ACOM 115 ASSIGNMENTS 2 DISCUSSION ESSAY
Topic: Iron deficiency anaemia is a condition which affects many women during pregnancy, in developing countries. Discuss the causes and effects of iron deficiency anaemia on both mother and baby.
Introduction
Anaemia in pregnancy continues to be a major public health problem and it affects more than 56 million women worldwide (Imdad, & Bhutta, 2012). The world health organisation estimates that 58% of pregnant women in developing countries are anaemic. The greatest burden of anaemia is borne by Asia and Africa where it is estimated that 60% and 52% of women, respectively, are anaemic, and between 1% and 5% are severely anaemic (Guidotti, 2000). Multiple factors lead to anaemia in pregnancy, nutritional iron deficiency is the most common cause of anaemia (Guidotti, 2000). Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) is due to insufficient iron, without enough iron, human body can't produce enough haemoglobin, which a substance in red blood cells, so that they cannot carry oxygen to body tissues (Mayo Clinic, 2014). Yong children and pregnant and postpartum women are the most commonly and severely affected because of the high iron demands of infant growth and pregnancy. ...I just recently changed career fields. I chose to pursue an MBA degree to change careers from education to business. I only began working my new job at the beginning of November. However, in the first week we already had a branch meeting where we discussed profits, losses, and other different statistical analysis of the company. This is my first experience in this setting so even if it was just a small look into what is ahead, for me it was exciting and fascinating to see such immediate results of my MBA work being put to use. The company that I currently work for is one that allows for a lot of growth opportunities for their employees. They encourage vision, entrepreneurship, forward thinking, and personal development. I believe that in a few years time I will have great opportunity to move upward and forward in the company, and I know that the knowledge of this class will help me to see the business from different angles. I think that this class will give me an upper hand on some of the other employees as I am going to work extra hard to move up the ladder quickly. Taking this Quantitative Business Analysis class allows me to keep a greater perspective on the big picture and my larger goals. I can function in my current role, but this class has shown me how to look at the company I work for – and strategically plan how to advance. It has highlighted some areas of strength to capitalize on and some areas of weakness to improve. Just this past week we got......

...ENGLISH HANDBOOK -“Welcome to my evil lair…” -Mr. Braiman Brooklyn High School of the Arts www.mrbraiman.com http://handbook.mrbraiman.com “EVIL” Welcome to my evil classroom lair. In order to become full-fledged evil “minions,” you need to read this handbook carefully. It explains everything you need to know. “English,” as you may know, is shorthand for “English Language Arts.” Being that we are in an Arts school, but one where academics must and always do come first, it is important that we approach the subject as what it is: an art form. How does one study the arts? What exactly do we do when we study drawing, sculpture, music, or dance? Well, anyone who has studied the arts will tell you that studying the arts essentially involves two things: • Learning about, and developing an awareness of and appreciation for, existing works of art in that particular form; • Developing the skills and techniques associated with the art form, in order to create our own works. In the case of language arts, much like any other art form, we will be studying existing works of art (i.e., reading books, stories and poems), and developing the skills to produce our own (i.e., writing). That’s what English Language Arts is. We will also be preparing ourselves for New York State’s Regents Comprehensive Examination in English, which we’ll all be taking in June. This two-day, six-hour, four-part exam requires no specific knowledge or content, but it does require the skills to listen, read,...

Essay on Living with Strangers

...Essay “Living with Strangers” Minnesota and New York are two thoroughly diverse cities, but still there are exceptions of this belief - they both, like every other city in the world, have their own tacit norms and proprieties. Cultures and societies have through time build ethics, which people outside the given group or civilization won’t understand. It can be everything from simply greeting each other, from rural Minnesota where “hi” slip of people’s tongues like honey to New York where its normal to live side by side with strangers, and addressing others on the street will make you seem ridiculous. This huge culture gap is what inspired Siri Hustvedt to write her anecdote “Living with Strangers”. The text is an essay, which is characterized by several things. It’s a non-fictional text, which means its about something real, and relates to this in an unbiased way. It is a very subjective style, written from a personal point of view, where the writer used own experience and reflections: “When I moved to New York in 1978, I quickly discovered what it meant to live among hordes of strangers…”. You can tell the text is personal by the fact that “I” is used a lot. The way of writing will seem very convincing to the ready. Hustvedt uses the ethos argument and therefore seems truthful and upstanding as a writer about this particular topic. The title represents the main topic quite well, as it refers to a very common paradox in urban societies - we have been to the moon...

...Essay writing (Assignment writing) Examples from Deakin University (Some editing – WHJ – April 2013) What makes a good essay? These are the views of one lecturer on good essays. “Follow these relatively simple rules and a student will produce a good essay” The student does the following: * Answers the question set by the lecturer. * Develops the argument logically, so that one point follows from another coherently. The essay should hold together and be consistent. * Indicates the evidence on which the argument and individual points are based and acknowledge the sources of information. Paraphrase and summarise the writers mentioned – do not just use direct quotes. * Keeps to the word limits and other directions set by the lecturer and is as concise as possible. * Avoids irrelevant or extraneous information that detracts from the main argument. * Uses words that he/she understands and is comfortable with. Some students will have a better command of language and a wider vocabulary than others. However, the important thing is to get the message across clearly * Is sure to edit the work for spelling and typographical mistakes before handing it in. Sloppy work detracts from what might otherwise be a good essay. To summarise, a good essay will: a) develop a logical argument b) be coherent, consistent and concise c) provide evidence d) acknowledge sources e) conform to directions f) use clear......

Gmat Awa Notes

...Up, Up, and AWA: Scoring Well in the Essay Section A five-part GMATTERS series, August 2005  PART ONE: This week we begin a new series on the Analytical Writing Assessment ("AWA") portion of the GMAT, otherwise known as "the essays." Because they do not feed into the overall score out of 800 (they are scored separately, on a scale of 6 points), they are often neglected. They do serve a purpose, though, and you need to take them seriously, even if they do not warrant the bulk of your study time. The essays are the first section of the exam. You have 30 minutes for each of two essays, for a total of one hour before the quantitative section begins. So if you do not write essays during at least one of your practice exams, you will probably find it surprisingly tiring the day of the exam when you have to head into the math section after an hour of writing. First, you should be aware of the two types of essay you will be required to write. One is known as "Analysis of Issue." The other is known as "Analysis of Argument." They demand different approaches and need to be understood in their particularities. Let's talk first about "Analysis of Issue." In "Analysis of Issue", you will given a statement (the "issue"). For example, "Responsibility for preserving the natural environment ultimately belongs to each individual person, not to government." (This is an actual GMAT topic and is property of GMAC which is no way affiliated with Manhattan GMAT.) Your task now is to decide......
