?  Setting aside for a moment the cost of making that electricity in the first place, let’s look at just the cost of using the battery to store it and get it out again. Researcher Winfried Hoffman, the former CTO of Applied Materials , has done some interesting work on the falling costs of battery power. He figures that for a lithium-ion system with an initial installation cost of $400 per kwh capacity, 80% efficiency and ability to run 5,000 cycles, the average cost of stored electricity will be 15 cents per kwh All the breathless coverage of Elon Musk’s Powerwall battery brouhaha last night is missing the most important thing: a sober discussion of real-world costs...
