At the age of ten London was selling newspapers to supplement the family income. He labored in canneries, mills, doing laundry and shoveling coal so that he could support his family. Between the laborious chores of earning a living London also had numerous adventures when he tried the other side of the law. The adventures started when he buys himself a small skiff and teaches himself to sail but the pressures of home life take that away from he and he is forced to work at a cannery starting at the tender age of 14. ...A Two Day Adventure Therapy Programme for Disadvantaged Youth For the purpose of this assignment I have chosen to work with disadvantaged or disaffected youth from a programme in Dublin called Bradog Regional Youth Service. There are 10 participants aged between 13-18 years of age of mixed gender and ethnic backgrounds. Participants will take part in an intense two day adventure programme, focusing on developing these individuals with skills that will aid there development. The programme will be facilitated by outdoor adventure instructors and psychologists. The programme will consist of two sessions each day. Through facilitation methods commonly used in adventure therapy the sessions will be reviewed and the relevant learning shall be drawn from the experience. The general cycle of his endless travels seem to incorporate the befalling on a town where he attains an adventure. This adventure leads him in many directions in and away from the town. Each stage of his planned adventure must be followed to some script that he does not have in his possession nor can he control. Each time he tries to move ahead with his own agenda, he is stopped by whatever or whoever is writing the adventure script, whether it be an empty bar room with no inhabitants or an endless maze through the town that always seems to lead to one location. When our traveler completes his assigned adventure, the town releases him with a narrow memory of what has happened and drops him back in the desert on a travel toward the same town in the distance that he seems to think has been part of his past, but is never sure.
