Diversity Leads To Success

Diversity is an aspect of life that is almost inevitable, especially in the workplace it is growing by the numbers as years are going by. As we go on with our daily lives, people of different cultures that differ from what was once considered the typical American lifestyle more and more surround us. There are countless ways that diversity has impacted our lifestyle, by introducing the old lifestyle of living with different foods, music, and social activities that allow us to have an idea to explore how life in other countries live. Businesses are also noticing the necessity and the importance of diversity. Many have already started investing in diversity and inclusion as part of their overall management structures. To continually challenge their practice, organizations are working to make the connection between those principles and their corporate performance (American Progress, 2011). Workplace diversity refers to the variety of differences between people in an organization. That seems pretty simple enough but diversity encompasses race, gender, ethnic group, personality, age, tenure, cognitive style, education, organizational function, education, background and more. Diversity not only involves how people perceive themselves but how they perceive others whom are different than themselves. Those perceptions do affect their interactions with one another, especially in the workplace. For a wide assortment of employees to function effectively as an organization, human resource professionals need to deal effectively with issues such as communication, adaptability and change. Diversity is expected to increase in the next coming years and focusing in these new changes is important for the success of any company. Successful organizations must recognize the need for immediate action and are ready and are willing to spend what needs to be...

Diversity

...Awodipe AMBA 600 How Does Diversity Impact The Workplace? Issues of Diversity are common in small and big corporations in the United States. As defined by Webster dictionary, diversity is “the inclusion of individuals representing more than one national origin, color, religion, socioeconomic stratum, sexual orientation”. Diversity in a workplace is how people perceive themselves and the individuals they work closely with. In turn, that perception good or bad can affect the way employees interact with one another in a workplace. Although diversity in a work place is seen as a good thing, it also poses some difficult challenges for business organizations. In order for an organization to succeed at being diverse, they must first understand the benefits of a diverse work environment, the true meaning of what it is to be diverse, and how to improve diversity in the workplace. When talking about diversity and trying to achieve a diverse work place, it is very important for an organization to understand the benefits of having a diverse work environment. Organizations with a diverse work place have shown to thrive and be more successful than homogeneous groups. I believe the reason for this is due to the different ideas and perspectives each individual in a diverse group brings to the table. According to the article “How Diversity Works” Paul (2014) stated “the benefit of having diversity in a group is the creativity that it brings out of the group. Diversity encourages the members......

Internal and External Factors

...organizations rely on the four functions of management: plan, organize, lead, and control. However, implementing these functions is not easy when other factors come into play. External and internal factors such as, globalization, technology, innovation, diversity and ethics all affect the four functions of management. If an organization wants to be successful they must adapt to these different factors. One company that has been able to do so is Starbucks Corporation. The adaptation and utilization of these many different internal and external factors has helped to make the company very successful. Globalization Globalization is the integration and exchange of worldwide cultures and resources. “Corporations operate worldwide, transcending national borders” (Bateman, & Snell, (2011), pp. 4). Advancement technology has led to advances of transportation and telecommunication, and these advances have led to connections and interactions between people that may not have encountered each other. Globalization has also led to an increase of available resources to companies around the world. When it come to the four functions of management and how globalization affects them, an organization must plan a companies goals and mission according to whether or not they want to globalize, export or import, then they must organize their company and departments to help implement the plan, next they must be able to lead their employees to implement those plans, and then control......

Define single goal for customer and project team to be in sync 2. Understand phase requirements and timelines 3. Diversity in the Workplace

...Running Head: DIVERSITY IN AN AGING WORKFORCE 1 Diversity in an Aging Workforce Patricia Parker Southern New Hampshire University DIVERSITY IN AN AGING WORKFORCE 2 Abstract As American ages, so does its workforce. This means changes in the work place. Diversity has long been a part of the American culture but aging brings a new element to the work environment. This addition to diversity will challenge organizations on how they view their employees and what changes might need to take place to meet these employees' needs. It will also challenge some organizations on new types of discrimination, how to train managers on the benefits of a diverse workforce, and how to build functional work teams with both cultural and age diversity. Organizations will also be challenged to review policies, job descriptions and work practices to ensure that age is not a deterrent to success in the organization. But with these challenges also comes many benefits of an aging workforce. Understanding that older workers are typically dependable, have a broad range of knowledge, and are loyal is of benefit to any employer. In addition, as an organization's customer-base ages, having older workers that understand that customer-base may lead to a needed competitive edge. To be successful in the future, an organization will need to meet the challenges and understand the benefits of an aging workforce by being creative, flexible, and most of all diverse. Diverse leaders can expand knowledge, create new resources, and open doors to partnerships necessary to fulfill an organization’s mission. Recommended strategies for board diversification must be understood in the context of the deeply divided society of the United States. Diversity can affect collaboration in a negative way, if the people involved are unwilling to put aside any of the differences they might have with one another. These differences can be expanded upon to not only include race and gender but to also include religion, culture, age, marital status, educational qualification, and many more. As companies become more globalized we will continue to see an increase in the number of diverse employees as well as the types of diversities within an organization. With this diversity comes some difficulties but the benefits exceed the negative by increasing an organizations competitiveness. This competitive increase is due to the ability of diverse groups to enhance creativity and innovation while making better decisions but only if diversity is properly managed. If organization want to become leaders in their market then effective practices and diversity initiatives must be a cornerstone beginning with Human Resource Departments and expanding though every aspect of the organization.
